Trans! Fingon Headcanons

Because it’s pride month and I’m trans and Fingon is absolutely my comfort/self project character

Finno was really feminine as a child (I mean he literally braided his hair with golden ribbons) so it took him a bit to figure out his gender

The first person he comes out to is Maedhros, and he’s super supportive. He gets him a binder that Curufin helped make and begins to practice using he/him for Fingon right away

Aredhel is really supportive too, also cause now she can brag about how she’s the only daughter Ñolofinwë has. She helps get him some new masc clothes since she presents masc and androgynous a lot of the time.

Argon and Turgon are super supportive, and they are thrilled to now have an oldest brother in the family. They practice sword fighting with him and help him do voice training.

Fingolfin and Anairë also accept their son unconditionally, although it’s a bit hard for them to adjust to his new pronouns. They do their best though, and eventually they never misgenders him again.

All of his other cousins are also supportive, especially Finarfin’s kids. Finrod helps talk him through his dysphoria and Galadriel uses some of the magic Malian taught her to help him change his appearance.

Since Fingon is said to be the father of Gil-Galad, I headcanon that he gave birth to him since he still had an uterus and the capability to get pregnant.

After giving birth to Gil and nursing him, Finno finally gets top surgery, but doesn’t medically transition any other way. He doesn’t have that much dysphoria and everyone around him sees him for who he is.

When he becomes high king he obviously becomes the first trans high king of the Noldor, but no one really notices/minds it. They just see him as male, cause he IS male.

This is a week to appreciate all of the incredible characters and relationships within Tolkien’s legendarium that fall under the broad category of “gen”. Gen content is often less visible because of the shipping-focused nature of fandom, but Tolkien’s works are full of other kinds of stories, and this week is an effort to give them the appreciation they deserve.

The first Tolkien Gen Week ran from January 14-20, 2018 and was rebooted in 2020 in the week of July 6-12. We are back again for a third time from July 5-11, 2021!

Any content and creations are welcome as long as it is non-romantic and non-sexual! You can create edits, gifs, fanart, fanfic, fanmixes, and more! Please tag your posts with #tolkiengenweek AND @ mention this blog @tolkiengenweek so they can be easily found. If your submission turns into a long post, please put what you can beneath a “Keep reading” divider.
