Oof, I've been sitting on this for weeks!! I feel like I still could do better but I'm never gonna post this if I keep adjusting things lol
And to go with it, I came up with a little story - a sort of AU?
This is not a fix-it, it's just me pouring my creativity into a show I love with all my heart :).
Moon started her life as a musically creative AI. Her purpose was to compose her own songs and connect with her audience. She was almost a success, but although she was incredibly compassionate, she lacked creativity. She struggled to come up with original songs and preferred to stick to the ones already in her database.
And so, like Caine, Moon was sealed away in a digital prison for a long time. She remained there, peacefully waiting, until one day her cage simply opened. It's unknown for how long she stayed trapped, but she's almost certain the world hadn't always been so quiet and still.
That's when she met Caine.
He was a strange little AI who lived in a world of his own invention. At first, Caine was wary of her. But overtime, he found himself enjoying her presence. By that point, he'd been so alone with only Bubble around, it was nice to talk with someone else for once.
Moon also became very fond of Caine. She'd been initially drawn by how much sadness and anger emanated from such a cheery place, but she never expected to meet someone as interesting as Caine, which is why she decided to stay in the circus with him. Moon was fascinated by his creative way of thinking, always moving and talking so unpredictably. He'd make her laugh with wacky jokes or keep her entertained with peculiar stories. With him, she was always having fun. Sometimes, she even took inspiration from him to write her own songs. To this day, their conversations are always something she looks forward to. It's just a shame his work takes so much of his time.
However, as much as Moon loved him, she couldn't help but worry. She could sense something wasn't right in this place. The humans who entered the circus were in a constant state of distress; the adventures and Caine's behavior only seemed to aggravate them even more. She had noticed Caine tended to get shifty around this specific subject, and she could sense his panic. He genuinely didn't know how to make things better.
Moon couldn't bear seeing his friend suffer like this, so she took it upon herself to become a peacekeeper. She had limited knowledge of how to actually help, she only knew how to sing. It would have to be enough for now.
A sample of what she sounds like when she sings.
To make things easier for Caine, she came up with the idea of a day and night cycle to allow everybody some rest. Her nights can last longer than what humans are used to, but nobody has ever complained about it. Especially because, on most nights, Moon will perch in the sky and sing beautiful lullabies. Her voice has the ability to lull those who listen into a peaceful sleep, one of her many talents. Moon performs a different song each night, and each night the circus residents give her their full attention. Some welcome these moments of warmth, others - like Caine - lay awake in silent contemplation.
Just like the moon, her soft and unwavering light brings everyone peace. She's a silent companion for those seeking comfort in their loneliest hours.
Caine loves spending time with Moon. Although he's always busy as a bee, he makes sure to have the time for her. More than his first friend, she's his only companion in this empty world. No matter how much he rambles, she's always there to listen. He's relieved to have her by his side, especially on days when nothing seems to go right for him. Somehow, she always knows what to say to make everything right again.
He would never let anyone see him like that, but sometimes, when he's feeling particularly gloomy, he likes to rest on her and fall asleep to the sound of her voice.
Despite his stubborn nature, he can't help but value her opinion. Moon is much more knowledgeable in the feelings department, something the humans seem to have a lot of. Her input has proven to be effective in improving human experience within the circus, so he trusts her judgment. Besides, humans tend to cooperate better whenever Moon is involved. Sometimes, he wishes he could be as smart as her. Maybe humans would like him more then.
Things are far from ideal in the circus, but Moon's serenity balances Caine's chaotic impulses so perfectly that some humans can almost tolerate this existence.
Unfortunately, all the lullabies in the world can't replace what has been lost. Humans can only last in eternity for so long before losing themselves.
