âthat is exactly whatâs iâm telling you.â trent laughed with his response even though at times he did regret all the little things he missed, all the things he hadnât been able to really fully experience as a father. seeing lilyâs tears when she sat up and peered at him, he moved a hand to her cheek and wiped away a few strays she had missed as he shook his head. âlisten, it doesnât matter what they all say at the end of the day, right? weâve got tessa and i hope you know you really have done a damn good job with her, clearly better than any parenting from the people who raised everyone hiding behind social media accounts or expensive college journalism degrees going to waste. i know you didnât sign on for any of it or sign yourself up to be a punching bag from people who might never even meet me let alone ever actually have a chance at any of their deluded little self-inserted fan-fic fantasies come to life but you also could have made my life an utter living hell by slamming me with every tweet, instagram and snapchat post but i think for the most part youâve kept how shit i can be out of the publicâs eye because i know thereâs times i really truly could have been doing better and it really speaks for who you are and just..makes me glad that if iâm going to have a kid with anybody, it ended up being someone like you. i know tessa will make it out okay in the end because sheâs got you guiding her and teaching her that just because daddy said to help him break the guitar doesnât mean she should break everything and stand on coffee tables yelling with her shirt off.â okay, he wasnât THAT bad of an influence but he did love getting tessa hyper and off the walls crazy. âalsoâŠif you ever do want to get back into it and find yourself hitting walls or anything you could just let me know. i can pull some strings, get you back on the track to the top. you havenât lost it, youâre still beautiful, youâre in great shape - once your foot is back in the door you wouldnât need a lick of help from anybody.â
Lily couldnât help but smile, even as the tears were freely flowing down her cheeks now. She really wasnât much of a crier, but this was a bit of a special situation - she was tired, vulnerable considering the situation that they were in, and hearing everything that sheâd ever wanted to hear from Trent but never had before. Sure, she already tried to tell most of it to herself on a near daily basis, but hearing Trent, the man that had been her opposition for their daughterâs entire existence, was much different. âHey, sometimes those self-inserted fan fictions fantasies can come true,â she laughed, but already sheâd said far too much. Besides, it wasnât like her wildest dreams had panned out the way she had hope when she was a teenager. Still, she was living the life that most of his fans could only dream of living, but none of them knew just how hard it could be. âEven when it was taking every ounce of my willpower not to strangle you, I didnât want to badmouth you to everyone else. Just my mom, and occasionally a friend if they cared to listen. I wasnât going to ruin the career that you had worked so hard for, even if I really wanted to sometimes, to knock you down a peg or two or twenty,â she said. She couldnât have done it, but what would it have accomplished? It could have pushed him further away from Tessa, or even made him take her away from Lily. She wasnât going to let that backfire again more than everything else already had. âIâm not ready for work quite yet. Tessa is still so young, and I donât want her to deal with both parents traveling and being on the road, and sheâs still a bit too young for me to feel comfortable bringing her everywhere with me. But eventually I will, and I know I have you and my mom to help me when I do,â Lily smiled, rubbing at her eyes once again. She never thought sheâd be able to rely on Trent for something like this, never.
