I finished Grapes of Wrath. 2/10. There was an entire chapter on a turtle crossing the road. (It was chapter three)

me to myself: be calm
Dark Academia Tips #3
1. Fashion is difficult. Buy the sweatshirt of an expensive ivy-league college. For me, I have my motherâs William and Mary sweatshirt. She went there. Even if your mother did not go to what you are wearing, imply that she did. Or just say you intend to go there, if you arenât that good at lying.
2. Make a playlist of songs that you find Dark Academia to get yourself in the mindset when you feel like it. Make sure it includes Lordeâs entire Melodrama album.Â
3. Do your best to not get involved in school or workplace drama unless it involves someone dead- as of recently or otherwise. If itâs a recent death, make sure to hide the fact you did it.
4. If youâre a quiet person, you can use this to your advantage. If someone is acting idiotically, stare at them with a blank face until they stop doing the stupid thing they are doing. If you are not a quiet person, never fear- make snide comments about them under your breath until they have shame.
5. If someone is going to be passing by your room and you have the door open, put on classical music- The Secret History works well- blast it at top volume. Wave your fingers like you are conducting the music.
6. Learn several phrases in another language and work them into your daily vernacular, câest pas?Â
7. Set yourself a bedtime- Mine is midnight. This ensures you get up early enough to hide bodies/learn poetry.
8. If youâre sick, say youâve come down with childhood nostalgia, and youâll need a moment.
9. Quote Dead Poetâs Society subtly. Subtlety is key.
10. Act as if Donna Tarte herself is responsible for your creation.

What happens when an academic graduates and gets a job
-Totebags. Too many totebags.
-Patterned sweater vests
-For our femme-feeling friends, pleated skirts.
-Muted colours, specifically neutrals
-Classical books... lots of them
-Book quotes
-Introverted
-Maybe a little anxious
-English majors
-Slacks/Loose jeans
-Button up shirts
-College sweatshirts
-Cats
-Falling asleep holding a book
-Tea and coffee
-Raining outside, youâre inside cosily studying
-Huge cardigans
-Spending 80% of your time at the library
Drink wine tainted with the blood of your enemies. Participate in midnight orgies to honour the Gods. Commit heinous acts in the name of competition. Just be on time for your 8:30 A.M class.Â
Obscure Fact of the Day
Forrest Fenn, an art dealer and author, hid a treasure chest in the Rocky Mountains worth over 1 million dollars. It still has not been found.
Dark Academia Tips #2
1. Invest in a planner. Write down how to get away with murder in perfect cursive. Also, write down when your classes are and when things are due, so you do not have any issues this semester.
2. If in doubt, add a cardigan in the colours grey or beige. A coat or cardigan of almost any kind will always make one look like an academic, of which you can then act like.
3. If, unfortunately, your parents are not long dead and have left you with a sizeable inheritance, turn to them for help with schoolwork if you must. Itâs free, unlike a tutor, and most parents will care very much about your education.
4. Dedicate at least 30 minutes to studying per day, exceptions being sick or you are on trial (or trying to put someone on trial, mysteries count too). Read over course material, work out new math problems, read further ahead and find more resources for history. Your grades will thank you.
5. If you need to study, head to a library. Many now have little cafes inside where you can locate food and drink. Grab a small snack- brains work best when not hungry- and a big book to study with. Wear a black turtleneck and a beret, and people will mostly leave you alone. Bonus points if you wear a cardigan.
6. If you have fallen in love, write your beloved darling a poem or a letter. Take a moment to appreciate them, for in this mortal realm of which death is ever approaching, every moment you have can be a memory worth making.
7. If you do not have a lover, congrats! You are free of that existential crisis. However, you may be lonely. If not, good for you. If you are, go to a cafe, or perhaps a library- maybe you can even meet someone in class. Just strike up a conversation with someone you feel is a kindred spirit. If it doesnât go well, theyâre missing out on a wonderful person.
8. If you are in school, thereâs a large possibility that you may have a club that pertains to your interest. Look for an academically inclined one- my personal favourites are theatre, poetry, and art. Not only can you meet friends, you can gain practical skills for your hobbies, whilst still feeling that of the dark academics, you are indeed the darkest.
9. If you are bored, write something- anything- onto a whiteboard. Fill it up with numbers, poetry, quotes, drawings, until you have it fully coated. Hang it or leave it somewhere conspicuous- you now have a decor piece you can change at will, and a testament to your intelligence.
10. If you have graduated and are no longer in school, fear not! Academia ages with you like a fine, red wine. Go to your library, attend lectures, stay up-to-date on world news. Maybe learn an instrument with your time. If you are able, consider going back to college and getting a degree in something you enjoy- English or the Fine Arts are always a good choice.
types of dark academia
classic academia: beige trench coats, wool sweaters. plaid skirts. think femme fatale, but educated. sobbing in bed late at night over the secret history or dead poets society. tea with milk and sugar. subsequent tea stains.
darkest academia: running through the rain, dimly lit by streetlights. brown tweed jackets, dress shoes. cold fingers and colder gazes. french-pressed black coffee, piping hot. dark, candlelit rooms with ancient wood floors/walls.Â
light academia: white cable-knit sweaters, sparkly eyes and foggy glasses. going to art museums and falling in love with every portrait, every sculpture. caressing the petals of a rose, hearing the crinkle of leaves underfoot.
witchy academia: burning candles while reading or doing homework. black turtlenecks, velvet skirts. walking through the forest in autumn. passing a graveyard and feeling a greyish presence. waiting anxiously for samhain.
romantic academia: writing flowery poetry about someone youâll never speak to (guilty oops). a cozy alizarin sweater, pleated skirts. slow dancing around your room to the beatles. curling up with warm, pallid cups of tea and a book.
scholarly academia: impeccable notes in class. leather bound bags crammed with textbooks and pens. lots of coffee with scones, and even more late nights. a wide vocabulary (that people constantly comment on). lives in the library.
theatre academia: shakespeare, all the time - quoting, reading, praying for a school production of a midsummer nights dream. or the crucible. memorizing lines in the wings. taking on your characterâs traits, even outside the theater.
every day i wonder why i'm not living in a dark castle with secret passageways and rooms filled with books

who gave oscar wilde permission to write stuff like âdeath must be so beautiful. to lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above oneâs head, and listen to silence. to have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. to forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace. you can help me. you can open for me the portals of deathâs house, for love is always with you, and love is stronger than death isâ with such ease? to touch my soul so casually? like who gave him all that talent and can i have some
