You guys, I really need your help. My very dear friend just came out to her parents. They’re deeply religious, and long story short, convinced she’s going to hell, blah blah blah.

Anyway, my friend goes to a private, out-of-state university on the West Coast. Her mother, convinced that the school has corrupted her, is refusing to complete the financial aid paperwork she needs in order to be able to afford continuing her education there.

Her mom’s goal is to force her to go to a state school near home, where she can keep a close eye on her. This a really toxic environment for my friend, as her mother is incredibly emotionally manipulative and basically behaves like she owns her daughter.

My question is, are there any organizations or groups out there who could help my friend figure out how to get financial aid without her parents’ involvement? Kids, unfortunately, get kicked out, cut off, and disowned fairly regularly for this sort of thing, I figure there must be somebody out there who has experience with this sort of thing.

If you need more info, please ask privately, I don’t want to release a lot of information publicly and risk outing my friend to anyone who may know me in real life.
