It was infuriating to have to listen to the students rage on about Azkaban, Death Eaters, the Wizarding War. He wanted nothing more than to break away from it all, stories his father had once told filling his mind as he slammed his hands on the table, gathering the attention of half the Great Hall, before rising to his feet and sulking out the doors. âDamn it.â Cassian hissed under his breath, eyes darting around for someplace he could gather himself. It was then that the prefects bathroom came to view, the one he knew everyone would avoid due to Myrtle. Within seconds he had rushed inside, heading straight to the sink and splashing water on his face. âCome on, Cassian. Get it together.â
@lilyflcwer
she could still hear the words. theyâll come for you first, theyâd told her. youâre harry potterâs daughter, after all. it was then that she felt overcome with a strange feeling of FOREBODING, fear making her heart go cold. she had to get away from everything â all the voices, all the noise. TERROR filled every inch of her body, even as she ran through the corridors to somewhere safe. safe? from what? she didnât want people to see her like that. so vulnerable, so terrified. like a child who cried for her mother. lily wanted nothing more in that moment than to be reunited with ginny, for her to hold her between her arms and keep her safe from EVERY harm. instead, she found herself standing in the prefectsâ bathroom, trying to calm her breath. tears welled in her eyes, but then a familiar voice reached her ears and by SHEER force of will, she managed to keep her composure. â are you all right? â she asked softly as she stepped closer to the figure by the sink and searched for its face through the BROKEN mirror.
@alicexii â„ this.
â everyoneâs saying theyâll come for us first, â her face was BLEAK, her eyes dull, distant with fear. she was trying so hard. she was trying so hard to be brave ( gryffindors are supposed to be brave, arenât they? ), just like her mother, like her father, and like the rest of her family. but all she wanted was to be safe, safe and away from everything that could harm her and threaten everything she held DEAR. â theyâre right, you know? they will come for us first. weâre the children of war heroes. â even her voice was different, weakened by fear. but there was a hint of certainty in it, like she was convinced they were heading towards a doomed path to never come back again.

   â well.. then maybe your friend is better off without me, â james said. there was a little bit of honesty in his tone. truth be told, despite the arrogance he tried to show, the eldest potter had actually always lacked the confidence that typically ran in the potter family. there were times when he thought that alice would be better off with someone else. maybe, that was why he tended to self-sabotage when it came to their relationship. he sighed, â and i am sure that it isnât going to be the last. â
â why do you act like such a tosser? i know you care about her, â she wanted to reach him, to break through the ice walls of his arrogance. â if you know youâre going to hurt her, you might as well just let her go. for real, this time. sheâs so beautiful, and cool, â she said, with just a hint of admiration in her voice. â and iâm sure she can easily find someone that doesnât treat her like dirt. â
ofslythcrin:
He watched the whirlwind of emotions shift her features, almost as if she too was feeling an odd sense of magic in the air. When her hand finally reached up to grasp his own he held it out gracefully, thinking back to all those lessons he was taught before he hit the age of eleven, the ones he believed to be useless. âYou wanted to be a princess.â Was all he said before leading her back towards the ballroom. Even without his identity known it seemed his presence seeped with enough authority that each masked figure moved to the side as he lead her down the stairs and to the center of the floor. The hand which had been holding hers shifted to grasp it in a formal style, a gloved hand moving to her waist as he pulled her body closer to his. As if the moment was planned from the beginning the music began to echo out once again, a slow song that he wasnât familiar with ringing out. âIs this what you had in mind?â
she let herself be led back to the great hall, a little too PLEASED with how the masked figures seemed to be drawn away from them as if they were the two most important people there. lily stared around the room in amazement ââ everything was just like sheâd imagined. in that moment, as he took a gloved hand to her waist and pulled her close, she felt just like the princess sheâd always wanted to be. it seemed too good to be true, and she was beginning to wonder if this wasnât just part of a dream. but as he spoke, and she started moving slowly and gracefully to the song, a CHARMED smile graced her lips. â almost, â she jested, the utter DELIGHT she was feeling visible in every feature, her chestnut eyes still holding his. they were beautiful and vaguely familiar, and she started to contemplate the idea that she might have seen those eyes before. who they belonged to, however, lily could not say.Â
alicexii:
âsomething always happens with your brother,â alice sighed and forced a smile nonetheless, âbut donât worry your pretty little head over it. we can handle things on our own.â alice had always hated involving lily in her relationship drama, but it was hard not to when it was with her brother and she was like a sister. their stupid fights that lead to a break were a dime a dozen these days and she wasnât sure how much longer it could last. âi donât want to hear another peep about it from you tonight, alright?â the blonde squeezed her arm gently and smiled once more at lily. âso, is there anyone youâve already talked to besides me that is a possibility?â
she wanted to ask her what was it this time, what had her fool of a brother done, but said not a word. not because she didnât care; she did, perhaps too much. it was the crestfallen look on her friendâs face that made her fell silent with guilt. she was right. it made no sense any more to talk about it. this night was meant to be one to REMEMBER, it was a time for joy and dancing and to leave all problems behind. a gentle smile graced her thin lips as she heard aliceâs words. â not really. not that i donât want to, itâs just that some masks are kind of intimidating, â she laughed. â besides ââ how do i know that iâm not dancing with one of the weird kids ?! â
leiaclearwater:
Leia had fully suspected that she would be a pauper in a sea of princesses and she hadnât at all been wrong. Her dress was extremely simple. It had been a pale gold in color, the cut and style not nearly so grandiose as any of the other ladies in the room. What did make it stand out was the enchantment she had cast on it. As she moved and twirled so too did the light reflecting off her skirts. When she danced she appeared a dimmed ray of sunshine. âYesâ she said happily, stunned that someone in such a gorgeous shade of lilac was complimenting her, âMy goodness, youâre lovelyâ
â oh, thank you, â she answered, wholeheartedly delighted with the compliment sheâd been expecting until now. she had put so much thought in her robes, in her hair, in her accessories even, that even the slightest of compliments felt like a retribution for her hard work. â itâs just that iâve been waiting this night since like forever. â

ofslythcrin:
A soft laugh tumbled from his lips at the mention of the mask, ârepresents my soul apparently.â The charm was ridiculous, in his opinion, though he couldnât help but be a bit curious as to why his mask was designed in such a way. It was almost frightening, though there was an elegant beauty behind the black feathers and gold lining. It was the deep black horns that had struck a cord within him. âYet you seem to be anxious about expressing what you want. Even though there is no way anyone would know who you are under there.â He motioned towards the mask hiding her features. When she finally expressed what it was she truly desired he tilted his head to the side, doing his best to examine her. Had it been expressed on another day, with another face, he may have scoffed. Perhaps he would even make japes at the experience of the female, but it wasnât the case this time. âIs that what you want?â He let out a long sigh before rising to his feet. It was one night. One night to be the single thing another person would need him to be as opposed to the villain he had become in the eyes of many. A gloved hand reached out towards her, âcome then.â
she noticed he was studying her face, SCRUTINIZING her features, as if trying to get past the magic of the mask and discover her true self. it made her cheeks pink with a soft flush, but it didnât matter, for he had no clue whatsoever of who really hid behind it. she felt different, somehow; as if a wellspring of courage had emerged from the depths of her being. his honest words should have afflicted her, but in that moment, it mattered not. anxious or not, sheâd had the BRAVERY to say things she wouldnât dare say in any other occasion. but this wasnât any occasion. her eyes followed him as he rose, and her brows furrowed in puzzlement as she watched the hand he was now offering her. she was confused, to say the least. the boy had taken a completely different attitude in a matter of seconds. she fell silent for a brief moment, trying to comprehend what had changed within him. but a bright smile had already flowered in her face, and she took the hand all the same.  â and where are you taking me, if i may ask? â she asked at last, teasingly.
ofslythcrin:
There seemed to be a gleam in his eye when she had taken a seat next to him. He wasnât a complete bore, he could easily admire another student, they all just bored him too much to acknowledge any further. âWhat would you have me do?â He asked, brow raising behind the mask. âWaltz into the ball and sweep a young woman off her feet? Give her a night worthy of a princess?â He gave a low chuckle before shaking his head. âBecause I quite like who I am under this mask. People have judged me since their first year and it hasnât once stopped me.â
lily fell silent. there wasnât a way she could understand why he despised the thought so much. everything heâd just said as a mockery was EVERYTHING she truly wanted to get out of this night. she couldnât possibly understand, but she made herself smile as she spoke to the stranger. â a very nice mask, by the way, â she said, pointing at the horned thing. â and iâm not telling you to do any of those things. iâm telling you you should do things youâd never do as yourself. there must be something. anything. â she paused, wondering if what sheâd say next would DISGUST him so badly. lily would always say the things people wanted to hear, and it TERRIFIED her the idea of displeasing someone. but then again she reminded herself that tonight, she wasnât lily luna potter. â you ask me⊠i donât want much. perhaps a young man to sweep me off my feet, to give me a night worthy of a princess. is that so terrible? â lily spoke softly, honestly, with her eyes glimmering slightly as they searched for his.
wotcherpvtter:
  â now i wouldnât say that, â he responded with a shrug of his shoulders, â you could have easily been one of our many cousins. â honestly, the gryffindor had actually been speaking about something else entirely. his mind wandering to how masks couldnât hide who people actually were underneath. personalities would show, given time. but, he is AMUSED that his sister revealed herself to him and was about to tease her on her inability to be covert. however, he didnât get the chance before she spoke again, immediately ( and unsurprisingly ) tossing accusations his way. he gave a sigh, â iâm sure that alice will be fine. and why must you automatically assume that i did something? â
lily listened to his words with her brows drawn together in a line of pure annoyance. merlin. james was as good a brother as he was ARROGANT, and the way he spoke to her pretending he didnât know what was going on with alice made her want to slap him. but that wasnât something sheâd do, not even when her brother was being such a dick. â because, in case you havenât noticed, youâre an arse, â she began. â i love you, but itâs true, â she said before he had the chance to interrupt her. â and besides, it wouldnât be the first time youâre the cause of her misery. â
alicexii:
âthe last thing i need is a crown on my head,â the blonde laughed and shook her head. and truthfully the last thing lily needed as well, but would she ever admit it? no. âiâm sure we can find you a prince no problem,â she announced, linking their arms together and preparing to parade her around the dance floor. âme on the other hand, i still donât know if i want to see my prince tonight. but then again he might not even know itâs me.â lily was probably the only other person she could be honest about james with and have on her side in the fight. though they were never terrible fights it still hurt each and every time. âbut tonightâs mission is to find your prince charming, okay? where should we start?â
â did something happened with my brother? â she asked with a puzzled look on her face as they began walking side by side around the great hall. if james did something to alice⊠it hadnât always been like this. in the beginning, lily was CHARMED with the idea of her beloved brother and her friend together ââ she still was, in a way. but she was starting to get used to seeing alice cry because of him and she HATED it. she hated it because she loved her and hated to see her sad, and because she loved her brother dearly and hated to see that side of him. love wasnât supposed to be like that. love was supposed to be easy and pure and beautiful. if they were to find her prince tonight, she hoped for him to be as gallant as a prince is supposed to be, and for him to never make her cry. â hm⊠i donât know, to be honest. thereâs so much to choose from! â
wotcherpvtter:
  james lifted the drink that he had just swiped from the refreshments table to his lips as he observed the flurry of activity in front of him. it was an interesting concept, to say the least. and maybe, mcgonagall had the right idea in it in order to bring about some unity. but, the eldest potter could be quite the CYNIC when he wanted to be. which meant that the thought that was currently running through his head didnât take too long to slip past his lips, unfiltered. â guess that this idea could work, â he spoke, â but, then again, there is only so much that their concealment charm can hide. â
â itâs the hair, right? â she inquired, exasperated, as she turned to meet her brotherâs gaze. it was his voice that gave him away, rather than anything else ââ now his face seemed as familiar as ever. â alice was right ââ i shouldâve worn a wig. oh, by the way, how are things with her going? she seemed kind of down when i last saw her. i swear if you did ANYTHING to her⊠â
