“I want to talk about what happened without mentioning how much it hurt. There has to be a way. To care for the wounds without reopening them. To name the pain without inviting it back into me.”
— Lora Mathis
The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
I Thessalonians 5:24
“Half of me is filled with bursting words and half of me is painfully shy. I crave solitude yet also crave people. I want to pour life and love into everything yet also nurture my self-care and go gently. I want to live within the rush of primal, intuitive decision, yet also wish to sit and contemplate. This is the messiness of life- that we all carry multitudes, so must sit with the shifts. We are complicated creatures, and ultimately, the balance comes from this understanding. Be water. Flowing, flexible and soft. Subtly powerful and open. Wild and serene. Able to accept all changes, yet still led by the pull of steady tides.” // Victoria Erickson
sometimes you think you are done healing, done remembering, done being held back by past hurts. and then all of the sudden you find yourself still struggling to make eye contact with someone they are being kind to you. or you find yourself unable to speak out of the fear of being seen by someone standing in front of you.
do not stay in that fear. do not settle into it and make a home there. acknowledge it, understand it, and then work towards the eye contact. work towards accepting the kindness of others. work towards being more vulnerable and honest with your words.
there is more, there is better, and you are worth both.
ah man, so true.

To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily. To not dare is to lose oneself.

“You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one.
Henry David Thoreau (via yesdarlingido)
Poetry is how you’ll never forget the small joys someone gave you. Poetry is loving someone’s smile when they don’t believe they’re attractive, or don’t like the color of their hair. Poetry is the pain you tuck away under your skin because just because it’s killing you doesn’t mean it should be seen. Poetry is the way you want to cry because you feel related to. Poetry is having a place to go to feel heard. Poetry is having a heart so full and a smile so genuine that people see nothing else in you. Poetry is blind. Poetry is the way you want to photograph someone doing something basic how they always do, just so you can capture the sight, then stopping yourself. Poetry is looking forward to seeing someone.

I am not an open book. The hardness of my cover and the complexity of my contents were not designed for weak fingertips and feeble minds. I have been opened once or twice. My spine stroked by flimsy hands, held with a broken focus, my pages slightly skimmed through, only to be put down mid-sentence. I have yet be placed in the gentle care of a reader that doesn’t mind that my chapters are often cut short, my edges sharp and my pages loose; one with the intent to finish. As I accept my place on the shelf, I no longer ache to be taken down, opened up and validated by the comfort of fleeting eyes. I have begun to find solace in my own story, comfort in between the lines and a curious fascination for the pages still blank. I no longer worry if my analogies are beautiful enough for Pulitzer Prizes and Nobel awards. I only pray that one day, my sentences will leave traces of ink on the heart strong enough to comprehend them and I am no longer taken out of context. I have always had an affinity for words but I did not know true love until I read my own.

I got my heart broken and I survived, I failed 3 courses in university and graduated, I got rejected in the very first job I applied for and got promoted yesterday, I went through hard times with my family but then two years later, we laughed our hearts out over lunch, The closest friends disappointed me several times but I made new friends and loved them with all my heart. I did it once, I can do it again.
“Prayer does not offer us a less busy life, but a less busy heart.”
Paul Miller
