I wish blockbuster action films got half the shit for being expensive formulaic violent misogynist racist pro-cop/military propaganda that Hallmark films do for being cheaply made formulaic romances about women figuring out what they want from life.

Don’t get me wrong, Hallmark Christmas movies have a lot of problems – they’re heavily pro-Christian, almost entirely white and heterosexual, and glorify a vision of rural life deeply at odds with its reality. They are often poorly written.

But every year they get mercilessly, endlessly mocked for being movies about women who reject corporate culture, become small business owners, and meet nice men who respect their boundaries and wishes.

Kinda sus, guys.
