New York’s data center moratorium may become the blueprint for anti-AI movement.

New York became the first state to pause all construction of massive new data centers after Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul announced a one-year moratorium on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The state-wide ban applies to data centers using 50 megawatts or more, officials told Reuters, and it won’t be lifted until the state figures out what “consistent standards” for responsible data center development in New York should look like.

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:

This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.

We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.

you know what you are right. im sorry. it wasn't crickets, it was one post that got a little traction & people in the notes were actively preemptively saying anyone who suggests this could perhaps be an example of transmasc oppression should die.

erasure is an action (to quote @transfemme-turtlebug's tags on this post!) and its something everyone internalizes by virtue of being part of an anti-transmasculine society. but because of the backlash to transandrophobia theory (which tries to describe this), tumblr users now have developed an even more intense internalized erasure, where their first thought when it comes to transmascs being targeted is not, "oh shit, transmascs are vulnerable!" it is "fuck, we NEED to make sure the transandrobros can't use this!"

Wildfires in northern Ontario force First Nations to flee

Several wildfires are forcing members of a number of First Nations to flee their homes in northern Ontario.

“I had time to run home and pack a bag and get to the beach where the boats were waiting,” said a member of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins). “We literally had minutes to get on the boats and flee before it took our town. “Once we left my house finally after packing what I could in a pack sack, the fire was right behind our place. We had to run to the beach and once we got there, it was only moments before the fire had jumped over the (train) track and was coming for us.”
