Washing after work - Johann Coenraad Hermann Heijenbrock
Dutch,1871-1948
Pastel on paper , 48 x 32 cm.
The Dutch painter Heijenbrock had a rare gift for seeing the quiet dignity in working lives, and this piece is a perfect example of that gaze. No heroics, no romantic gloss — just a man washing the day from his skin after long hours of labour. A moment usually hidden from view, yet here rendered with a tenderness that restores its humanity.
