âWho needs socialization when you have video games?â

Mika poked her chin in curiosity. Sheâd been talking to Candy for a while, but honestly had no idea what exactly she did as a, urr, competitive gamer. âUm, what are competitions like? Do you just get the highest score orâŠ?â Mika trailed off her words, feeling more and more ignorant by the syllable.
A big grin stretches across her face. She never gets to tell people about her competitions, they always just know. âThat is one sort oâ competition, yes. But then the fun ones are the Tekken and Smash Brothers and Street Fighter competitions where I get ta kick peoplesâs asses. Pokemon too boy those ones are fun too. Fightinâ games like that are the most popular kinds oâ competition games.â Thinks. âArcades also have DDR and shooter game competitions. Sometimes Guitar Hero and Rock Band competitions too, but those are very rare since not a lot of those games can be found in arcades here.â
With each competitive genre Candy mentioned, Mikaâs brain churned around and around and around in her skull. She held both hands on her head as to attempt to stop her head from spinning. âHold up. Hold up. Iâm completely lost. I havenât a clue what any of this is. Um, could you go a bit slower?â Candy surprised Mika with her vast interest in these gaming competitions. Mika smiled, but signs of confusion remained.
âWell of course ya know what it is, I told ya itâs video games. So thatâs all ya gotta know. Any game that can have more than one player and winninâ said games is my specialty.â She tries to slow down. âGames like Super Smash Bros, thatâs a Nintendo game so Iâd hope yaâd know what that is, is in those requirements. DDR also counts, do ya know DDR? Ya canât miss them in arcades itâs spelled out as âDance Dance Revolutionâ and has arrows and shit on it.â
She knew that the bear was serious the moment they got there, but she also knew that unless thereâs a ps*chopathic murderer in their midst, no one would die. But to think heâd go as far as hurting friends and family. Sheâs stunned to be quite honest, staring at the screen playing the clip of her family, the friends that left her behind, and JamieâŠWhat the fuck.
âIS THIS A FUCKINâ JOKE??? IâLL FIGHT MONOBEAR HIMSELF THAT COUNTS AS KILLINâ RIGHT???â
In hindsight, Nashimi supposed that they shouldâve guessed that something like this would happen. It seemed as though Monokumaâs sole purpose in holding the students hostage here was so that they all would commit murder. Since so far no one had done so, he had done something about it. They would never have proposed that he would go about it like this, though.
So, he believed that he could get to them through Momi, hm?
Nearby, their classmateâs outcry shook them from their thoughts. Without thinking on it, they strutted on over and offered her a grim look, their mouth firm and set.
âPlease, takes deep breathes. Calm yourself. Remember that there are rules in the rulebook that specifically state that you cannot harm Monokuma.â
They then smiled at her and patted her on her shoulder before continuing.
âUnless you feel up to tossing your existence into the garbage, we cannot hurt him.â
Huffs, getting that little outburst out helped her a little, but she really does want to fight monobear, though she guesses if she succeeded in keeping him still sheâd have to dismantle him to properly âkillâ him and she doesnât know shit about machines like that. Wouldnât she need tools- what the fuck who is talking to her. She turns to look at the new person.
âYeah and? 'ts not like heâs gonna kill me or anything. Heâs just a fuckinâ bear thatâs half my height I could win a fight against him in less than a minute!" She pulls herself away from him at the pats.
âI didnâ say ya could touch me.â

Mika nodded at Candyâs words. âI get what you mean. They try being too original, and in the end, the movie ends up biting the dust. Kinda happens with a lot of stuff. Like, Iâd read comics a bunch two or three years ago.â Mika paused for a thoughtful moment. She desired days similar to those back then. She honed her skills as an apiarist in the meantime; however, time allotted for leisure of this sort often up until roughly a year ago. âSome were gems, in my opinion, but a majority were choppy, watered-down cliches.â
Comics, thatâs one thing she couldnât necessarily get into. Took time away from gaming and that was the one thing she needed in her life to just get by until meeting her roommate. âGames are like that too sometimes I guess. But as long as there are competitions held for the game Iâll play it.â Shrugs. âEspecially if said competitionâs prizes are money.â Even as little as a 500 yen prize was good enough for her to get into.

She nodded. âThatâs with a lot of movies. The directors try to get really original ideas out there, but most end up being kind of lame and remain pretty cliched, too.â Mika hadnât seen too many older movies, but at the theater a few miles out from her house, her mother and father would watch some of the newer films. The majority of them lacked in acting, but some missed a good story, too. âWhat else, aside horror, have you watched? Any good animations?â
Mika didnât get to see animations often growing up, so she hoped to finally get âcaught upâ in that seen at Hopeâs Peak, assuming sheâd ever go back.
Shrugs. âItâs what makes the real comedies rather than the forced ones, so I ainât complaininâ. Actual comedies are forced, while the good ones are movies that are sâposed ta be different genres, yâknow?â Thinks, she doesnât remember a whole lot of movies she watched before coming here, Jamie took a lot of time off her hands so no time for that. âAnimations? Canât say Ive seen many of those.â

Mika nodded at Candyâs wisdom. She seemed to know a thing or two about drugs and the such. The usage of recreational drugs never appealed to anyone close to her, so Mika did not familiarize herself much with them. Candy made her curious. What life did this gamer live? An enigma for another day, she supposed. Mika tuned into the vague description of the Saw movie. Despite the quick overview, Candy managed a visual explanation descriptive enough to lead Mikaâs mind racing. Mika could not help but concoct different scenarios pertaining to these sorts of traps, curious as to their appearance.
âHa ha. Yeah. Fun stuff.â Both Candyâs phrasing and her own imagination were putting Mika off. What if this is all some elaborate trap? The question raced the track of her mind, relaying continuously around and around. Mika scratched her head to try to ignore the curious itching. âWow. Youâve seen some, uh, gruesome films, havenât you, Candy?â The topic wasnât too different, but it was a start to deviate from this predicament.
Sheâs never really done drugs to be honest, maybe smoked a cigarette once or twice but sheâs never really liked the idea of not being herself. Though her friends enjoyed them. Candy smiled at Mika as the other girl was thinking over the description of the horror movie.
âI guess ya could say that. Canât say I enjoyed a good majority of âem though. Spent a lot oâ time makin fun of the movies after. There are good horror movies then there are horror movies that try waaaay too fuckinâ hard to be scary and they end up beinâ the exact opposite of that.â

A-acid trip!? Mika shivered in fear. âI surely hope we arenât suffering from an acid trip. Doesnât that stuff have a chance of coming back sooner or later?â Mika remembered hearing about acid deposits or the like building up in the spine, possibly being stimulated at later times in oneâs life. She hoped they were suffering from something quite to the contrary of an acid trip.
Her heart sunk even more so when Candy said they were fucked. There wasnât any way of avoiding the feeling, Mika guessed. âNo. I havenât seen that.â Mika had, however, seen Battle Royale. Her father would watch it with her sometimes when he got home from work. The movie hadnât been the best graphically, but in real life standards, it was nothing to joke about. âIf all the bear said is true, then yeah, itâs comparable to Battle Royale.â Mika swallowed a chunk of her hope with saying this. Was all the talk the bear had genuinely true? Was murdering another student the only way to go? Mika didnât want to think of it for long. Her expression formed somewhat of a pout, but more serious than childish. âCan you tell me about that Saw movie?â If itâs similar to the situation, even microscopically, Mika wanted a heads up.
Snorts, letting out a âpsshh,â god this girl knew nothing. âWell of course, drugs that ya never sober up from arenât safe. It takes a few hours or so, I donâ remember since Iâve never done that, but if this surely was all of us trippinâ then weâll sober up within a couple hours.â Waves her hand.
âAh, darn, then itâs not really easy to compare that thenâŠâ She herself always found herself sneaking into movie theaters with her friends, sometiems they did actually buy tickets if they had money, it got cheaper to go when it became jsut herself later on in life but she explicitly remembers seeing one of the Saw movies in theaters. âYeah thereâs just some components missinâ here, but itâs still the same basic concept, yeah?â A smile. Hopefully she can survive this âbattle royaleâ and come out victorious, even if it means murdering. Her smile faded for a second, her mouth hanging open slightly before the smile returns to her lips. âSâabout murder, obviously since I brought it up right? But waaaay worse than ya would imagine, like, the people bein murdered are beinâ tested? And itâs up ta them if they let their trap kill âem or not. There was drowninâ, people beinâ cut in half, all that fun stuff!â

So neither of us can remember past coming to Hopeâs Peak⊠âWere we beat over the head and knocked out?â The consideration was swiftly scrapped considering there werenât any notable wounds or bruises on Mikaâs head. âUmm⊠Or drugged? Damn. This is a mess.â Her thoughts carried on the same path for several moments. The possibility of being drugged was a far cry, but there werenât many other options to consider. The trail of thought brought her back to why she had even confronted Candy in the first place. âHey, Candy. What are your thoughts on the situation. Like, what do you believeâs going on?â
Candy makes a face, scratching at her head. âIf we were beat o'er the head weâd have concussions, yer not feelinâ sick, are ya?â She canât recall the other symptoms of a concussion, but puking is definitely one of them. âDrugged hmmâŠWe could just be sharing an acid trip, though thatâs illegal here ainât it?â Gotta love having friends who somehow smuggle in illegal shit. âI believe that we may be fucked here. âMomo AtatsukiâŠâ Mika pulled out her own ID to glance at Momoâs information before tossing it back in her bag. Candy was pretty interesting, Mika thought. Much less tense than she came off to be. Mika grinned, letting out a short, high pitched chortle. âMy only concern is the heat.â The sun didnât feel too warm, but one could assume it could only pick up from there. Mika started thinking about what time of year it was. The last thing she could remember was walking up to Hopeâs Peak around Fall. A circus could be opened around that time, but it all seems nonsensical none the less. âHey, Candy. Whatâs the last thing you remember before this?â
Is heat bad for bees? Canât you just give bees water wouldnât that be fine. She obviously knows nothing about bees as you can see. She makes a face. She doesnât remember the last thing she saw or did before this. Tries to thinkâŠÂ âIt was spring cause school starts âround that time right? And I was walkinâ ta the school since we live somewhat close ta it, I remember textinâ Jamie askinâ where the fuck he was since he disappeared in the middle of us walkinâ ta the school, then I woke up here. Mika hadnât considered the other students yet. âHmmm⊠Maybe my roommate wouldnât mind if I put my bees in there? Iâll have to see whom they are first, I assume.â Mika stroked her chin while thinking it through. âIâll find something. She shrugs. âWell Iâm not yer roommate so I say do what ya want.â She grabs her ID, flicking to the map of the Inn. âSays hereee that yer roommate is Momo Atatsuki. Mika nodded as thought shortly about this friend. Wow. Living alone in Tokyo, huh? As she pondered this, Mika was caught off guard by this compliment/apology âN-no. Itâs all right. Nothing a shower canât fix.â Mika took note of Candyâs name as well. Sour Candy, yeah? Seems fit for a competitive gamer. Mika hadnât played many video games given rustic lifestyle, but when she went out to the city or to hang out with some friends, she tinkered with a platformer or the such. âIâm an apiarist. I tend to bees and their abodes. They usually donât interact with the people around me. I just keep it on my person in case I find a place to set-up an apiary.â
âHmm, I guess thatâs true.â The smirk remains on her face as she leans forward and makes a bridge with her hands to rest her head on. âHave ya seen where weâre stayinâ yet? âThatâs a nice thought, are ya gonna keep it the entire time yer here?â
âHmm? Well, my unrelenting, cheery optimism has always been a strong point~!â
âHow about you? Do you need someone to hold your hand? Iâm always available for personal comfort~â
