MERIS has a keen ear for designing pedals aimed at both guitarists and people who work primarily with electronics, especially those with an experimental bent. I recently acquired the company's ENZO and OTTOBIT pedals and configured them into a chain that gets it initial cues from my ROLAND TR-08 drum machine. I'm delighted with the combined possibilities here (various types of modulation, envelopes, bit-reduction, controlled stuttering, sequencing, filtering, etc.). Well built, nicely designed, and overflowing with utility!
I finally found just the right frame for this portrait of our “esteemed president”.

Today is the 31st of March and marks Transgender Day of Visibility, an international observance to celebrate transgender people around the globe and raise awareness of the challenges we face. It's unfortunate, but necessary that we are self-isolating at this time and not out there showing people who we are! Find other ways to be visible, be it virtual, verbal, or through photographs! Our faces and voices no longer need to shy away from being!

I was looking for a filter to add to one of my effects chains, and the Spanish company BENIDUB has certainly come up with the goods! The FILTRO is a 4-pole analog mono filter that makes for a dynamic performance-oriented approach to sculpting sound. Like many of the best pedals I own this is hardly a stomp box, it's utility being perfect for experimentalists needing a hands-on approach to filtering.
The recently revised and expanded edition of NAN GOLDIN's THE OTHER SIDE (originally a slide show and then a book, 1993) makes this seminal work about a then little known community even better. Like most of Goldin's photo essays there's an autobiographical element at work here (she is bisexual, and has been infatuated with various Trans girls) that adds gravitas and intimacy to the work. Given that AIDS took so many of these girls furnishes this account of just being with even greater sobriety. Perhaps OSCAR WILDE's quote "You are who you pretend to be." may be appropriate here.
On my walks through SoHo during the Eighties ART-RITE was the zine (35 cents to finally 1 dollar, but I don't remember ever paying for it) of choice for those us us who celebrated an underground that was just beginning to rear its ugly, but inviting head! Irreverent, humorous, and expansive in its coverage of conceptual art, new sounds, performance, and painting, it had the feel of NYC in its heady dangerous heyday! This book contains newsprint facsimiles of every issue, including cover art and advertising. A very real shit-encrusted gem from a time we're just beginning to forget.

Some MAILart posted into a kind of oblivion!
I've been listening to GRACE JONES' NIGHTCLUBBING (1981) as of late, and have been quite taken by her stoic NINA SIMONE sprechgesang. The title song nearly outdoes the original IGGY POP/BOWIE version, and the rhythms of SLY and ROBBIE never fail to hypnotize! Plus I simply adore her androgynous looks via the styling/design of JEAN-PAUL GOUDE.
