“The Little Things”
The idea behind this project was focused around the phrase “the little things”. It is from this concept I started to look into other artist who focused on small works, and I found “miniatures”. I used this medium to create little props/objects that could carry out my message. With the bases of what and how, I started to brain storm ideas and eventually moved on to hands on play. I experimented with ideas and possible methods of executing the theme. Later took a walk around to see the environments I could play with and twist. I then decided on a few directions and started to create them. After which I found them “homes” and places around my area. Hoping each piece offered an interesting narrative in its respective environment.
The main idea behind these pieces were to create stories, curiosity, and life. Each piece suggests life and hidden characters, a swing, doors, ladder, and power lines, all associated with human interaction or use. The hope was that people would stumble upon these little vague environments and make them question its purpose. To surprise the viewer and make them think more deeply about the little things around them that they take for granted. To show case that every place as its hidden gems. The pieces can always be extended to greater concepts such as the world being too big and ideas of imagination. Through the projects vagueness, people can have their own experience and “finish” the narrative and art work. I merely wanted to spark an idea, not necessarily form it. The art work in a way being a collaboration with the public.
The project plays with the topics of
- Experimentation
- Vagueness
- Erasure
- Perception
- Transitions
