I am finally reading the Terror and oh boy it already has a hild on my brainnn, summer is the best time for arctic stories, I must finally read Farthest North by Nansen it's been staring at me from the bookshelf for a few years waiting for the right moment
Part 2 of my cold bois (and Silna !) lineup ! Plus all of them because I wanted to put them all neatly like pinned bugs in a frame <3
I also want to say this here because idk where to say it but : my previous Terror art was like, the BEST reception I’ve had on a drawing on this website in maybe years ?? Not talking in term on numbers, but in terms of interactions. I rarely had so much nice comments in the tags about my artstyle or the characters represented. It made me incredibly surprised, happy and motivated ?? So thank you for the amazing welcome Terror fandom, i really really didn’t expected that but you guys seem like an incredible little niche 🥺🫶
“Kindest love to dear Thot” - Francis Crozier, 1844
It has sort of come to my attention that a lot of people in the terror fandom don’t know the extent of the absolute vitriol and hatred that was spewed towards the Inuit at the time contemporary searches were happening, and the serious effect that had on finding anyone alive, and out finding of artifacts even to the present day.
Charles Francis Hall who was one of the first searches to head to the arctic in search of franklins crew in 1859, recorded his anger at the Inuit only supplying the surviving members with seal meat as they walked south, leaving the crews to die and abandoning their please, saying quote “These 4 families could have saved Crozier's life & that of his company had they been so disposed... But no, though noble Crozier pleaded with them, they would not stop even a day to try & catch seals - but early in the morning abandoned what they knew to be a large starving company of white men.”
He failed to mention those four families were on the verge of starving themselves, and had given probably more than they had to share before continuing on.
In 1854 John Rae brought the first reports of cannibalism back to England, it was fiercely rejected and shunned as even being a remote possibility, writers toting that the crewmen would rather starve to death then do such a thing, a thing that we know now occurred as an act of pure desperation, by men who had no other option. This did not stop Charles Dickens from writing this to defame the Inuit, who were the source of the information: “they are covetous, treacherous and cruel.. With a domesticity of blood and blubber'.”
Charles Dickens was world renowned, as was Hall as an explorer, by toting these lies about the Inuit being liars, forging stories to disparage the legacies of the brave white men they had allowed to starve to death, they destroyed the already tenuous trust white searchers had in the indigenous people who only had their best at heart. If they hadn’t done this, and if the men they influenced had taken the Inuit at their word, there is a chance we could have found infinitely more information, remains, and artifacts of the crews during the late nineteenth century.
I cannot possibly understate how the ego of these men destroyed our chances of fully understanding what occurred in the final march south towards backsfish river, but there is a lesson to be learned. There were contemporary reports from Inuit who had gone aboard the still floating terror years after the last of the men died at starvation cove, and they claim that there were multiple men dead aboard the boat. It is worth the effort to believe these accounts and do more dives to the wreck of the terror with the hopes of recovering human remains, rather than leaving them at the bottom of the ocean to be lost along with their stories.
The condition of the Erebus after being sunk since 1848. The terror is equally intact.
in light of the avatar aang movie leak, is the work on seven havens in jeopardy?
totally fine if you cant say, i hope your day is going well and your art goes even better!
Thank you so much! And since we're separate teams, there shouldn't be any direct consequences (hopefully)
But if anyone has watched the leaked version, please do your best to support the actual movie when it comes out! That tells Nick that the IP is still worth the financial hit and it will continue to fund Avatar Studios. Hopefully the talks of it getting a theatrical release are true, which would make it even easier to access for a lot of ppl

Big developments for Cartoon Saloon...
In addition to them getting a new CEO, in THE BREADWINNER producer Anthony Leo... The Irish studio also announced a new film from Tomm Moore, director of their Irish Triptych films THE SECRET OF KELLS, SONG OF THE SEA, and WOLFWALKERS...
KINDRED SPIRITS. The studio now taking on American history, the Old West, and the connection between the Native Americans and Irish refugees, two peoples in need who were actually there for each other. Per Cartoon Brew's coverage of Cartoon Movie: An Irish immigrant girl and a Choctaw boy without their families who travel the land and have "magical encounters" are the leads of the movie, as they are searching for a new family, a new home.
The studio even has an idea of what year it could be released, as said in the preview, 2028. That would place it eight years after Moore's previous film, as the studio took on Nora Twomey's MY FATHER'S DRAGON after WOLFWALKERS, and then a movie based on their PUFFIN ROCK TV series. A picture called JULIAN - based on the children's book JULIAN IS A MERMAID - has also been in the works, which could possibly come out this year. Cartoon Saloon's always at work on something, and last year they released the short EIRU, so they're able to keep making these distinct, thoughtful hand-drawn animated movies that keep vintage traditions alive while marrying them to cool new innovations. (I'm one of those people who really wanted WOLFWALKERS to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature of 2020, which went to SOUL.)
fallout deserves the 24 episode anime treatment with a beach filler episode, side character backstory for 50 minutes that culminate into a plot needed devices later in the season, a tournament arc, big action scene that last 3 episodes, and a mall detour episode for some cute character interactions
to put the show pacing issue in perspective: if vince gilligan worked on fallout s2 there would be a 48-min ep devoted just to norm's struggle to find food + water while stuck in vault 31, ft. arguments w/ brain bud & flashbacks involving failure to live up to his father's expectations, a complicated relationship w/ his overachieving sister, & fleeting memories of his mother cast in a new gruesome light given what he has recently learned. & to be fair most casual viewers would be incensed by this
