CAUGHT STORYTIME

Okay, so I’ve only been lifting for about 3 weeks and I’m a go big or go home kind of person. Every single store I go to I have to lift SOMETHING. So, I started really big, hauls that total no less that $500, from the very beginning.

I went on my 3rd or 4th escapade about a week ago and I took my friend…we’ll call her Jade. First of all, let me just STRESS how big of a MISTAKE that was. Jade was exited to lift with me, but she was a newbie and so ridiculously obvious. At one point in Sephora, she told me she wanted a beauty blender and so I got one for her, but apparently she hadn’t seen me get it so she was following me around with one in her hand murmuring “put this in your bag, put this in your bag.” I actually had to stop and explain to her that I’d already used slight of hand to get her one. And then she’d just go around and pick up stuff she wanted and then hand it to me. I was like GIRL. Just say “I like this” and I’ll get it for you when I come to it, don’t obnoxiously fumble it into my hands.

But I had grace because I knew it was her first time and that she was exited. We didn’t get caught while we were at Sephora, but having her there seriously threw me off. I was nervous and I wasn’t doing all of my usual step.

The nightmare started when we went into PINK. She handed me some socks, which I have no experience lifting (I should’ve just told her no). I did do the smart thing and tell her no when she tried to hand me a cap. So I go into the dressing room with my bag and my method to get rid of the tags goes as such. If I’m in the room with the big couch, I just hide them under the seat cover. If it’s just a normal room, I reach up and hide them on the top of the mirror. I had zero clue what to do with the huge sock package. I panicked and put it in the little tin holder I KNOW IM A MORON and then got out.

I usually like to leave ASAP after I lift from a store, but Jade still wanted to look around (😭😭😭). Then the dressing room attendant came right up to me and was like, “did you leave your scissors in the dressing room?” I just looked at her blankly and took them from her. Then she goes, “and did you take any socks?” I hesitated for a second and then said “nope!” In my cheeriest voice. And she asks I’m I’m sure and I say yes. Then she gives me a stare down before walking away.

I see Jade speed walking from the store and I’m like .-. I got ur socks. And she’s like wow lol I thought they were going to take you away!

Lifters among us, aka how I almost got caught.

I was travelling and decided to go to one of my favorite stores for lifting (ulta) with the intention of trying to get my hands on the new Anastasia highlighter and a few other goodies. I went in and everything seemed fine, I got all the stuff and concealed in a blind spot. Everything seemed normal.

Then an SA came up to me and asked me if I was finding everything okay, I said yes and she hovered, giving me a glare. I felt a little uneasy. She left after about 10 seconds but didn’t stay far away.

Then a second SA came up to me and offered me a basket. I said “no thanks, I don’t have much” She looked at me really intensely and said “take the basket” in a quiet voice, through her teeth in a smile.

I hesitated but took the basket and she said louder “let me know if you need help finding anything!” and walked away. I went to put some stuff I was carrying in the basket when I noticed a piece of receipt paper thrown in the basket, I looked closer at it and scrawled on it was “DITCH!!!”.

I felt my stomach knot and my palms started to sweat, when I dropped the items into the basket I snatched the little paper and crumpled it up, sticking it in my pocket.

I was internally panicking but making sure not to show it. There are several blind spots in this store so every time I passed through one I took out a couple products and stuck them in the bottom of the basket until my bag was empty.

I still wanted the highlighter so I went around putting items back, making it look like I was mulling over it before placing it back on the shelf.

I decided on buying a lip gloss and the highlighter and went to the front. There were several sales associates that seemed out of place just hovering, the girl that gave me the basket was one of them, she still stared at me intensely.

I paid for the merch in cash and didn’t give my name, said thank you and made sure to stay cool and normal the whole time (without forcing it). I took my bag and walked towards the door where a really mean looking lady was standing. Her mouth was contorted into a weird smile/grimace and she was driving daggers into me with her eyes.

As my hand touched the bar on the door to push it open, she put her arm out and pulled it back closed. I basically shit myself at this point but I knew I had nothing at all on me, so I just looked at her and asked her what was wrong.

She looked at me and curtly said “didn’t want the eyeshadow palette? Or the blush? Or the lipsticks?” I said “no, I only came here for the highlighter, thanks.” And pushed on the door again. Yet again she pulled it closed.

She asked me to go to the back room and I said “no thanks, I haven’t done anything.” Then she asks to look in my bag and I tell her “I don’t have to let you do that unless there’s a police officer requesting me to do so with reasonable grounds. Do you want me to call them? Because at this point you’re preventing me from leaving and you’re breaking the law.” I shoulda said violating my rights but whatever.

She tells me they’re already on the way. Cool.

The police arrive and walk up, they quickly chat with the manager and a couple staff members before approaching me and asking me to see in my bag. I oblige and open it up. All I have is my wallet, keys, phone, lip balm and a couple hair elastics. I’m wearing jeans and have very small pockets so they can see nothing is in there.

The cop asks me to wait one more moment and goes back to the employees/manager and I hear a bit of the quick convo including “did you even see her conceal anything?” (The SA that gave me the basket said no and that she didn’t think I took anything, Just following orders), “no she doesn’t have to open her bag for you unless police are here.”, “you can’t detain someone without solid proof or confession.”. Obviously they said it a bit different with proper terminology but that’s the basics of it.

I pretend to be inconvenienced and cross my arms, even though I feel like I’m going into cardiac arrest honestly.

The cops come back over and tell me I’m free to leave, they explain to me what the “misunderstanding” was and that nothing further will happen after I leave.

I thanked them and as I was leaving I shot the manager a dirty look and then caught eyes with the SA that gave me the basket, made sure not to smile or anything just wanted her to hopefully catch my thank you vibe.

If that SA is on liftblr honestly thank you so much I hope nothing happened afterwards and no one saw you do anything other than hand me the basket.

Getting Caught Is Not Inevitable

So many people on here say that every Lifter gets caught. Not true. If you aren’t greedy and you know when to stop, you will not get caught. So many Lifters know their limit and haven’t and will never get caught. Not getting cocky or greedy is the key to success, and don’t let anyone tell you that you will fuck up one day. Play your cards right and that won’t happen.

All these newbies really need to do their research. I myself am pretty new, and we all make mistakes now and then, but this isn’t a game. We can’t really afford to make mistakes, literally. This is a CRIME. This is a LAST RESORT for many of us. I don’t lift because it’s fun, or trendy, or because I’m selfish. I lift because I have bills to pay. I lift because I can’t afford to get the nice clothing I need to get a “proper”, job that isn’t minimum wage. I’m an adult and need to dress better than t shirts and jeans all day every day (my opinion, obviously) if I’m going to be super successful. I need to look the part to be taken seriously. I lift because I’m broke as fuck. And the government is set up to keep poor people poor.

If you’re an asshole enough to post a sign like this, indicating I should feel sorry for YOU, corporate asshole, and place importance on profit and merchandise over human life— I will actually steal from you MORE. Signs like these are far from amusing. They’re barbaric. People actually HAVE been stabbed and beaten, thanks to the power and prevalence of the capitalist ideals that take from the poor to further benefit the rich. Many poor have their hands cut off in developing countries as law and punishment for daring to feed their starving families. This kind of punishment has existed EVERYWHERE in the world and some point or another, in spite of social advancement. It is well known that capitalism is more important than human lives. Profit and corporations, business people, the growth of already established members of society is deemed more important than the mere maintenance and sustenance of the poor.

Every time I see this post, I wait for someone to point out how disgusting it is instead of taking it as a joke, and no one ever does.

In short, it is not a joke. People really do believe what they’re saying. Profit > life.

alright so i am not sure how long this post is going to be because i am honestly not exactly sure where i am going to go with this, but all i know is i have been getting bad vibes from the community as of lately and i need to rant, so prepare yourself i guess haha.

i am concerned about this new wave of “newbie lifters.” i feel as if none of them are really taking in how serious lifting is. lifting is not a trend or a fad, but a serious crime that if you are not careful with will put you in jail. this is not something to be taken kindly. to me it seems like these new people are seeing how the members of this community are taking hundreds of dollars of merchandise with seamlessly no problems, and assume “oh well if they can do it so can i” and are neglecting to acknowledge the fact these people have taken years to hone their skills and that you don’t just wake up one day and say “i am going to go lift $500 worth of make up.” Like nah son, it doesn’t work like that. That is how you get caught. You need to take this slow if you don’t want to end up behind bars, which is what WILL HAPPEN if you do not slow your fucking roll, and take the time to master your skill like all these other people have. it really rubs me the wrong way that everyone is getting these basic ass anons who assume that if they just ask 20 people the same thing then they will automatically be able to lift anything and everything they want.

IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT.

Committing a crime is not something you can learn to do from random blogs on the internet. They do not take into consideration that if you are going to shop lift, you need to plan, plan, plan, and then plan some more.

You need to research like fucking hell. Yes, scroll through blogs, scroll through them all because there are some great tips out there. There are people with tons of experience, whether it be with lifting or as people “on the inside.” But you also have to do research on your own. You should know the laws of lifting like the back of your hand. You should be able to recite them in your sleep. You should be doing fucking field studies. Go to all the Ulta’s in your area and scope out everything. You should know that store as much as the SA’s do. (this is just an example, this applies to every store.) You need to learn to take in all your senses and be so observant it’s scary. Asking blogs all the same question isn’t going to help you. Sure, tips are great. They will help boost your confidence. I know I am the type of person who needs to know every single little detail about something + have every single persons opinion on something before I will begin to think I know anything about that said thing. But the thing is if you are not able to wing yourself off from that and gain confidence from yourself and learn the ways that are best for you, you should not be lifting because you will get caught. 

And also one other thing I want to say is that I know that this whole lifting thing is addicting as hell. Once you start you feel this surge of empowerment and like you can do anything and have anything you want, and it is a great fucking feeling. There is nothing better than stealing $700 worth of stuff and then laying it all out on your bed and looking at all the neat new stuff you have. But let me tell you, this is what is going to get you locked up. You need to realize that yeah, that adrenaline rush is crazy good, but it is not worth your freedom. I am not saying to stop, because tbh I am a selfish piece of trash who does not want to give this up either, and I love everything that comes with lifting, and I am not telling anyone what to do or not do, I just want to give a little warning or something to keep in mind I guess. (I am going off with what I see in the community, if you are lifting out of necessity, this does not apply to you) 

You. Do. Not. NEED. Any. Of. This Stuff. You will get on just fine without having the same shirt in 10 different colors. You do not need a palette that has colors you hate, but grabbed it because you could. You do not need a closet full of clothes you will never wear, or a jewelry box full of accessories you will forget about. DO NOT take something just because you can. Grab only the things that make you feel AMAZING and don’t settle for anything less. LESS IS ALWAYS MORE. Lifting will make you greedy, but ignore that feeling. Stay grounded. Because letting that greed slip through is what is going to fuck ya over.

Okay I am done. I feel like none of that made sense and I sounded like an idiot because there was a lot I wanted to say but didn’t know how to, but man I just needed to get that out. If you read all of that I am so sorry and you deserve a gold metal or something, damn.

A few things to remember

1. At the end of the day corporations are still made up of people. People who have feelings, just like us. yes, they may have insurance, but they still have to PAY for that. You still have to pay for car insurance, but yet when you get in an accident you’re still paying hefty fees (I know first hand). So yes, no matter what you want to think, we are robbing INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE WHEN WE ROB CORPORATIONS. If shoplifting drastically decreased, they wouldn’t have to pay crazy amounts of money for theft insurance. Simple as that.

2. Lifting crazy amounts of stuff from huge corporations isn’t PUTTING THEM OUT OF BUSINESS, OR PUTTING AN END TO CAPITALISM. In fact, it’s keeping them in business. When you steal those 4 naked palettes, and 3 too faced palettes, and a whole liquid lip display, your store is ordering MORE STOCK from the factories where all those items you robbed are made, which is actually increasing the stores DEMAND FOR SUPPLY, not decreasing it, leading to more profit for the organization as a whole. So next time you’re robbing that “shitty” corporation, think about the workers in third-world countries being paid next to nothing who are working tirelessly to compensate for what you have stolen. And guess what, you just robbed another individual who can barely stay awake in that factory.

If you guys want to get technical about robbery, and robbing INDIVIDUALS, were ALL doing it.

PSA FOR STEALING FROM HOMES

I live in a 3 story house , 7 bedroom ,3 bathroom, we have a in ground pool a big backyard and a finished basement. In the south most houses are that size and ours was in the 600’s. It’s not considered a “mansion” but up north or on the west coast it would go for a lot more. My parents are good genuine people . My mom is a nurse (but left for a while ) and my dad is business sales associate that I only see 3 days a week bc he travels and they both voted for Trump. I’m a fucking feminist and ace aro witch is in the LGBTQ+ community and I support Trump (so don’t act like their isn’t diversity ).
