That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they're not much to look at, or even if they're sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can.
The Catcher In The Rye
My heart has never felt so strong, my soul such peace, or mind so clear.
Putting this here so I can always remember what it feels like.
Write love letters to people who can’t love you back. Tell them how wonderful they are even though they will never hold you. Tell them you think they are beautiful and kind and magical—a fucking living, breathing, Unicorn that you will never get to have and that’s ok. Tell them that you wish your body could be their bed at night and your heart could be where they rest their head. Tell them that you dream about them at night and that in another world the two of you are being better people for each other while naked and pressed into each other, big spoon holding the little spoon. Write love letters to people who will never trace the slope of your neck with their tongue; never smell the sweat on the backs of your thighs, never rub your palm with the side of their thumb. Learn to give your love without expectation. Learn to break your own heart without any sign it will ever heal. Learn to walk away from someone you want—someone you think you need—and finally accept the fact that they will never be someone you will ever get to have.

Comfort
Madalyn has a security blanket. It's small and soft and has a tiny stuffed teddy bear head in the center. Last night she was teething and extra fussy, so she was squeezing that blanket, and sucking on her pacifier, and nuzzling her face in my chest...and I was holding her, rocking, gently caressing her, and in soft whispers telling her she's ok, how much I love her, and that she's beautiful. It was during this ritual I reflected on how we are born with the instinct to sooth ourselves and our people. I thought about my own super soft blankets that I insist travel with me, the 5 pillows I surround myself with before sleep, my favorite pajamas, candles, hot bathes, chamomile tea, books, the view from my balcony of lights reflecting off the water, my hopes, and my dreams, and how I use these things everyday to soothe myself. Because that's all I have. I've done a really good job of surrounding myself with tranquility, but it sure would be sweet to roll over and wiggle my way into some long strong loving arms on a lazy Sunday morning.
They say how you spend New Years Eve is how you will spend the rest of the year. Fan-fucking-tastic.
