"Yeah, yeah, thatâs right. I killed a few guys because I thought it was best fer our group. Now that someone shows up dead, ya think itâs me? Well fuck off."
"Woah woah..hey. What?! Rewind and and explain for a minute."
"I love you... "
"NoâŠ" She softly whispered with a gentle shake of her head. "You love the idea of me.â She corrected, gazing at him with a beam full of sorrow and slight contempt.
"Wish I knew what to say⊠" There was a hint of desperation in his voice, trying so damn hard to find the words in the back of his mind. Even if the words came to him, would he be able to say them? And to her, right now, in this moment? "⊠wish I could make it better for you." But who was this someone he reminded her ofâŠÂ ?
She smiled lightly, for once, she actually smiled. Was he actually trying? Had that meant that he actually cared for her? "I guess that is just how the world works sometimes." She whispered. Without another thought she took a gentle step forward and wrapped her arms delicately around him, resting her head against his shoulder. It would be the way he held her that would determine if indeed his words were reality or if he were foolishly acting out in selfishness again.
Rick paused a moment, allowing himself to hold the woman silently in his arms for what felt like forever. It was nice, the two of them having a moment like that. Usually the two would either be working, or wouldnât see each other at all throughout the day, unless she was checking up on him that is. His heart nearly skipped a beat hearing Lilly utter those words as he stared back down into her eyes. He never thought he would be feeling these sort of things again since his wife had passed, but meeting Lilly was what had brought what was left of his old self back. Rickâs eyes flickered towards the ground and he bit his lip nervously, his heart thumping louder with each beat.Â
âI love you too.â
She pressed her lips to his collarbone, innocently gawking back at him, a smooth grin forming its way across her dimpled lips. Loss. Utter loss. They'd both experienced it first hand, the searing pain severing all hope they had in humanity, or seemingly so. But if ever he had created any image in her memory it was the true personification of that hope come to light. She could feel his heart thumping in the bed of his chest but she did not dare move, nor tell him. She had only prayed he felt somewhat similar. And as those three precious words came pouring delicate from his lips she couldn't help but blush, resting her temple against his shoulder as she ran her finger delicately down his jawline. "I was hoping you would say that." She bit her bottom lip, sheepishly smiling like a little high school girl. She swayed back and forth within his embrace for a bit, relishing in the moment before she pulled back a bit, gingerly intertwining her fingertips with his.Â
Rick frowned and slowly brought the woman into a hug, allowing her to rest her chin on his shoulder. ââYou okay?â
As his embrace met her, she gasped slightly. Closing her eyes tight, she rested the bed of her temple against his shoulder. She listened to his voice, feeling the vibration of it against her skin before she nodded, taking in the feeling of being wrapped up in his arms. They lived and functioned in a world where there was no certainty, where everything could fall apart at the drop of a hat...she worried. She always worried. She had seen her walls crumble before and she was partially awaiting for when it would happen all over again. She drew her gaze upward, meeting his cerulean sea, drowning within his eyes.Â
"I love you." She whispered, hoping, only slightly, that he wouldn't hear her inaudible intonation.Â
{From Lily, lillian-caul} "I miss you."
âI..I miss you too, Lilly.â
"Well, that is slightly soothing to hear."
"I love you... "
"NoâŠ" She softly whispered with a gentle shake of her head. "You love the idea of me.â She corrected, gazing at him with a beam full of sorrow and slight contempt.
Well, the truth couldnât be denied. And he did nothing to protest her claim. It was evident in his eyes but she didnât need to look that deep to see it.
"â-How do you know me so well?
She looked back at him, a light sparkle in her concerned jaded gaze. Biting her bottom lip she shrugged, taking a deep breath as she raised her brows and searched for an answer to his soft inquisition. "I guess you just remind me of someone I once knew."Â
"I love you... "
"NoâŠ" She softly whispered with a gentle shake of her head. "You love the idea of me.â She corrected, gazing at him with a beam full of sorrow and slight contempt.
Rickâs grin beamed as he stared into her glimmering eyes. This was the first time in a long time he truly felt relaxed, or at least the closest you could get nowadays in this new world. So far tonight was going good, and he was happy with just that.
He allowed Lilly to guide him away from the door to a spot where they could dance, still able to hear the music slightly in the distance. Rick took the lead, placing his hands on her hips to guide their steps. His heart was now beating even more loudly in his chest as the two began to dance. But seeing how comfortable she was, made him feel more comfortable.
As the slow song began, the two slowed down their movements in harmony with the music. âHey." His grin remained as he spoke and his eyes still gazed into hers. "You enjoyinâ this?"
Her laughter sweetly resonated into the night air as she gingerly ran her fingertips along the back of his neck whilst he lead them in their dance. She had to compose herself, keep from making a joke about his little fit of awkward laughter, even if she did find it completely adorable, as well as from being a complete loon in front of him. She had quite the sense of humor when she was enabled to delight in it. He brought out the better parts of her, the parts she kept contained, bottled up. She smiled all the time. A hell of a lot more when he was around. His presence alone was illuminating and even though they had only been there for about fifteen, twenty minutes tops, she was having the time of her life...because she was with him. Canting her head, she raised her brows, simply nodding at his inquisition. "Do you even need to ask?" She beamed before pursing her lips together and shrugging playfully. Finally, as the music slowed further, there was a pause in track. All they could hear were the crickets chirping, the sweet soft music of the wind caressing their ears, running through her chestnut curls. She took a step forward and pressed her lips upon his without any further hesitation.
Rick couldnât help himself for the way he was feeling tonight. His heart pounded loudly in his chest. Was he really this nervous? It had been ages since he felt this way, wondering if it was supposed to be right. He stared at her curiously for a moment, awaiting her question in silence.
"Of course you mayâ" He replied, his grin widening as he hadnât expected that to be what she was going to ask.Â
Reaching upward she rested her fingertips tenderly along his temple, running them gingerly through his curly hair. She felt so entirely comfortable around him. She could be herself in a different sense, within a way she never had thought was possible in such a harsh reality. But here they were, as dressed up as they could be and she could swear she could hear her heart singing. Pulling him back from the entryway, the music loud enough to be heard slightly muffled through the window, she allowed him to take the lead whilst she took her stance, properly holding onto him, a bright beam about her lips. The more they danced, the more comfortable she grew, until a slow song hit the air. She stepped closer to him, her eyes a daze as she grew in contentment. "Hey, Stranger." She mused, her fingertips strumming along the back of his neck delicately.Â
It's never easy, but the two are now one. Just look what's been done. Two hearts beat as one.
"Yâdo?" He tilted his head slightly, lifting his eyes to their hands. "What is it?"
She couldn't help but let out a light giggle as she watched his gaze. He was so curious and shy, adorable really, especially for a grown man. Delicately pulling him closer she bridged the gap between them and hummed canting her own head as she relaxed standing in front of him, holding his hand palm to palm. "Rick Grimes, may I have this dance?" She questioned with a dramatically playful flare.
Rick felt his cheeks flush and his eyes flickered towards the ground. âShall we head inside?âÂ
"Okay, but I have to ask you something first." She smiled sheepishly, taking a gentle hold of his hand.Â
you've been lonely. we've been lonely for too long.
"Oh come on, Merle ainât so bad." Rick smiled, giving her a wink.
"Maybe so." She ruminated with a vexing grin in return. "But, he's not you."
ââCourse I will.â Rick replied with a lit-up grin, taking her arm into his own. âAnd might I say youâre lookinâ rather beautiful tonight.â
"You clean up pretty well yourself Mr. Grimes." She mused, resting a soft kiss upon his cheek. "I'm glad I landed you for my date, otherwise, I think I may have gotten stuck with Merle..." She scrunched her nose playfully.

"Same goes tâyou." He teased back.Â
Beaming brightly she twirled about in her black gown and hummed, feeling similar to a fairy princess. "So, are you going to be a perfect gentleman and escort me inside?"
