Preliminary list of music & other creations by those lost in the Ghost Ship / Oakland Warehouse Fire
This will be updated, some information still missing. Apologies for those not mentioned. Feel free to get in touch to add anything.
If you want to honor their lives and spread their music, here are the creations of some of those who we have lost. Please share, listen. Music is a powerful force. It can heal the listener and performer, it gives us a reason to keep going in a hopeless and hostile world. It gives those who aren’t accepted by society a way to express themselves to others, a way to sustain themselves, a way to communicate. It allows us to experiment and discover ways of being and perceiving that are near impossible to access otherwise. We need it now more than ever.

"These disparities between how the Malheur occupiers were treated and the Standing Rock protesters were treated is not a result of a “flaw” in the system. If anything, what is being witnessed is that the system is responding so rapidly and so effectively that it can no longer mask its intentions or its contradictions. That exposure is in turn feeding an ever increasing awareness amongst the masses as to how racism and state violence actually function. It’s also exposing the futility of reform. Racism and private property rights are two of the most vital necessities in order for capitalism to function. Whether it’s Black Lives Matter bringing attention to police violence and systemic discrimination, or it’s the Standing Rock protesters bringing attention to illegal takings and the need to protect the commons, the police violence used against them will always be disproportionately severe when compared to those whose grievances and actions, even if illegal, do not challenge the interests or mechanics of capital."

Our magnificent friend Kara Wild, who is currently imprisoned pre-trial in Paris and accused of helping torch a police car during an anti-police demonstration in April, has given us a list of books she’d be overjoyed to receive in the mail. Her supporters have created an amazon wishlist so we can keep track of what folks are sending her. It also includes her mailing address and instructions (e.g. softcover only).
Please send her hella shit! It takes two minutes and it will make her day, and ours too.
For more info on her case, please visit freekarawild.org
