“I confide in everyone. I have no restricted private self, reserved specifically for certain trusted special people. I trust and mistrust anyone. I have traveled a full circle. But this time, on returning to zero again, I am able to act out the mistake more adeptly. I am on my way to becoming a very skilled loser. A specialist, a loser to end all losers. A flair for failing. I do it with style and finesse.” – The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher

“It’s pretty apparent that humor is the diaphanous cover I use to protect myself. When someone creates this superstructure of verbiage and mental activity, it’s obvious she has some discomfort with emotion. Humor has always been my armor, which is kind of fantastic, because I take things very seriously.” – Carrie Fisher
“I always felt as if I were looking out of this enormous melon-shaped head at a world that I couldn’t manage. But whether or not I could manage the world, I could describe it, I could comment on it. I might not be able to escape from reality, but I certainly had something to say about it. I remember writing in my journal when I was working on Star Wars – I was nineteen at the time – ‘I narrate a life I am reluctant to live.’ I’ve always felt that way.”
Marilyn Monroe (ph. Erich Hartmann)

“Every time I was upset or in some kind of vivid state I would sit down and write. It was a great outlet for me. I still have all those journals although they’re not in any special order. It’s hard to explain. I wrote them just for myself but with the idea that if somebody else read them, it might be of some help to them. Some of the journals are just typical teenage stuff, but some of the others have really good material in them. They won’t be published in the near future. My mother has been urging me to put them together and have them published along with some of my poems. Maybe someday when I’m too old to care, I will.” – Carrie Fisher

I don’t want to feel that if I had wanted something more, or had said one other thing, or had worn a different dress, or had been more mysterious, or more open, then I would get something or someone I wouldn’t get otherwise.
