13 and 23 with blake from nhc? thanks
13. “I could kiss you right now!”23. “Just pretend to be my date.”
“Blake, I have a really weird question,” you said, trying to cover up your embarrassment as you took a spot next to him on the couch.
“Anything,” he smiled, looking over at you, giving you his full attention.
“So I kind of told my family and friends that I had a boyfriend because I’m so sick of them constantly trying to set me up with people or ask why I’m single. All was fine but the only issue is now they want to meet this new guy at a family gathering,” you explained quickly, waiting for Blake’s face to completely change, but it stayed the same.
“What are you trying to say?” he asked, raising his eyebrows at you, wanting you to say it out loud.
Typical Blake just wanted to amuse himself even more at your expense.
“Can you just pretend to be my date, please? I really need to bring someone or they’ll know I’m lying and you’re the only person I can think of that won’t make it totally weird,” you pleaded.
“Sure, I’ll be your date,” he shrugged simply.
“Really? That easy?” you asked, leaning back in surprise.
“Why not? Could be fun,” he laughed, reaching over at the bowl of popcorn he had set down in front of him, popping another in his mouth before throwing a few in your direction.
You smoothed out the dress you had bought for the family barbecue at your parents’ house, looking at yourself in the mirror before letting out a sigh. You didn’t know why you lied to them about being in a relationship, but you were so sick of everyone bugging you all the time. All the other girls in your family were in relationships and you were sick of being pestered.
You also felt nervous seeing as you liked Blake as more than just a best friend, and now he was going to pretend to be your boyfriend. You were surprised that he even agreed, but now the thought made you even more nervous.
There was a knock at your door and you fixed your sandals quickly, jogging to the front door and opening it, Blake standing in front of you. He was wearing a button up shirt, his pants rolled up at the ankles, his hair styled perfectly.
“You look lovely,” he smiled. “Babe.”
“Not too shabby yourself,” you laughed, rolling your eyes at the additional ‘babe’ he threw in.
You grabbed your stuff and shut the door behind you, getting into the car to go see your family, the beat of your heart increasing as you got closer.
You got out of the car, walking up to your parents’ house, taking in a deep breath. You felt Blake’s finger slip through yours, squeezing them tightly as he gave you a nod of encouragement.
Your mom opened the door, smiling widely and pulling you into a tight hug, kissing your cheek.
“Is this the new boyfriend?” she asked, looking over at Blake, her smile still lingering.
“Yeah, mom, this is Blake,” you introduced him.
“Nice to meet you,” Blake smiled as he went to shake her hand but was enveloped in a hug instead.
You made your way to the backyard, where the rest of your family was, all eyes boring on you as they saw who this mystery boy finally was. You didn’t understand how Blake was playing it so well, introducing himself to everyone and making small talk.
“Nice looking boy you’ve got there,” your uncle pointed out, shooting you a joking wink that made you shake your head.
You felt the heat rising to your cheeks, knowing that your whole family thought you two were dating. Seeing the way he interacted with your family made you wish you were.
You grabbed your food from the big table on the grass, going to the lawn furniture to sit down, Blake plopping down beside you. He put his hand on your leg, giving it a light squeeze to reassure you again.
Your cousin sat with you, asking you and Blake a bunch of questions about your relationship.
“How did you guys meet?” she asked eagerly.
“She actually lives next door to me,” Blake said, “I spotted her walking down the street every morning and eventually got the courage to speak to her, and the rest is history.”
“That’s so cute!” your cousin squealed before asking more questions.
He told you that he was going to get a drink and asked if you wanted anything. Before walking away, he pressed a kiss to your forehead, selling the boyfriend image to everyone watching.
You watched him walk away, not realizing you were staring.
“You’re in love,” your cousin teased.
“What? No I’m not,” you said, furrowing your eyebrows as you shook your head.
“You totally are,” she repeated. “You should see how you look at him.”
“I don’t look at him any differently than anyone else,” you defended.
“You do,” she laughed. “Don’t worry, he looks at you the same way. He loves you.”
You couldn’t help but smile, and when you realized, you wanted to wipe it off your face. You knew that you had to play an act, though, so you continued to smile. Did Blake actually look at you like you were anything special? You couldn’t imagine it.
The day went on and you were playing it off perfectly. None of your family questioned your relationship, they just embraced Blake with open arms. He had asked to see your old room, and you brought him up, laughing at the memories that flooded in as you walked into the room.
“I love it,” Blake laughed, a smile lingering on his face as he listened to you happily talk about all the good moments of your childhood.
“I could kiss you right now,” Blake blurted out, holding his breath when he realized he had said a thought out loud.
“Blake, no one’s nearby you don’t have to pretend right now,” you laughed, walking out of the room and dragging him behind you.
He wished that he had pulled you back and kissed you, but he couldn’t bring himself to. You just wanted him to play an act, so that’s what it seemed like. How could you know he meant it?
Your family had always been into music, so when everyone had eaten, music was blasting in the backyard, everyone up and dancing. When a slow song came on, everyone grabbed their partners, laughing at how it looked like they were at a wedding.
“May I have this dance?” Blake asked, both of you laughing as you took his hand, wrapping your arms around him.
“Your family is fun,” he said while looking around. “I like them.”
“They like you,” you replied.
“You know what I said to you before in your room?” he asked.
“What?” you asked, not remembering as you didn’t take what he had said seriously.
“About how I could kiss you,” he muttered. You nodded in response, looking up at him slightly confused, but also intrigued.
“Well that wasn’t me pretending,” he said honestly.
“Blake, you-” you began, but your words stopped when his hand cupped your cheek, leaning down to attach his lips to yours.
You were taken aback by it all, not expecting a fake date to turn into Blake confessing his feelings for you, but you weren’t mad.
Cheers gathered around you as your family watched you guys kiss.
“That’s the moment we’ve been waiting for,” your aunt cheered. “Look at those love birds.”
