Hello friends, I am Yasmin from northern Gaza Strip. I am 27 years old, a mother of two children, Sila and Youssef, and I have been married for more than 7 years.
I was studying Journalism and Media at the University College, and I had both a home and a job. But because of the war, I lost my home, my work, and everything I owned.
My family’s house was also destroyed, and now we have nothing left except a worn-out tent whose torn walls cannot protect us from the heat of summer or the cold of winter.
My husband is injured. He was involved in a traffic accident while trying to get aid, and he is now disabled and unable to work.
My children have suffered from malnutrition due to the lack of food and proper nutrition.
That is why I am only asking for your help and support. I am here trying to save what is left of my children’s lives. They are between life and death.
Please, try to support us and donate whatever you can.
Please try to donate to this poor family, it’s truly heartbreaking what’s happening in the world right now and it should never be ignored. If you cannot donate then try to get attention to this family so that others who can donate will see this.

Jungwon is late.
He has never been late in his life, not even once. Contrary to popular belief, Jungwon genuinely cares about school, his grades and his performance. In fact, he cares about everything that matters to him, like any normal person. Perhaps, though, he cares too much about his date with you that he spends a good thirty minutes overthinking after class, and when his deskmate nudges him, asking if he’s heading back, only then does Jungwon remember.
He told you 2pm, it is currently 2:28pm. He is so screwed. Even though he has been deluding himself into thinking you have some kind of interest in him, Jungwon knows better. Just like what Jake, Heeseung, and Riki have been telling him, you’re only doing this for the toaster that Jungwon agreed to give you. He has no problem with it, honestly. He doesn’t eat bread often, and honestly, he’s fine with untoasted bread (sometimes). Keeping it in his dorm only takes up unnecessary space. Plus, it keeps Riki away. However, this date is for him to seize his chance to actually get to know you.
Sure, Jungwon admits he falls easily. He's always been easily swayed by girls he meets, often thinking they’re the one just because of some silly coincidence. In his opinion, though, he has changed a lot for the better. Thanks to that one time, he was at the market getting groceries and at that moment, he craved a chocolate bar, so he reached for one. At the same time, as did another girl. From then, he was somehow convinced that they were meant to be, simply because their hands grazed each other’s. Her name was Mai, he recalls.
For a week, Jungwon kept going back to the same mart, and he would see her everyday. Yet, each time he tried to make a move, Mai seemed to scurry away, as if busy. So when his friends eventually got tired of his yapping and whining, they decided to pay the mart (read: Mai) a visit. They thought, you know, perhaps Jungwon’s chances were just unlucky, and if they could help wingman him to shut him up for a bit, why not?
Turns out, Mai was an employee at the mart. She wasn’t buying the chocolate, she was trying to replenish the new stocks. And she wasn’t running away from Jungwon, she was actually busy—working.
Since then, Jungwon has changed his extreme ways (yes, the current him is the toned down version). While he does still “fall in love” easily, he stopped trying for everyone. In fact, you are the first girl he’s spoken to in a few months. A true record, really. Hence, the fear of fumbling is stronger, and yet here he is, showing up to the school gate thirty minutes late, when you already dislike him for “stealing” what was yours in the first place.
Anxious, Jungwon dashes throughout the halls and out the main door, jacket flinging and backpack shaking uncomfortably on his right shoulder. He won’t be surprised if you’re already gone, you didn’t even want to come on this date in the first place… He supposes, maybe it’s okay, it’s not the first time a girl doesn’t reciprocate his interest and he gets attached easily, he’s used to it. It's all—
“Oh.”
At his voice, your head snaps up towards him, and Jungwon’s backpack flops to the ground with a heavy thud. You’re so… pretty. He knew you were a girl and well, he didn’t know how you looked but Jungwon would never judge anyone based on looks. He just didn’t expect you to be so breathtaking and so… his type.
“H-Hi. You’re… Homer.” His voice cracks embarrassingly loud, and he realises he didn’t even call you the right name. Why did he call you Homer? At that, you frown, brows etched deep in the middle as you cross your arms in annoyance, backing off from the wall you were leaning against.
“You. Jungwon, right? You’re late, you know that? Thirty minutes late.” You grumble, clearly irritated by the waste of time. Hurriedly, Jungwon flushes, flinging his arms around as he apologizes, “I’m so sorry! I-I was um, caught up with work and I just lost track of time! I'm sorry… Homer.” Ah, he does it again.
Your eyes narrow as you hiss, “my name is Y/N, not Homer.”
“Right. Y/N. Sorry, h-habit.”
You don’t reply, only huffing as you look away. Awkward and nervous, Jungwon clears his throat, picking his bag back up and slipping it on properly. He only realises now how sloppy he looks as he pulls his jacket to straighten it and adjusts his tie. He scratches his head, taking a small step towards you as he mumbles. “Um, but thanks for waiting. I… thought you would have left if you even waited five minutes.” He jokes with a stiff chuckle.
“I would have. But you owe me something, remember?”
“O-Oh. Right, the toaster.” He replies, trying to not sound disappointed. “Um, yeah, okay. Well, shall we go, then?”
~
“A… bakery?” You utter out, stunned.
“Okay, I know it’s not much, but they sell the best pastries ever. and well, you love bread so i figured you would enjoy the ones here." Jungwon explains anxiously, opening the door for you, eliciting a ring. You thank him with a mumble, because as much as you don’t like this guy, your parents did teach you manners. “Believe me. they have really good french toasts and—”
“Jungwon!” A voice exclaims..
Behind the counter, an elderly woman stands with a hunched back, widely opened arms and a warm smile. Her lips stretch from corner to corner, eyes wrinkling and dimples popping as she greets the boy beside you. You see him in her, or more like her in him when you look over at Jungwon, who is now grinning from ear to ear. He approaches the lady, as he chimes happily. “Grandma!”
You glance behind you, where the signage of the shop sits above the entrance of the door. ‘Yang Bakery’ is its name. It doesn’t take a genius to put the puzzle together, that this is Jungwon’s family-owned bakery. He took you to his family’s shop. You can’t tell if he genuinely has an ulterior motive or not. To bring you to meet his grandmother on your first, not-real, date, is absolute insanity. There is no way he brought you here without trying to trap you into dating him, making use of introducing you to his family. Perhaps, you should make a run for it. He can keep the toaster, for all you care.
Your eyes wander to the exit, mind operating like clockwork as Jungwon begins stepping back into his spot beside you. “Grandma, this is Y/N. She’s my…”
Oh no. He’s going to say you’re his girlfriend, and then his grandmother will think you’re soulmates and force you into a teen marriage, and then you’ll be married before you can even graduate high school and—
“—friend from school.” Jungwon finalizes, lips slanted awkwardly on his face.
Wait, what?
“Ah! So, she hangs out with Jaeyunnie and your other friends?” Mrs. Yang hums cheerfully, walking towards you. “Welcome! Jungwon loves bringing his friends here!”
Taken aback, you grow speechless, because you really didn’t expect Jungwon to label you as anything other than his fucking soulmate with the number of times he’s tried to plant that in your head. “Uh, I— yeah,” you breathe out finally, “I’m not really close with… Jaeyunnie? But um, yeah, I’m a friend of Jungwon’s… I think.” You whisper the last part to yourself. And who even is ‘Jaeyunnie’?
“No, Grandma, she doesn’t hang with Jaeyun and the rest. She’s a new friend I made.” Jungwon tells the woman. Then, he nudges your elbow with his, leaning closer to softly say, “Jaeyunnie is Jake, by the way. My grandma doesn’t use westernized names.”
Oh. Jake. That’s the Left Testicle guy, if you recall right.
“Grandma, do you have the specials today? Y/N really loves bread, so I brought her here to try your exclusive menu.” Jungwon giggles, boba eyes twinkling as he exchanges words with his grandmother. She laughs, pinching his cheeks, nodding as she tells him to follow her into the kitchen. She tells you to take a seat, and that she’ll bring out drinks for you in a bit.
It’s a little strange for you. You aren’t sure if you can do this alone, honestly, and you can’t believe you’re thinking this, but you really rather Jungwon choose a seat for the both of you to settle down. You’re about to tell him that you can just wait around or help them, but the boy simply turns to you with a gentle smile.
“Just take a seat by the back there, I’ll help my grandma bring out stuff for us. Don’t worry, my grandmother loves all my friends.” He reassures you softly, demeanour completely different from his online persona. Perhaps the past few days of texts from him had made you see him in a certain light, which was the annoying freak who wouldn’t forget about your silly one-time-only Halloween costume. And really, who could blame you for being irritated?
Wordlessly, you nod, choosing a booth near the end corner, where a bunch of fairy lights hang and polaroids clipped onto the strings. You peek at a few of it. Some are of his grandmother and customers whom you assume are regulars and have built some kind of bond with her. Some are of her and a few other elderly women her age, whom you assume are her friends. Then, a few clipped by the sides are ones of Jungwon and his friends (the Penis Trio, is what you call them), seated at the exact booth you’re in. They’re all wide grins and small laughs, arms around each other and pastries shoved in their mouths. In some photographs, Mrs. Yang joins the group of boys, a joyful expression plastered on her face as she’s surrounded by the rather rowdy boys behind her. It’s clear that these people are of major importance to Jungwon and Mrs. Yang. The dates written on each polaroid is evidence that these boys have been friends for a long time, and have been in Jungwon’s life, and hence Mrs. Yang’s, for almost half his life and some of hers.
Your eyes drift to the polaroids right smack in the center, where you spot Mrs. Yang and a little boy, possibly around the age of nine, tucked side by side. She looks way younger than she does right now, lacks wrinkles on her forehead, hair a blackish-brown colour, and posture straighter. Her arms hug the young boy with fresh baby cheeks, usual large eyes crinkled in its corners as deep dimples etch itself into his face with a wide grin. They both look awfully alike, it’s adoring. The next photo is another similar one, but this time, Jungwon has grown taller, and Mrs. Yang is no longer crouched beside him, simply standing at his side with a slight bend in her knees as she hugs him affectionately. The series of photos go on and on, until one that’s dated just last year, where a grown-up Jungwon, looking rather similar to the current him—chiseled jaw, broad shoulders, sharp nose—has his arms wrapped right around his grandmother, now hunched over with greys in her hair and crinkles in her forehead. He stands taller than her, a vast difference from the very first photo. Despite the evident changes in their physical appearances spread across the years, one thing hasn’t changed—the love and bond they have for one another, written clearly on their faces.
It warms your heart in ways you can’t explain. You might not have the best impression of him, but you can give it to him for being filial.
Jungwon has clearly grown into a man who holds his grandmother close to his heart till this very day, and he obviously has a lot of people who matter most to him by his side, like his trio of friends. It only makes you wonder why he seeks out romantic love so desperately, even if it does seem like a joke to you. Seriously, why does he even like you that much? He barely knows you.
Before you can swallow yourself further into your thoughts, Jungwon reappears with a tray of two drinks and three plates.
“My grandmother might have gone overboard with the food, but if you can’t finish them, you can bring them home for your parents or your friends.” He says, taking a seat across from you after placing the food down. “Would you rather iced americano or the yoghurt smoothie?”
“Oh, uh, either is fine. I don’t have drinks when I eat. Thank you, though.” You reply quietly, unsure of what to really do. Jungwon nods, handing you a fork and the iced americano, signaling for you to dig in. You thank him again, but you don’t make a move to eat despite how good the french toast looks in front of you, because for some reason, the atmosphere is almost suffocating. Why are you even so stiff? This date isn’t even real, for goodness sake.
Sensing your awkwardness, Jungwon clears his throat, beginning to slice the pastries into half. “So,” he begins, a mischievous smile slowly creeping up his face. You eye him suspiciously, hands still resting oddly on the table as he starts to take a bite of the toast. It looks insanely delicious, but you simply can’t bring yourself to eat it until he does, though it doesn’t stop you from almost salivating at the rims of your mouth. From the corner of your eye, you can quite literally see his grandmother watching the both of you from behind the counter. “What’s your ideal type of man?” Jungwon asks, in the midst of reacting at his grandmother’s delicious toast.
At that question, you deadpan. “Really? That’s your first date icebreaker?”
“What? I’m on a date with the love of my life, of course, I need to know what kind of guys you like.” Jungwon argues, not an ounce of embarrassment written on his face. Obviously, Jungwon isn’t all that shameless to really be asking something like that. It’s not exactly his style when he’s on a face-to-face date, but he wants you to be relaxed, to be calm and in place, to be you.
“You would need to actually know me for me to be the love of your life, you know that?”
“No? Love has no limits, and I believe in love at first sight.”
Scoffing, you lean back into your chair, more relaxed than before. “How many girls have you said that to, you freak?”
Jungwon frowns, faux sadness displayed despite his wide brown eyes never dimming. “I’m not a freak.”
“So, you have said it to multiple girls then? You… perv.” You mumble the last part, still rather loud for him to hear.
“I’m not a perv, either!” He whines, fork now settled back onto his own plate.
You can’t help the laugh that bubbles out of your throat as you sit back up, picking up your own fork as you begin to stab at the pastries. God, you can’t believe you’re finally tasting heaven. “Yeah? Then, well, you’re a thief. And you’re still not denying– Oh my God.” You moan in blissfulness the moment your tongue hits a slice of the cinnamon bun coated in sugar. “This is so good!” Before you know it, you’re gulping down your first bite then moving onto the other plates in front of you.
Jungwon, who was about to argue about not being a thief (he can’t argue about telling other girls they’re the love of his life, because he really was in the midst of infatuation then), stops himself at the sight of your content expression. He’s used to your scowls and nonchalance, your usual deadpans and short conversations with him. And even though you have been fairly nice to him since your date started, Jungwon has never seen how happy you looked when you ate your favorite kinds of food. If he thought you were pretty from your Instagram posts—which are thankfully public—and earlier when you smiled (re: scowled) at him when he reached the gate, he thinks you look divine right now.
“Wait, your grandmother is a genius! Does she have magical—” you choke on the almonds from the croissant, prompting Jungwon to reach for the americano. You thank him through tears, which he can’t help laughing at. “It’s not– Jesus, this almond– wow, I think I’m dying,” you exclaim breathlessly, mid harsh coughs.
She’s so cute… and so funny… Jungwon, snap out of it, the love of your life is dying.
Internally hitting himself in the head, the said male reaches across the table to awkwardly soothe your back. He thinks you’re about to smack him away, but he realises you don’t because you’re genuinely trying to catch your breath out here as you thank him again.
“Oh my, what’s going on here? Here, dear, drink some warm water.” Mrs. Yang rushes over to your side immediately, offering a cup. Jungwon retracts his hand right away when she takes over him, this time she gently pats on your back, which seems to help better.
“T-Thank you, Mrs. Yang. I’m so sorry for the trouble.” You reply, smiling kindly.
“Oh don’t be! It’s no trouble. I hope you’re enjoying it,” she giggles, “Shall I bring out some baguettes for you? We specialise in special baguette sandwiches.”
As if a weight has fallen atop your head, you stumble on words to find an excuse.
If there’s one thing you will never accept in your life, it’s baguettes, especially the ends. Say if the world ended and you had only baguettes to eat to survive, you would rather die. You’ll never be caught live and putting that in your mouth.
However, this is Mrs. Yang, an elderly woman who is talented and passionate about pastries. You simply don’t have the heart to reject her. How can you tell her you hate baguettes, no matter what her specialty is?
“Oh! Um, thank you. I don’t– I actually—” In the midst of finding your words, Jungwon’s voice cuts you off.
“Grandma, we have enough food right now, maybe later?” He chimes in with a sweet smile, to which Mrs. Yang only nods at, humming an ‘mmkay’ patting both your shoulders before sauntering off. He doesn’t forget to thank her.
You turn back to him, brows raised. “How can you reject her like that? She’s so sweet!”
The boy laughs. “I didn’t reject her, I mean it. We have three plates of pastries right now, that much carbs are more than enough.”
Unconvinced, you retort. “You don’t know that. I have a huge appetite, especially for bread, in case you forgot.”
“I didn’t forget. But, I also know you don’t like baguettes. So,” Jungwon makes a peace sign with both his hands and crosses them over each other as he nods with a cheeky grin, “Hashtag: Say no to baguette ends.” Then, he cringes and flushes down to his neck, laughing at his silly action.
But his words only cause you to cease your teasing. “How do you know that?” You question, brows furrowed.
When he sees you aren’t reacting to his little joke, Jungwon stops laughing out of embarrassment and shrugs like he’s nonchalant. He resumes back to eating. “I asked Sunoo. Well, I mean, he asked Jake, and Jake told me.”
You don’t respond, so he assumes you’re confused about Jake’s identity again.
“Jake is—”
“Left Testicle Guy, I know. I just,” you breathe out, chuckling a little. It’s insane to you how your heart is quite literally pounding and echoing in your ears right now. “I didn’t think you would, I don’t know, ask about what I like.” Your words come out soft, eyes dropping to the food in front of you because for some reason, you can’t meet the ones of the boy across from you. You leave out the fact that you only think so because you don’t think he’s actually taking this seriously—by this, you mean him liking you and asking you out.
Mouth agape, Jungwon lets out an awkward laugh. “Oh,” he says, “uh, I mean I technically didn’t? I just know you like bread and well, I wanted to know more about you, but all Sunoo said was that, so…” Suddenly shy, he lets his eyes glare holes into the pastry he stabs into, slowly lifting it up to his lips to take a bite. “I just want you to feel comfortable and not do something you don’t want to.” He mumbles.
Touched, you nod, clearing your throat as you finally look up at him. “Right. He’s right. But still, uh, thank you. For, I don’t know, trying, I guess?”
When Jungwon glances up, the expression on your face causes him to stop mid-bite. You’re smiling at him—genuinely smiling at him with a shimmer in your eyes that he has never really seen before, not to him at least. His chest flutters, unable to fight the grin creeping up his face. If this isn’t the first sign of you warming up to him, he doesn’t know what is.
“Yeah, sure. Of course,” he replies softly, saying it as if it’s the bare minimum. It is, but you don’t remember the last time someone was truly curious about you, curious enough to try.
You nod, teeth clamping down on your lips to stop yourself from smiling too widely. Perhaps Jungwon isn’t as bad as you think, even if he won’t let go of your coincidentally-matching Halloween costumes. When he calls your name with a gentle tone, you hum in response, usual hardness absent.
“Do you believe in fate?” He asks, serious.
“What?”
“I mean, come on, there’s no way our matching costumes were pure coincidence! It was fate! And—”

“Blimey, how did this even happen?” Enzo Berkshire whispered from the entrance of the Slytherin Common Room, his eyebrows furrowed at the sight across the room.
“I don’t think even they know, mate,” Blaise Zabini said, the stone entrance wall shutting behind where he stood transfixed, his dark-brown eyes locked on the two entangled dozers.
You and Theodore Nott had both skipped out on dinner for the night, opting instead to work on the Potions essay Snape had assigned the pair of you — which you had both conveniently pushed off for weeks, and immediately regretted once you saw the workload that had been assigned.
Your identical copies of Advanced Potion Making lay open on the small table in front of the fireplace, along with twenty other library books you had borrowed; which Madam Pince would have a right fit about if she saw the notes you had sprawled in the margins.
Somehow, the two of you had ended up curled together on one of the leather sofas in the Common Room, your three-foot essay on Golpalott’s Third Law long forgotten.
Theo’s head was dangling off the arm of the sofa, his brunette curls tousled. Your head was resting on his chest, one hand placed over his beating heart. His arms were locked around you, holding you flush against him, your shallow breaths syncing with one another.
“Should we wake them?” Pansy Parkinson asked, her arms crossed as she stared at your sleeping forms.
“Ah, let ‘em rest,” Mattheo Riddle said, taking a swig from a bottle of Butterbeer he had brought back from the Great Hall for Theo. “Theo’s been having a hard time sleeping for days now, anyway.”
Draco Malfoy smirked, watching as Theo instinctively pulled you closer to him as he slept.
“Someone should go find that little blond stepstool who’s always following Potter around with that camera,” he suggested. “This is way too good to pass up.”
