— the story so far…(16/06/19)
It seems Rurik has a suitor in Sildar Hallwinter. After quite an awkward but sweet goodbye, the friends head for the core. Lavender makes sure they activate and place an antidote in the Neverwinter core and after this she gives them instructions on how to make the antidote themselves.Â
After they’ve made the trip to Wave Echo Cave, Yakiv spots an orc he recognizes. It turns out this one, Kazik, is his brother in law. The orc is convinced that Artem Naeris is not in fact working to help the orcs, only using them for his own gain. Kazik quickly brings his two sons and a friend, Mira, into the fold and they all decide to help. After some cultural differences in the art of greeting each other, and some quite crude dick jokes exchanged between Bree and Kazik, the orcs return to the cave down below to offer to come with the caravan when they leave that very night.Â
Through the dark the friends follow the thirty or so bugbears that are carrying both Bran and Artem Naeris eastward. When morning comes, the large group make camp by the river an almost immediately Bree’s small bird shows her that Bran is standing outside the tent made for Artem Naeris and that most bugbears are off to bed. Using some clever magics and good hiding, the three friends make it into camp without detection, sneak up on Bran, stun him and tie him up in complete silence, before the escape begins. No one seems to have noticed. Silently they take out two of the lookouts and manage to climb the sand bank but soon they realize they’ve been discovered. Artem Naeris stands behind them with a sly grin and nothing good can come from this. He asks them all if they thought they could escape him without notice and Bree freezes in the spot, her flight instincts telling her to run but she can’t leave. Rurik’s instinct is to protect Barn with her own body and she leaps from her horse, ready to split the Black Spider in two if she has to, or die trying. Elion on the other hand exclaims that they shouldn’t kill the dark elf just yet, he might have information they need and all in all, they’re very torn as to what to do.Â
Arten Naeris offers them a choice, see who Bran picks. They begrudgingly agree and to Artem’s delight, Bran comes to stand by his side. But then he smiles. A wall of water rushes up between the friends and their enemy and all they can do is stand there as Bran and Artem vanish out of sight. Then they realize they might be able to connect with Bran telepathically and grab on to each other, until they see his smiling face in the dark. He tells them to go on without him, that he will hold Artem long enough for them to escape, but Bree loudly refuses and says she’s not leaving without him.Â
“Then I think there’s something I can do” Bran says and asks for all their help. When the water barrier comes down, they all feel how their elemental power grows within them and in one giant light spire, shooting off toward the skies, parting the clouds above, the small army that’s not reached them are obliterated. Left panting on the ground is Elion, Bree, Rurik and Bran with no sight of the Black Spider but happy to be alive.Â
Bran smiles before he passes out and the friends quickly store him on the back of Elion’s horse, before riding off in the direction of Bree’s home village.
