Writing is on hold due to major burnout. Any writing done will most likely be slow and sporadic. When I get back to it I do not intend to have any kind of schedule or at least not one that I share publicly as I'm sick of announcing something only for plans to fall through. I somehow, in spite of turning off paid tiers, just somehow got a $1/month Patreon follower. I'll be honest guys without a regular posting schedule and having given up on making a living off my writing I think I'll delete my Patreon. Any posts I made there I'll just repost here, and just leave it at that. Because I really don't like that I couldn't undo people's paid memberships, people had to go and undo it personally themselves, and I still am getting some money from people who I just guess didn't get the memo, and now despite having no paid tiers I just got a paid member.

This all feels like a lot more trouble than it's worth to me at this point and I'd rather just post things for free here on tumblr I guess. I liked the organization of Patreon and god knows the search function on tumblr is nonexistent. But at this point it's just frustrating and not working for me.

So, yeah, random update, I might just go ahead and delete that and migrate any posts here onto tumblr. Expect it to take a couple months though since it'll take a little bit for me to have the free time.

Writing Update

Hello everyone, a necessary update. This is being posted on Patreon as well so that I make sure everybody interested in supporting my writing sees it.

My Patreon is now public and free. This will give you access to all of my posts including all Tales from the Scorched Lands, the short stories that give glimpses into the backgrounds of the various characters in Mortal Leviathans (affectionately nicknamed "the dragonfucker series").

When I overcome this damn burnout I will resume posting on Patreon so that everything is organized, in one place, and you all get helpful email updates when I post. I think it's just a little more organized than tumblr.

I am continuing to work on my original novels and do still hope to publish them. However, for now, I am putting a hold on the idea of making any actual income from them.

My poetry collection Manifesto of a Blossoming Supervillain is being changed to be free-to-download, including as a free PDF on my website (Amazon makes me charge $0.99 for an ebook but it all goes to them). If you would like a physical copy, there are links to various retail options. The price covers production and shipping costs, I make no profit.

Long story short, this boils down to being fucked up the ass by taxes, and hitting major burnout. I don't want to get into it, and I don't want advice. But I'm cutting out anything in my life that doesn't earn me a W-2 (for non-Americans, don't worry about it, just know it's a type of job filing for the government).

Things will be very tight for me, but my attempts to get ahead and be more financially stable by taking on other work has not only not solved my financial problems (it's only created new ones), it's also exhausted me to the point where I cannot write. My hope is that by going down to just one job, the one that earns me a W-2, will solve both the problem of my burnout and of this frustrating financial merry-go-round.

I deeply appreciate each and every one of you who bought a copy of my poetry collection, who signed up for my Patreon, who has sent me kind messages of support and encouragement, and so on, over the last two years since I tried self-publishing.

My thinking is that, well, I got lots of readers just by having fun and posting my fanfic. I didn't have any kind of plan. I was just having fun. Why am I doing anything different with my original work?

What's most important to me is not that I make money off my writing, but that my writing is read and enjoyed and that I have fun sharing it. Maybe making a living off this is just not in the cards for me. It sucks, but it's okay. What matters most is that you all get to meet my original characters that I love so much, and go on their journeys with them, and hopefully, maybe, love them just like I do.

Again: I will keep sharing my writing. I just won't be accepting any finances from it that could be construed as income (my Ko-fi will remain open if you feel like throwing a few bucks my way here and there) for the time being.

Raleigh: Coffee no longer helps me so instead I periodically have Frisco send me messages that say "we need to talk." Raleigh: It gives me the right amount of adrenaline and fear I need to keep going.
