Magnolia Bakery - Ice cream lemon Bar
Mile End Manhattan
I just confirm it, I'm all made of stomach. No heart, no lungs...from neck to toe there is nothing else and I just love it! (at Mile End)
Focus on today. Whatever it is that you need to do today to improve as a person, as a runner, as a human-do it. Today is all we have.
It is hard to focus on today, but it is all we really have.
Written by my running coach Benjamin Dicke.
Xi’an famous food NYC - I do not know why I postpone my visit to this place for so long, I have read a lot of good reviews about it and its pretty close to my home.
First, I read that usually it has huge lines...I went on a Sunday around 4:00 pm and I did have to wait for both ordering and receiving my food, but it I did not have more than 6 people ahead of me. The good thing is that due to the waiting I was able to see how they prepare Noodles (hitting in the table the dough, each order at a time). Also, the problem can be finding a place to sit, but I was lucky that day because a family just left their sit when I arrive with my noodles.
Second, they recommend to eat them there so the Noodles still warm and do not get oily. Good advice.
Third, good price and only cash!
I order the No. 4 "stew pork noodles" just bit spicy. The dish was just in point to eat, not extremely hot, just to enjoy them at the moment. I started allocating my pork so every slurp would have noodle and meat, but next time I will not worry about that, there is enough of everything...just mix everything and enjoy. The level of spicy was good to taste the flavor, I can tolerate more and next time probably I would ask for it, but I still thinking about that because I will be mad if I cannot eat that day.
I have such a good experience eating here that I did not mind not having good internet connection on my cellphone, better no interruptions "Me and my food". I have to go back again not only for more noodles but also because I want to try the burger.
PD: Funny detail, well not sure if for everyone, is that the wall have all this evidence of people slurping their noodles.
Los Tacos No 1 (Chelsea market) NYC - It was not in purpose to eat here, but two details made me change my hunger. The former, the big line for ordering compared with the lack of people of the local in front, the latter, the "Trompo" I saw it and I thought that I should definitely have to give them chance.
They have Tacos, Quesadillas and Tostadas, you can choose between beef, chicken, pork and surprisingly Cactus (Is the correct translation? I mean the word "Cactus" is also "Cactus" in spanish, so its correct for "Nopal"?). You can also choose between corn or flour tortilla, my advise ask for the corn one. They made it by hand and that detail made them taste so good.
I enjoy my Nopal (or Cactus) taco and the pork one was good (they did include pineapple) but just good nothing fancy.
The best thing, watch people eating as you would usually eat your tacos in Mexico (NOTE: they do exist restaurants where you can sit, and still being good).
Magnolia Bakery - S’more cupcake (of the month) First, I should clarify. I am not a cupcake fan and would not eat one in normal circumstances, but this time I have to do an exception...I mean S'mores, I love S'mores.
The bread has this unique taste of the cookie, while in the middle of it you can find the chocolate filling, all of this topped with a meringue icing (just as it was a melted marshmallow).
Worth the expereience, just for the S'more thing.
Fogo di Chao NYC - Fogo di Chao in NY restaurant week is the best deal for your money. 25 dollars and you will receive Espadas, Yuca, Polenta multiply by infinity, the bound is your stomach capacity.
It's my first time in a Brazilian restaurant and definitely this was the correct approach to it, the menu included a salad bar (not only vegetables but also beans, rice, cheeses, bacon...) all the meet you can eat and of course dessert.
First thing first, you have to make available for meet. Once you flip the card beside your plate from "Nao abrigado" to "Sim Por Favor" many waiters will start offering a piece of the meet inserted in the "espada". Just fresh cooked meet at the term you desire.
Caution: They served cheese bread at the begging, so you will be tempted to just eat all them as lunch. Just try to leave enough space for food, really what comes deserve it!
The best was the cheese bread, the Picanha, the greasy part is soo tasty and the yuca fries.
Jing Fong NYC - In other words Dim Sum. When my friend text me on Friday to have Dim Sum tomorrow at 11 am, I was expecting to go to a small place and have a large bowl of soup ¡Ignorant me!
My expectations and reality were so different. As we arrive the first thing that surprise me were the two long (very long) electric stairs that we have to take in order to get to the room. Once in the restaurant I could not avoid to compare the room to a big "XV años" event in Mexico (without a dancing floor and a "Quinceañera") full of round table like for about 8 people each, sizes may vary, and girls that are wondering around with cars full of different kind of food. We took a table at the bottom of the room, it had a white tablecloth with a tea pot, plates, sticks, tea cups and a list.
Well at least was Dim Sum a bowl of soup? No, Dim Sum stands for breakfast or brunch in Hong Kong, so actually is the time of the day when everyone get together to have long meals and just talk, read the news paper, etc. While they talk they will usually have small bites of different foods. In our case we had shrimp dumplings, pork buns, chicken feet, Tofu with fish, stomach, beef and vegetables.
Different from chinese restaurants they do have dessert. We order Jin deu (a ball with sesame seed in the outside and red bean in the inside), mango pudding, coconut jello and a layered type of pastry filled with the pulp of a fruit.
Is not a place to go alone or without knowing what to order. The former because you will only eat one or two things, and the important thong is to share, the latter because I will never had found out (or it will had took me a long time) to figure out that you have to take whatever you like from the cars and then a mark will be drawn in your list, in order to charge you at the end. The good thing is that they have these dishes for people who do not know what to order (tourist!!) the bad thing is that you won't be enjoying the best of the restaurant.
Papatzul NYC: Guacamole, Agua de tamarindo, sopes de chorizo, tacos al pastor, tacos taurinos and flan de chocolate con chile.
I really need "tacos al pastor that remind me home".
I came here because my program coordinator is friend of the chef/partner of the restaurant. The best thing was the "chorizo" and the worst was the flan, its good but its not the texture of a real flan. But I will definitely bring here all foreign friends.
Useful hints if you look for real mexican food: the menu could include tacos al pastor with pineapple on the top, something with Oaxaca cheese, chorizo and lacks from the word "burrito". (Note: it does not mean that it will be good).
