Biography:

Born the middle child in the Jimenez family, Lina was actually cursed with the middle child syndrome. She wasn't a bad kid, but she also didn't stand out when it came to anything either. Due to her dad being in the military, she moved around a lot. Her studies never suffered, but she learned how to blend in and go unnoticed. Though she was good at school, she had no clue what she wanted to do with her life. She knew that she didnt want to follow in her brother and fathers footsteps and join the military,  but she also didnt want to waste time going to college if she couldnt decide on a degree.  When she was 16, Lina was in a car accident with her friends as they were coming home from a football game. Her friend ended up flying through the windshield and landing about 200 yards from the car. Lina didnt have to think as she put pressure on the wounds and kept her friend calm while waiting for paramedics to arrive. It was that night that she knew she was addicted to the adrenalin rush. She knew what she wanted to do.  Finishing out high school, Lina ended up going and getting her degree in trauma medicine, doing her residency at Johns Hopkins. Realizing that she didnt want to return back to her hometown, she decided to travel a bit before receiving an offer to work at the hospital in Tonopah Valley. She had family out there in the form of her niece and nephew, and though she never talked to her brother she still wanted a relationship with his kids..even if it was hard.  Living in Tonopah for a year now, Lina is enjoying life working for the hospital and meeting new people. She grew close with one of the nurses, Reina, and has just been trying to settle in. 

Headcanons:

Girl is a music fiend. Knows how to play guitar, piano and the ukulele.

Shes not closed off, but shes also hard to get to know. Only a few people are allowed to see through the calm and collected exterior she has.  

Has PTSD from the car accident and also one really bad case that she lost the patient on. Would rather chew off her own foot than admit it though. 

Has a slight alcohol dependency, but its doesnt interfere with her work. 

She has a pristine 1967 Cherry Red Chevy Impala. She will literally go to prison over this car if someone touches it.

"No no.." he waves off her sorry, "Really compliments your face, actually..." Especially with the way it made her look thrilled to be where she was. He was being sarcastic, only messing, however, knowing in some ways that he didn't actually have to tell her that. Not unless he was intentionally pushing her buttons and getting a reaction he didn't want. "You not got a home to go?" He asks, curious to start with, mostly wondering why she was just sitting by herself.

"You know I do." The smile that appeared on her face was genuine despite the irritation that she was feeling for not being home in bed at the moment. "Nah, my friend needed a ride cuz her car broke down so I decided to do my one good deed of the day and help her out." Lina said pointing towards the building they were in front of. "Let her run her errand then take her home, then i'm going comatose for the next sixteen hours."

Baris observed the exchange between Lina and the kid, his expression a mix of amusement and a hint of annoyance which settled into the curves of his lips. He could tell that Lina's sharp retort had caught Aslan off guard, but he could also sense the underlying tension in the room.

When he didn't blink, a smirk tugged at Baris' mouth. Once again, that cocky exterior seemed to seep out of him, leaning back into his chair while his arms slid along the top of the booth, sprawled.

''Sorry...'' He flashed his teeth. ''Sweetheart.''

Oh, but he was an ass, and he was aware of it. A wall that he'd built around himself so many years ago that, at some point, it'd become a part of him. Who he was. ''I could be less of an ass, especially if you let me take you out for a drink.'' He paused, holding his hand up. ''In fact, agree to one drink and I'll be nice for the rest of the night.''

There was that damn nickname again, and Lina hated it. More so because it was coming from him. Men, they were usually all the same. Had to either keep up the bravado or, in the case of the kid sitting across from Baris, needed to be a follower.

Smirking a bit, she walked closer and leaned down, her palms flat on the table as her back faced the other kid. Her face was even with the other man as she held his gaze, neither of them backing down. "I would rather eat glass then have a drink with you." She said as sweetly as she could before reaching up and lightly tapping his cheek. "Have fun finding some other girl to fall for it though." Standing up she looked over at the kid and nodded before heading towards the door.

"Oh and Baris," She said turning around. "I dont think you would know how to be nice if it danced naked in front of your face, so nice try."

Making a face, she looked over at Lina, “He peaked? When?” She questioned, having never really been a fan of the actor in question, “Thought the douche bit was just part of his DNA at this point.” Reaching for Lina’s empty glass, she nodded, fully commiserating with the other woman, “I hear you. I’m off for three days,” or nights, in her case, “And I don’t plan on doing a fucking thing.” Except Rio…she planned on doing him plenty, but she kept that bit to herself as she poured them both another glass. “Well, I’m thinking about getting a pet bunny…how’s that for new?” Reina snorted a laugh as she passed over Lina’s fresh drink. “What about you?” She asked, glancing over at her, “Making any progress with your brother?”

"Excuse you, he was hot once upon a time." Lina said laughing as she took the glass back from Reina. Raising a brow at her, she took a sip and shook her head. "I'm sorry, but when are you going to be able to take care of a bunny? Our lives are hectic enough as it is without throwing a pet into the mix." Honestly, Lina had been thinking of getting a dog, but she would feel bad if it was left at home all day every day while she did her shifts at the hospital. "Why not a goldfish?"

Since his discharge from the Marine Corps four years ago, Antonio had been through more ups and downs than he’d ever thought possible. But it wasn't even the booze or the drugs that had seen him hit rock bottom. It was the way he hadn’t been there for his kids and knowing that his own shortcomings had impacted both of them in a negative way. While Tony didn’t know that he’d ever forgive himself for that, he was at least trying to make up for those mistakes now by spending as much time with them as their mother would allow. He didn’t know that it would even begin to cover all that he’d gotten wrong, but he’d never stop trying to somehow make it right.

In the meantime, though, it made him happy to see how much support the kids had in their corner. Though he and Lina weren’t close anymore, it was obvious that she’d clearly assumed the role of the favorite aunt, and that her love for both Aaron and Amelia was genuine. That was all Antonio wanted, no matter how estranged the two of them were. Chuckling to himself as the two latched onto her, he nodded, a warm smile pulling at the corner of his mouth, “Glad it worked out.” He wasn’t surprised to find how much he meant it– if anything, maybe the fair was a good opportunity for them to chip away at the wall between them, or at least, begin to.  Hearing that she was willing to join them, Tony smiled gently, then turned to the kids, “Why don’t you two lead the way?” He prompted, sending them both a few paces ahead of them, “We’ll be right behind you.” Starting towards the ferris wheel, he slipped his hands into his pockets and glanced over at his sister, “How was your shift?” While small talk had never been his forte, it was what their relationship had been reduced to, and so he was willing to try. “Not too busy, I hope?” Most of the town was likely here, at the fair, which meant they weren’t lining the halls of the ER. “Guess it’s sort of like feast or famine in your line of work.”

Lina smiled as she watched the kids run off towards the rides, her eyes still trained on them even though she gave part of her attention to her brother. Though the town was small, and she didn't normally have to worry, she still kept a close eye on the kids whenever they were all out in public together. Her job caused her to see some bad shit, enough so she was always on guard.

"Work was..." She trailed off trying to find the words for it. "Insane. I swear I didn't have a minute to breathe but it was something that I can't really complain about." Lina said smiling at him. "I hate it when its slow, makes the 16 hour shifts go by slower and I end up getting into trouble." Hearing the giggles of the kids ahead, she watched them joke around and play as she crossed her arms.

"How's it been on your end?" She asked, trying to find some even ground. "Settling in okay?"

“Honestly, this might be the sixth time we’ve watched this movie,” Reina laughed as she turned her attention to the screen and glimpsed the familiar opening titles of Armageddon, “I feel like I can practically quote it by now.” Not that that was necessarily a bad thing. It might not have been one of her all time favorites, but the movie was growing on her, little by little. Shrugging a shoulder, she raised her glass to her lips, finishing off the little bit of wine that was left, “I mean, it’s better than some shitty rom-com, but variety is the spice of life, my friend.” She tried to make it sound like she was complaining, but really, Reina didn’t give a shit what they watched, she just enjoyed having the company. Hopping up from the couch, her empty wine glass in hand, she started for the kitchen, “Need a refill while I’m up?”

"Excuse you, this movie is a classic. Its like peak Ben Affleck too, before he became all douchy and stuff." Lina said throwing some popcorn in her mouth as she motioned to the screen. Looking at her glass, she nodded as she handed it to Reina. "Please, i don't have a shift tomorrow so I can lay in bed and not do a damn thing." She said following the other woman into the kitchen. It was almost a weekly thing at this point. Movie night, wine drunk, uber home and crash, always with Reina who she had gotten close to working at the hospital. "So, what is new in your life? I feel like I've been so slammed at work this is the first time we've talked all week."

Making his way back from the gym, several packets of Disney stickers in hand he can't help but see that familiar cherry red chevy parked up. Something that lessened the surprise of seeing Lina's figure in the near distance, it was almost expected in the way his arms soon spread out wide the moment he made eye contact with her, enough to get her attention and to ensure it stayed he's now pointing at her briefly, "Lina Lina Lina..." His tone was purposely loud, all done to make sure she didn't just completely blank him. Arms back down by his side he starts walking towards her, "How's my Cherry Bomb?" Raising both brows quickly he's teasing; apparently in a good mood. "You're lookin' happy this mornin'." There's a clear indicator of sarcasm set within his tone, foolishly having all intentions of playfully annoying the shit out of her.

Honestly, she would rather be anywhere else than sitting outside waiting for her friend. Her shift had ended only a few hours ago, and Lina was running off very little sleep. But this was important and one broken down car later deemed the woman a makeshift uber. Scrolling through her phone, she looked up at the sound of her name and grinned.

"Well look what the cat dragged in." She said locking the device and putting it away. "I'm sorry that resting bitch face is my normal setting."

Baris narrowed his eyes, a mixture of frustration and disbelief etched on his face. He couldn't understand why Lina was challenging him yet again. It seemed like she'd taken the opposite stance just to provoke him, but even he wasn't that big-headed. He let out an exasperated sigh, his voice tinged with impatience.

"Look, sweetheart, it's nice of you to try to help but you're wasting your breath --- '' He gestured his hand in the direction of Aslan, who sat up rod straight. ''It doesn't work with this bunch," he retorted, his tone laced with a hint of exasperation and gravelly annoyance. "They need a strong hand, discipline, accountability. It's about pushing them to their best, and their very worst, even if it means ruffling a few feathers along the way."

Raising a brow, he turned to Aslan, who began speaking straight away. ''He's — he's right, military, it's how we are. It's wh — who we are. One mind --- '' He began to say the motto, but Baris finished it for him.

''One unit.''

''Leaders who try to coddle their teams; It leads to complacency and mediocrity. I refuse to let that happen. And worst of it all, them dead on my watch," and then he raised both hands up either side of him, as if to ask her to continue.

''You done?''

"Its Lina, not sweetheart." She spat out towards him. Lina didn't need him to preach about not coddling people to her, her father instilled that in her enough along with his love and respect. She knew first hand that it could go both ways.

Opening her mouth again to say something, the kid started speaking and she had to stifle a laugh. "You realize you sound like a cult right now, right?" She asked as she leaned around Baris and looked at the kid at the table.

"Blink twice if you're in danger." It was mostly said as a joke but also she saw the twitch on the other mans face as she nudged him more. "You don't have to be such an ass, that's all I'm saying."

''I didn't know being their boss afforded them such niceties when they clearly don't know how to listen in the first place?'' The words came out harsher than he intended, always finding a way to soften his words just slightly in the presence of a woman. But right now, that annoyance ran up his spine like there was ice in his veins.

Turning his full attention to Lina, cocking his head to the side as lips pursed, he gave a shrug. ''There's a reason my team works as hard as they do. We can afford fuck ups. That means being harsh. Tip-toeing around things? It won't get you fucking anywhere, darling.''

Glaring at him, Lina crossed her arms and resisted the urge to roll her eyes. No matter what she did, he always got under her skin and it was infuriating. Sparing a glance at the kid that was sitting across from him, the woman just shook her head.

"There's a difference between actually making them stronger and just being a dick. You can lead a great team with a different attitude, you don't always have to make them feel like shit."

If looks could kill, unfortunately, the man before him wouldn't be breathing. His eyes scanned the room, taking in every detail with a predatory focus. He was on edge, ready to pounce at any moment. He'd come to this seedy joint to do business, to entertain, and it was the ideal location for such a rendezvous.

''I need your mind and your eyes.'' Baris paused, jaw setting into a sharp line while crystal blues stared at the person before him, lips lifting into a sneer. ''Not your fucking mouth, got it?''

“Wow. Every persons dream to hear that.” Lina said as she took a sip of her beer. The two had been sitting behind her for a hot minute, but Lina didn’t realize she knew one of them till he opened his mouth.

Baris.

Turning around to look at him, she ignored who he was with. “Maybe if you were a bit nicer, they would want to actually help you out.” She said before turning to slap a 20 down on the bar and get up to go.

While it went without saying that the fair wasn’t quite Antonio’s scene, when it came to his children, the opposite was undoubtedly true. For the last two hours, he’d watched, mesmerized, as the two of them leaned into all the sights and sounds around them, never once taking a single moment of it for granted. It was spectacular, really. And it was in those collection of moments that Antonio knew– he could travel the world over, see every wonder it had to offer, and none of it would ever come close to how he felt as he witnessed his children experience true joy. It was the sort of thing that money couldn’t buy, and it only made him yearn for more moments just like this. But with custody being an uphill climb and his duties with the cartel keeping him busy, he’d take whatever he could get. Arming them both with cotton candy, Antonio started to guide them towards the ferris wheel, only to have them both dart off course and directly at their aunt. Glancing up from the tops of their heads, he met her gaze, and offered up a curt smile. “Lina, hey,” he greeted, giving a small wave. It was no secret that the two of them weren’t as close as they’d once been, and Tony didn’t pretend not to know why. But it was still so strange to him, even now, how flesh and blood could feel so foreign to him. But he knew that was his fault– in the last decade, he’d spent more time abroad than home; inevitably, that created distance, both physical and emotional. “Didn’t expect to see you here,” he mentioned, figuring he’d dive into the small talk, even though he wasn’t particularly good at it. “We were about to head over to the ferris wheel,” he explained, nodding down at his kids, “If you want to join?” In some ways, it was an olive branch– surely, the two of them could put their bullshit aside for a moment, just for the kids. “They might even share some cotton candy with you.”

She knew he was in town. She had seen him around and it wasn't like people kept quiet. The issue was her getting over the shit going on in her head to just go talk to him. Tony was her brother..they used to be close and then they just...weren't. And she hated it. Moving to town to be closer to the kids was one of the best choices that she could make, but it also opened up the doors that led to her brother.

She heard that the kids were going to be with him at the carnival, and Lina had gotten off work with enough time to go join them. She had tried to be a part of a lot of things that they wanted to do and showed up for almost every school event, baring any big things going through the ER. And every time they always brought up their dad and how excited they were to see him now that he was back. "Auntie Lina!" she heard as the kids ran over and she grabbed them in a hug. "Hi my babies. Your mama said that you guys were already here."

It was surreal seeing Tony. Even weirder that they were at the small talk stage. "Uh, yeah. I promised the kids I would come by if my shift ended early, and it did so.." She said motioning around as she ran her hands through her niece's hair. When he mentioned the Ferris wheel she nodded.

"Oooh, going to share your cotton candy with me? I am so game." She said with a smile. It was hard to feel irritation towards her brother when the kids were around. "I would love to join you guys."
