Why make the Darkling possess Yuri when Nikolai was right there?

He already had Aleksander's power in him, shoudn't it be easier for Aleksader to just "join" them, in a way?

Was it because Nikolai was hurting? Or because this way the narrative would have to be arsed with acknowledging the horridity of the whole situation and at least try to deal with it? And because Nikolai couldn't be forgotten and dismissed as easily as Yuri, and Aleksander just slowly dissolving him wouldn't make a satisfying enough ending, so there would had to be a thought put into it, and that means work, and planning, and we know that's not exactly what Bardugo's a fan of?

It's the same reason as him NOT dying during Aleksander's coup. Or his miraculous change back to normal just in time to dress prettily and steal the Crown. Or not being forced to do any hard decisions, deal with serious opposition and get blood on his hands...

I think with Yor being so perceptive, she picks up on little things often (like we saw in ch 103). i believe this would impact loid more so than the usual person, because he is a spy and fakes every part of himself, so to be seen is simultaneously desirable and horrifying. like, it makes him torn between wanting to accept and reciprocate the love, or distancing himself so that it doesn't happen again.

thats mostly what the last panel is about, that dichotomy between 'omg this person noticed this about me, is this love' and 'oh shit this person noticed this about me, is this Doom'
