Hello Old Friend // Isaac & Peter
âYou mean this is the supposed dangerous one and itâs not even clawing its way up my leg?â Peter quirked an eyebrow, surprised by this kittenâs actions. Instead of laying nails into him, he was actually rubbing kindly against his leg and leaning into the touch that Peter rubbed down his bag and against his tail. Wraith was misjudged as it seemed.
Peter stopped petting the kitten, lifting himself off of the ground and leaning back against the wall, head tilting only slightly so that he could gaze out the window as he listened to Isaac make his case about what had happened a few years ago. By any means, Peter wasnât pissed about the other werewolf not coming back to the pack. Not anymore at least. At first he was assured that something had happened but Isaac would return soon. He had to keep up that sort of strength for Derek, who was on edge about his beta not returning.
But after a while when there was still no sign of him or the humans that he had accompanied, thatâs when panic set in. One of his pack members were gone and hadnât made some kind of an attempt to let them know something was wrong. Not one howl was heard echoing through the woods and town they were stationed at for the time being. And that made Peter - who already had quite the temper as it was - really angry. Because Derek could sense that his beta was not dead.
And the scent that Isaac had carried was strong, although it faded away, especially after a shower of rain that night. They knew he was alive for the time and once they found the remains of the humans? Body parts strung around and blood painting the earth an eerie dark redâŠthey knew something dark had happened and that Isaac had probably made some sort of run for it. Whether he was caught or just kept running? The pack wasnât sure, but they knew their true feelings for either.
After getting over his anger, like right now, Peter realized how much Isaac meant to him and Derek, and to the rest of the pack as well. Standing here now, listening to him explain his actionsâŠPeter actually felt guilty himself for making Isaac feel like he couldnât face them again after the humans had been slaughtered. Were they that intimidating?Â
The sunlight falling through the blinds made Peter blink and he looked back at Isaac, keeping up that sturdy, strong appearance that he rarely faltered. âYou werenât the one that killed them, Isaac. You could have been a victim yourself but you werenât. Werewolf or not, we are all capable of being wounded and dying just like the regular humans out there. We have our weaknesses and weâre not always capable of using our strengths. Sometimes the unexpected happens.â
Fingers spread apart some of the blinds so he could look more outside. He continued to say, âExpect that. We canât control the actions of this world. I donât blame you at all. I canât say I wasnât angry at the time you disappeared and I certainly canât say that I wasnât disappointed. You ran away and left us wondering where the hell you were. Wondering if you were dead or alive some nights. ButâŠâ He let out a sigh, eyes drifting over some humans making their way down the road. âAt the end of the day, you are still part of my pack. Or were.â
He wasnât going to tell Isaac yet about him and Faolan being pack mates just yet. He wanted to see if the younger wolf still had the capability of being part of a pack. Peter assumed maybe that Isaac would agree to be part of his pack. They were once in one together and maybe now that they were together again in Tofte, it was possible for them to pick up where they left off. When he felt the time was right, hoping it was sometime today, he would tell him about the pack. Besides, what was a pack with only two wolves?
Peter let the blinds fall back in place as he stepped away from the window and walked over to Isaac, eyes steady on his the whole time. Hands reached out and clutched down on Isaacâs shoulders. âIt was not your fault that those humans died,â he told him. âNone of usâŠnoneâŠof usâŠ.thought that way.â
Isaac smiled and nodded. "Yea... He's the dangerous one.. About as scary as the dark... He just needs to grow into himself and he'll be ok. But for now, he likes to think that he's Mister Badass." He couldn't keep the smile on his face for long though.Â
He could see the thoughts run over Peter's face and the wolf inside him wanted to cower. He knew that he messed up. Knew that he let his pack down... His Family. And that hurt. But to see it here, on Peter's face? That hurt more than any injury he sustained that fateful night. He watched and listened intently. If there was any one thing that he missed the most when he was gone, it was Peter's calm words. The way the man could make sense out of a senseless situation. The way he could pull Isaac out of his mind with just a few words or a calming touch. Like he was doing now.Â
"I... I can't expect to be forgiven for what I did. I know that I disappointed the pack... Disappointed you. And no matter how many words I try to use to make it go away... I still left. I ran away and turned my back on you all. On my family... My Pack. " Isaac almost wasnt able to get that word out. It was a word that he hadn't used in a while and it felt foreign on his tongue and in his mind. But it was the only word that had made since for a long time right after he ran away. While he sat alone, it was what made him want to turn around. All those nights, cold and without food, it was the steady pulse of home and safety in his mind that kept him from running right back to his alpha. He ran to keep that last memory fresh in his mind. His last unblemished memory of his family. Their smiling faces, the hugs that he got just before he left.... Just nights before he became something he never wanted to be. His pack would never have allowed a murderer in their midst.Â
Isaac felt strong hands on his shoulders and sagged into the touch. It was comfort, home and safety all in one and it made Isaac long for something he hadn't had in a while. He bent his head forward, resting his forehead on the center of Peter's chest. He breathed in the scent of someone that he cared for and smiled. So familiar... He smelled like the woods... and Peter... But also a bit like Derek...  But not Derek himself.... It confused him for a  moment. But then he pushed it away. It didn't matter, not now.
"I know I messed up... But one day... I hope that you can forgive me. Maybe one day. We can be a pack again... just like we used to be."
