Final

The first movement that I incorporated into my piece is futurism. I used inspiration from the futurism movement to draw my background. Since futurism pieces are super high energy, I wanted to incorporate different colors (green, purple, blue). Also, there is no pattern with the colors. Instead, they were drawn in randomly to fully capture the chaotic feel that futurism brings.

The next movement that I incorporated into my piece is surrealism. Surrealism is quirky, weird, and fun. Surrealists often use objects that contrast each other, so I thought it would be fun to paste human features on a clock and add a cowboy hat on top. Furthermore, pieces of art in the surrealist are often symbols to represent different things. By pasting a face on a clock, it can represent the human obsession with time and how time dictates our lives.

The last movement that I incorporated into my artwork is abstract expressionism. A main characteristic of abstract impressionism is the "All-Over Composition," meaning that artwork does not need to be confined into specific shapes. To add to the background, I cut and drew out a bunch of unique shapes of different colors from magazines and construction paper.

Final

In my background, I used acrylic paint to blend a few warm-toned colors to create a base. Then, using cool tones, I splattered different splotches of color all over the canvas. This idea was inspired by our work covering Formal Elements at the beginning of the semester.

As for the focal point of the piece, I looked back into the Arte Povera work I completed. After finding a funky outfit in my magazine, I cut out an image of a bear to add a satirical aspect to the canvas. Also, I included phrases like "Parties close way too early in America" and "art project," similar to what I did in my Arte Povera collage.

When looking through my magazines, I found some abstract pieces that complemented my background well, like the money. These elements reminded me of my Abstract Expressionism artwork, which has a similar aspect of "randomness."

This was a fun way to tie together my artwork from this semester!

Final Project

For my final, I decided to recreate a photo I took of my dog. The first movement I used in this painting was Post-Impressionism. I used thin brush strokes, painting what I could see but not making it perfect. I was playful with my style, using the brush strokes to create depth and shape.

I also used Fauvism in this work. I was inspired by this movement, I really liked the idea of using alternate, bright colors. I chose some warm, brighter colors than he really is. I used the colors to make darker/brighter areas of his coat stand out even more than what it appears in the photo. I used light blue for some of his white hair, it's something that stands out on him because his usual breed is spotty white/brown/black, and he's just straight brown except for a few spots so it stands out to me and I wanted to express that.

The last movement I incorporated into this piece was abstract expressionism. I thought it would be a fun way to completely rework this photo to an art piece. I took some inspiration from Barnett Newman's style of vertical stripes/"zips". I put down some unique brush strokes, dashes, and splatters as well where I felt they would add some feeling and depth for the background.

Final

For my artwork I made a background using paint on a canvas. I was inspired by the cubism unit when creating the background. I used familiar shapes like circles, squares, triangles etc and then also incorporated made up abstract shapes in all different colors.

In the next part of this artwork, I was inspired by the unit on abstract expressionism. I wanted to use a different medium so instead of paint I used a fine point marker for this step. I made abstract shapes and lines to add to the canvas. After finishing with the marker, I went back to paint and used the technique of splattering. The last material I used for this part was sticker gems to add to the abstract of the piece.

In the last part of my piece, I created a character inspired by my work from the surrealism movement. This character is similar to that of Frank from this unit. I used paint to create him and marker to add his facial features.

DADA Movement

I created my puppet using a toilet paper roll and a purple sock. I put holes in the sock and toilet paper roll to insert arms made out of straws. I think used bracelet string to give him his hair and mouth. Lastly i used buttons for his eyes. I made him mobile using cord that is attached around his arms and secured to his back. My puppets name is Tub and he enjoys concerts and good hygiene. His favorite color is blue and he just got divorced.

Earth Art

For this assignment, I used flowers I received as my natural element. When creating my background, I used the usual acrylic watercolor and added hydrangea petals to create imprints, almost like stickers. Then, I used the leaves from that flower and Mod Podge to paste them onto my background. After that, I incorporated some other flower petals for some color. This was a fun way to preserve one of my bouquets!

Futurism

I chose to use the phrase “never connected” for my artwork. This is because although people are constantly posting life updates and personal information to social media, there is still a loss of connection in face to face human contact. This generation has become so used to receiving updates through media content that real life social interactions have become less common. So eventho we may be connected online, this results in a loss of connections in person.
