DIY Hair Masks w/ Essential Oils
Daily life can take a toll on your hair. Dry air, pollutants, UV radiation, and styling can all affect your hair. Sometimes you may deal with health issues like Psoriasis or a very dry scalp amongst other things. These 3 different hair masks infused with essential oils can help you pamper your hair and tackle your hair issues.
Ingredients
For a general Hair Pampering Blend use 2 drops Lavender and 2 drops Rosemary essential oils
For a dry scalp blend use 1 drop of lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil, and Geranium
To help with hair growth use the blend 2 drops Cedarwood, and 2 drops Clary Sage
Instructions
Rest the rim of a small pot or glass cup inside the edge of a larger pot filled halfway with boiling water to act as a double boiler.
Add coconut oil to the glass bowl and warm until liquefied.
Add essential oils to the coconut oil.
Mix the ingredients together. Let cool and slightly thicken.
Put a towel over your shoulders to catch any drips.
Dampen your hair with a spray bottle.
Using your hands, apply the mixture to your hair and gently comb to disperse the mask.
Let the mask sit for 30–60 minutes before rinsing.
Wash and style your hair as usual

What is an endocrine distruptor?
Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife. They can be found in products including plastic bottles, metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, food, toys, cosmetics, and pesticides.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Services supports studies to determine whether exposure to endocrine disruptors may result in human health effects including lowered fertility and an increased incidence of endometriosis and some cancers. Research shows that endocrine disruptors may pose the greatest risk during prenatal and early postnatal development when organ and neural systems are forming. For us mothers or future mothers this is super scary!
The main reason why we do not want to be exposed to these endocrine disruptors is for the simple fact that our endocrine system deals with our hormones which affects literally everything in our body. The endocrine system uses hormone signals to let certain cells in our bodies know what to do. It’s our bodies’ communication system and when that gets messed up we often times see negative health effects. Let’s take care of our bodies and do the things we have control over! Start researching your products ingredients and find healthier alternatives. It will be the best thing you do for your health and your families.

What is mindful eating?
It is the practice of creating an open-minded awareness of how the food we choose to eat affects our body, feelings, and mind. Why should we all practice mindful eating? It helps us to create a better relationship with our food. It helps us to see food for what it is; nourishment for our bodies. Who here has a bad relationship with food? Do you tend to overeat and feel miserable or are you an emotional eater like me? Do you find it hard to overcome cravings for certain foods? So do I. We are not alone in our struggles with food but here are 6 simple ways to practice mindful eating.
1. Listen to your body and stop eating when you’re full.
2. Eat when your body tells you that you are hungry. (stomach growling, low energy)
a. Than choose quality foods like protein sources, greens, fruits, good carbs etc.
3. Eat with others at set times and places.
4. Eat foods that are nutritionally healthy. Look at your food choice and ask yourself, what this particular food or meal is going to DO FOR ME.
5. Do not eat and multitask. Eat and just eat nothing else. You can tend to be distracted and not listen to your body’s signs that you are not hungry anymore.
6. Consider where your food just came from. Was it processed? Did it come from the earth? Sometimes knowing what is in our food helps us to make better choices for our bodies.

Harmful Ingredient Spotlight
Another ingredient spot light for your Monday! SLS and SLES are found mainly in your shampoo, body wash, mascara, acne treatment, and detergents. The purpose of these ingredients is used as a surfactant and foaming agent in your products. These things are not needed. There are plant based alternatives available that work just as well. A lot of people think that bubbles and the foaming you see your products do means it is cleaning well which is further from the truth.
Why should you avoid these ingredients? Some negative health effects include but not limited to:
· Eyes, skin, mouth, and lung irritant
· A possible carcinogen because sodium laurel sulfate produces nitrosamine, a substance linked to cancer formation
· An endocrine disruptor
· Contributes to Neurotoxicity (a biological, chemical, or physical agent that produces an adverse effect on the structure or function of the central and/or peripheral nervous system.) and organ toxicity (overloading our organs with toxins that we cannot get rid of and breakdown which leads to sickness’s/health issues)
· Skin issues like eczema and psoriasis ect.
Look for this also on the ingredients lists: 1,4-dioxane. Let’s know better and do better! I am so thankful every day for this knowledge to pass on to every one of you guys! A great resource to utilize is EWG’s skin deep data base to look up your ingredients in your products and see what you’re using and to help you choose better options!
