knowledge is power, your health depends on it
This documentary is a guaranteed to make you feel differently about the food you eat.
Watch the abridged version of IRT founder, Jeffrey Smith's seminal documentary, Genetic Roulette—The Gamble of Our Lives, free from December 22nd-January 2nd.
Treat yourself to some knowledge about the food you consume
Our Blood Informs Us What Foods We Should or Should Not Eat
All Humans will benefit from a Food Allergy Blood Test. A quinoa or oatmeal allergy makes some 'healthy' foods wrong choices for some of us. Correct foods will lower disease and medications to cover symptoms. I know this first hand with my family.
80% of all people are poisoning ourselves and we don't even realize it.
I have written a letter to the Obamas and started a petition. I'll post updates on my facebook as I have them as well as sending out the petition to as many people daily. Anyone interested in joining in on these efforts please let me know.
Here is my story and why I am so passionate about making a difference to others:
I am the only of 5 kids in my family who does NOT have Colon disease, along with my Mom and my grandmother had colon disease. My only sister passed suddenly at 50 years old of high blood pressure, my grandmother died at 55 of crones disease, my mom was impacted by diabetes early and heart issues, with open heart surgery in her late 50's and a stroke at 64 put her in a wheelchair, home care needed, then nursing home to her passing this year.
I have dropped 70 lbs as a result of altering my diet from learning about my food allergies I still work at educating myself and finding healthy and affordable foods to nourish my body the right way.
There are so many colon disease organizations I notice online, I believe this could also benefit so many of us impacted by colon disease. I further believe that my mom's suffering from diabetes had something to do with un-diagnosed food allergies she had.
“Your task is not to seek love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” Rumi
Everyday I get to meet the coolest people coming through our store. I learn so much from our customers and their hunger to improve the quality of their lives through their diets is inspiring to me.
We have such a ball, our customer service team. Learning all the codes for the register and the distinction 'vegetable' has SO many facets (and codes). I'm happy that my degree in Mathematics is coming in handy.
I am honored by the opportunity to be 1 of 2 personal shoppers on our team. This is WAY cool for me, given my own huge diet changes due to food allergies, to be part of people's lives now in the area of 'food' and any other grocery items needed.
The email address on our site goes to Linda and myself, along with our whole Team Leadership at our Galleria store in St. Louis. Soon the site will be updated with various services that we can offer, including re-stocking your kitchen if you find out about food allergies or a family member has different diet needs than others.
I want to thank my mentor Larry Austin, back in his home town in Michigan after being our visiting store Team Leader. August 9 I met you and my life has never been the same. Thanks Larry! :)
What does our 'Job Title' 'mean' about who we are?
Today makes 2.5 weeks I've been attending a 'boot camp' of sorts, learning the ropes of Wholefoods Market, a lot of manual labor and all about customer service, with my goal being this: ~ Delight every shopper and be a contributing and valuable team member. I get to walk a lot, use a lot of muscles and body parts that my Realtor activities are a stark contrast to. I'm a little sore this morning from an extra long day yesterday, as I prepare myself for another great day at Wholefoods Market today. Today is a special day: Today is KIDS DAY at WFM. We are doing activities all throughout the day, including: Face Painting AND "Skrapkins Kids Recycled Arts Class". I am fulfilled by the physical manual labor job I am doing as much as I am fulfilled by being a Real Estate Agent. This is a paradigm shift for me. I have found myself having a certain view of Manual Labor jobs. And this view keeps the 'lid' on my possibilities. Sure, it may have been okay and sufficient for me to work myself through college but am I really suppose to being doing THIS kind of work with all the education and experience I have? I grapple with it, and I wonder 'why do I grapple with this?' And I realize it's because of my 'view' / 'perception' of someone's level of intelligence or status based on the 'job title'. I see how natural it is and so human that I have defined myself by the 'kind' of work I do.' I.e. Real Estate Agent versus Computer Programmer versus working as External Travel Staff with Olivia Travel versus Customer Service Team Member at Whole Foods Market. ~The common thread I see throughout my life in every job I have enjoyed doing has been about making a difference. I googled 'Manual Labor' and this shed some light on it for me. The portion of the definition that struck me is: "...Although nearly any work can potentially have skill and intelligence applied to it, many jobs that mostly comprise manual labour—such as fruit and vegetable picking, manual materials handling (for example, shelf stocking), manual digging, or manual assembly of parts—often may be done successfully (if not masterfully) by unskilled or semiskilled workers. Thus there is a partial but significant correlation between manual labour and unskilled or semiskilled workers. Based on economic and social conflict of interest, people may often distort that partial correlation into an exaggeration that equates manual labour with lack of skill; with lack of any potential to apply skill (to a task) or to develop skill (in a worker); and with low social class. Throughout human existence the latter has involved a spectrum of variants, from slavery (with stigmatisation of the slaves as "subhuman"), to caste or caste-like systems, to subtler forms of inequality..." The thing of it is this, I am MOST happy when I am making a contribution, making a difference to someone. I love the continued challenge of growing and stretching myself... learning new job skills no matter my age. Sort of reminds me of the days I first started to learn to play goalkeeper when I was 17 years old. I had the attitude in those days to welcome any and all practice drills my coach threw my way. My Soccer Coaches I compare to my managers at WFM. I do everything they tell me & coach me, whatever they ask. My attitude is this: ~ When it's time to empty trash, I want to do the best job I can clearing trash... ~ When it comes time to bring in the shopping carts, I welcome doing the best job I can to clear the carts from the lot and intercepting the cart of customers at their cars, to make their experience as pleasurable as possible ~ When I am bagging groceries, Its sort of like the game Tetris, and I want to do the best job I can making sure that the foods and products of each person makes it safely home with them and that the bags are the 'right' weight. ~ And when I am cleaning our cafe, I want to make the space as welcoming as possible for all who wish to sit and enjoy their foods and friends, all throughout the day. So, for me, it's been sort of like a 'boot camp', in a way, developing my Manual Labor and Customer Service Skills. I notice sometimes I have thoughts pop in my head that are dis-empowering conversations such as 'am I really doing this kind of work?' And in the next moment I have some wonderful interaction with one of our customers or one of my team members, and I immediately go to the next task to complete, with a smile and excitement to do that next physical task the best that I can do. We don't have control over our thoughts, but we do have control over the thoughts we indulge in. We can only hold one thought at a time in our head, and we get to choose which thoughts we want to fill up the space in our head.

Remembering last year's trip I was graced with from some friends. This was awesome fun. May, 2011, on the Mexican Riviera Cruise with Olivia Travel, Excursion in Cabo. The tour company that Olivia Travel arranged to be our guides were really awesome and fun. They took us Zip lining, rock repelling, rock climbing, great laughs throughout the whole trip and we were treated to delicious refreshments at the end. All this PLUS everyone on our excursion were other women traveling with Olivia's so we had a blast. Thank you Judy Torres for inviting me to join you and your lovely entourage on this Adventure Excursion. Pretty lucky that we were both on the waiting list and yet both of us got to go. I'll be forever grateful to my dear friends Jane Ellen Ibur and Sondra Seiler. You made it possible for me to go on this cruise when your friend had to cancel at the last minute. — with Olivia Travel and Judy Torres at Olivia Travel Mexican Riviera Cruise 2011.
Home Sweet Home after Fun Times in Cancun with Olivia Travel
Lisa’s Big Adventure … Cancun to St.Louis to Chicago to Ohio to New York to St.Louis. Cancun with Olivia Travel May 5-12 2012 was amazing. Check out this video clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWn7K-MtofM&sns=fb
Returning to St.Louis May 12, Mother’s Day with Mom in the hospital, plus the anniversary date of my sister passing away 5 years ago, just all made me feel the need to spend my birthday month with my brother Scott and Rich in New York.
On May 19, I drove spontaneously from St.Louis to Chicago, packing up my vw convertible bug and my 2 dogs, and had a wonderful birthday celebration with my friends Michaela Lovegood and Heather Lovegood.
My drive through Ohio was great, visiting friends along the way. Pennsylvania was a beautiful drive, reminding me of the gorgeous rolling hills of Missouri.
Spending quality time with my brother Scott at his Manhattan apartment, with my dogs, experiencing my friends and all of the beautiful views and the sounds of New York City.
Dreaming big, taking lots of actions to keep going for my dreams. Meanwhile, sometimes signs from the Universe show me there is Divine intervention. One of my dreams is to live by the Ocean and the Mountains. And to travel all over the world. Being part of the Olivia Staff in Cancun May 5-12, 2012 was life altering for me.
‘Chance’ meetings’, co-incidence or not? Hanging out with my brother Scott so he could introduce me to his client, who was running late.
The next thing I know I am talking with a couple women in front of the restaurant who noticed my Olivia red tank top. A ‘chance’ encounter with the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of GO Magazine. Amy Lesser, what a great honor to meet you, by chance, and briefly chat.

Congratulations Tisha Floratos and Olivia Travel.

I had the Time of my Life in Cancun Mexico May 5-12, 2012 with Olivia and all of the beautiful wonderful women all over the world. Thank you all! xoxoxo
Dreams Really Do Come True. Thank you Olivia :)
Cancun Mexico, I had the most amazing time with Olivia Travel this past week, with over 700 women from all over the world. This was my first trip being a staff woman with an extraordinary exceptional remarkable team of women. I feel so blessed and honored to have been asked to be on this trip. The whole reason I wanted to be a staff woman with Olivia on their vacation trips is because of when I was on my first trip with Olivia 2 years ago as a vacationer, the way the Olivia Staff are committed 110 Percent to each and every Olivia Vacationer to have the vacation of their dreams....Wow....Life really has been heaven on earth for me this past week. Thank you Olivia Travel, Judy Dlugacz, Tisha Floratos, Jules, Jen, Linda, Courtney, and all of my fellow Olivia Staff Team for the years of work you've done to create this amazing place for Lesbians to Feel Free. All these activities I adored, next to the ocean, with a Club Med Staff that was top notch. Dancing by the pool, Volleyball and Basketball in the pool with my Sisters, Beach Volleyball, Trapeze for the first time, Kayaking with a new friend from London, Sailing, Dancing with all of the Solos women who courageously traveled alone to meet up with new friends all over the world, Dancing to wee hours in the morning to the best music mix from DJ Tina T and D.j. Rockaway, and the best entertainment from hilarious and brilliant comedian Karen Williams, and fabulously funny comedian Gloria Bigelow, Wild funny Mimi Gonzalez, and out of control comedian Michele Balan, and beautiful silky songs from Blair Hansen, and Transformative and Liberating poetry from C.c. Carter. I am in a state of bliss now with all of the wonderful memories and images I have returned home with, new friends all over the world to look forward to seeing again very soon. Big Hugs to all of the Ladies of Olivia Travel. I love you all and felt more at home than ever before.
Thank you Olivia Staff and all of my new Olivia Family of Ladies all over the world.
Until we see each other again, big hugs.

April 25, and the days are getting closer, 9 more days to Cancun…
Jan's Coming Out was featured last nite in St. Louis at our QFest at The Tivoli Theatre. Great seeing many of my friends here in St. Louis enjoying this event.
I LOVED the movie! First, it was fun re-experiencing the Olivia cruise from last March 2011 since I was lucky enough to be on that trip by being given a ticket. I saw you all do your thing on this trip and seeing all the familiar scenes from that vacation makes me ultra excited to be with Olivia Travel in Cancun in 9 days.
I really loved the variety of women who you interviewed and the humor throughout your story kept me wanting more. I really appreciate hearing the challenges various women have had in their own coming out stories, in their own lives, when younger or older; I could really relate to many of the women. I believe this is a tremendously valuable movie to be seen more women, and girls and really all people. Thank you for your work, Jan, and all of your team's work!
Congratulations Jan! The topic, people and approach in your film is perfect in presenting such an important and on going process in our life, as LGBTQ, and in particular, as Lesbians.
Thank you Carolyn, Jan and Alison for creating this film and interviewing all the women from all over the world. You looked like you had a blast creating it too.
The Jan’s Coming Out DVD is NOW available to purchase in the UK

I am very proud of my friends Janie Ibur and Sondra Seiler who are featured as one of the couples in the movie and acknowledged for their committed relationship. I was so happy to have the opportunity to photograph them in front of their home last year to resemble their photograph when they first got together 30 years ago. A ‘5 seconds of fame” for me as I’m mentioned in the credits under ‘Thanks To: Lisa Frumhoff …” for taking some current photographs for the movie. Thanks for giving me the opportunity and privilege to be a part of this historic movie, Jan.
I am so honored to be part of this history and part of the 1983 UMR Women's Soccer Team.
The name badge I wore in Philadelphia when I received my All-American Award in 1983 among the other women soccer players, 33 to be exact. There were 3 All-American Teams, and I had no idea at that time what this historically created for all of us, and all women soccer players, and all girls growing up playing soccer dreaming of someday playing soccer in the Olympics as well as possibly being a Professional Soccer player.
10 days and counting, and magical moments around every corner...
10 days until Olivia's **sold out** Cancun resort vacation! A few of the Olivia Team are arriving early to get the resort ready for our guests! Check out how much fun we had the last time we were there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2P__Y0EtAQ&list=PL95AC0D49CA3E16A0&index=3&feature=plcp
I get to go up 1 day early to meet my team and get ready for my first trip as Olivia Staff and I am SO VERY EXCITED to be part of the team of hosts committed to having each and every guest of Olivia have an amazing memorable dream vacation.
I am so excited to share Olivia's NEW eCatalog! 23 trips to choose from. Which trip are you booked on or dreaming of? http://issuu.com/oliviatravel/docs/20122013catalog Olivia's new eCatalog - in a downloadable PDF (in case you are using an iPhone or iPad) and don't have Flash! http://www.olivia.com/download/E-Catalog/20122013/Olivia_20122013_lowres.pdf
AND back to my Soccer days and this recent letter I received:
Reading this letter again, I'm still pinching myself.
Wow, it's been 29 years since I wore this name tag and attended the 1983 Awards Ceremony in Philadelphia, where the All-American Women Soccer Players from all over the United States were acknowledged. I put it on the back of my MVP award and for years it's been packed away. Recently moving, I found this and put it in my own 'Hall Wall of Fame'. :)
April 18, 2012 16 days until I'm in Cancun Mexico with Olivia as a new team member. Today I received AMAZING news.
I just received this letter in the mail today. I sat in my car and giggled for about 10 minutes, in true bliss and happiness about the accomplishments of our Soccer Team at UMR. I wrote an earlier posting about my years playing Varsity Women's Soccer as the Goalkeeper for the University of Missouri in Rolla from 1982 to 1984. I have played in the National Olympic Sports Festival, too, in 1985. This letter I received today has a lot of history around it, which again, I shared some things earlier in this blog.
Coach Paul McNally, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be the starting goal keeper on the new Women's Varsity Soccer Team in 1982, me having only 1 year of indoor soccer under my belt, I was unproven, unknown, new to Goalkeeping, and yet thanks to Title 9 and you, Coach, I got a scholarship to play Soccer, along with my Academic Scholarship, too.
This letter, this award of our team from 1983 being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at The University of Missouri Rolla's, now Missouri S & T.
Your leadership for the Lady Miners took us to being ranked 10th Nationally our 2nd year of playing other college teams who were well established. You know more about all of that, I would love to hear more of what you know about teams we played who were in Divisions more competitive than ours. We held our own.
You picked an amazing group of women to create an extraordinary kickoff to Women's Soccer at Rolla. The years we played are years I will ALWAYS REMEMBER. Now, we have the opportunity and privilege to have a reunion of our 1983 team. This is a dream come true for me. I miss everyone and would love to reconnect.
Your coaching and leadership encouraged me to excel and reach levels and results in my game that I never even dreamed were possible.
Thank you Coach McNally.
Thank you Coach Kay Sofian, who coached me the summer before I started College Soccer at UMR, thanks to my Mom's suggestion. You taught me the foundation and pushed me to levels I never knew nor dreamed were possible.
Thank you, Mom, for suggesting I take on a coach to teach me how to play, suggesting I contact the men's team and see if their coach would coach me.
Thank you, Dad, for driving me ALL over St. Louis for ALL of my sports, softball, and soccer, tennis, basketball, field hockey, Track Shot Put and Discus, swimming 1 season even, and the soccer, you drove me ALL over the area so I could play soccer.
And thank you to all of me 1982-1984 Soccer teammates and friends at UMR, and all the fun, traveling, playing, crying, laughing, joking, losing, and winning.
Thank you Mark Mullen, The Director of Athletics at Missouri S & T (formerly UMR), for the amazing and profound acknowledgment of our team.
April 9, 2012, 25 days and counting ...
25 days until I leave for Cancun. :) yay
I just have to say again and again how grateful I am for how lucky and blessed I have been in life. I get to be part of the Olivia Team in Cancun May 5-12, 2012. The fact that I even was introduced to Olivia and going on the 2 cruises I’ve been on with Olivia is a miracle. Both were ‘gifts’.
I just completed my Zumba Instructor License Training to add to my AFAA Group fitness Certification and experience teaching Kickboxing. I have had my journey and transformation on my own body, mind and spirit. Healthy Eating, Exercise and movement is SO much fun! And dancing on the Olivia trips is SO MUCH FUN. Since January 2009 I've dropped 60+ lbs, 35% body fat, and 35+ inches in my body, and gone from a size 18/20 to a 9/10.
I LOVE dancing, and it was a learned behavior for me. I spent much of my childhood playing basketball and dance parties at the Turners house next door. That’s where I learned to dance. In those days I was this shy little white girl watching from the sidelines, soaking in as many dance moves as I could. Lesbian dances were the first place I felt comfortable dancing. Now I dance until the sun comes up.
I am grateful for TITLE 9 and advancements for Women’s Sports.
I have this "Déjà vu" memory, a flashback to the summer before my freshman year in college, when the new Women’s Varsity Soccer Team at Rolla was looking for a goalkeeper. The coach came to watch me play indoor goalie. I had never had lessons and only played for 6 months of indoor soccer when he recruited me. Coach gave me a scholarship to attend University of Missouri Rolla and play starting goalkeeper on the 1st season of the UMR Women’s Soccer Team. That summer I worked really hard before our 1st season, had my own goalie coach to teach me how to play outdoor goalie. My committed efforts were rewarded by our team's and my results.
It's been 28 years since I've seen my college coach Paul McNally. In January 2012, thanks to FACEBOOK, Coach McNally, contacted me and his words really were music to my ears.
Especially since when I had been awarded All-American in 1984 with UMR, our team was ranked 10th Nationally that year which was HUGE since this was only our 2nd season. The highest point in my athletic career, and the lowest point as a Lesbian in the closet, scared to come out. I left Rolla in 1985, after my 3rd season and finished my Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
I stopped going to play in the Alumni games in the late 80's after never seeing my All-American Award displayed along with all of the other (mostly Men) All-American Athletes at Rolla. I didn't understand why my All-American Award wasn't displayed ~ so I thought I failed since I transferred from UMR to UMC.
In 2002 when I called Athletic Director at UMR, he was so happy to hear from me. I emailed him a copy of my All-American Award since he asked to see it. He knew who I was from all of the articles and in fact, he mentioned I still held the record for the lowest goals per game average. One season, in 1984, my average goals allowed were .94 goals per game. In the call with the Athletic Director, Mark Mullen, he said
"Lisa your name had come up to be in the Hall of Fame at UMR but because I had not graduated from Rolla, I could not be in the Hall of Fame."
Then I said to him, which he had no idea at that time, as he would have no way of knowing "Well, Mark, for what it's worth, I did graduate from the University Of Missouri in Columbia (UMC), which is part of the University Of Missouri School System, for what it's worth. "
2 weeks I later I received a certified letter in the mail from UMR congratulating me for being nominated to be inducted in the University Of Missouri at Rolla's Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2002, I was the first Woman Soccer player inducted in the Hall of Fame in Rolla. On that day in September 2002, 18 years from the year I was awarded All-American, my award was finally hanging in the front glass case along with all of the other All-American Athletes. I was moved to tears and sobbed like a baby.
“Lisa!!!, Just saw the article about you and the famous astronaut on the NCAA web page. … Been a Long time but I will forever remember that first Women's team at UMR and will ALWAYS consider UMR, it's people, it's campus and you players as the best college I ever had the opportunity to be at. I continue to look at Rolla as a special place, a special school and the best experience!!. in my mind you will always be a good person, a very talented Goalkeeper and a kid who took a chance on a new program with a new coach with no idea what direction we were headed.
Lisa, you were an unproven Goal Keeper from University City Schools becoming an All-American.
Great to see you continue to be recognized as the GK you were by the NCAA.”
Coach Paul McNally, 1982-1985 my Soccer Coach for UMR. Go Miners!
I had the honor of being interviewed by the NCAA, I played soccer with some amazing wonderful women, including a now NASA Astronaut, Sandra Magnus.

As I prepare for my first experience on the Olivia Team, those pre college days and preparing for my first day on the field with the other women, this is how I feel right now, as I prepare for my first adventure with Olivia Travel as Staff. I am more excited in life than I can remember being in years and years, if ever this excited.
p.s. I am so happy my 2 little pups and my kitty will have a live in pet sitter for them while I’m away, and he's going to be my housemate renting my basement, too. yay!
Here's my Zumba License. I'm so excited to learn as much as I can and I'm having a blast at the same time. Zumba makes me giggle and smile.
