hi guys!!!! i love your app and it's beautiful but is the only way to reblog music through opening it in tumblr and reblogging it there? i'm sorry if i've missed it! but it'd be great to be able to do it in the app again!! also, where do we enter the promo codes? will there be an option once the listenr2 comes out? thanks so so much!

Yeah, we decided to just link you to the post in the official Tumblr app to reblog. This feature is really complicated to get right (because of multiple blogs, public vs private posts, and formatting your post properly). We figured it’d be better to keep version 2 simple and streamlined for starters and focus on the core experience.

I can't login to the app. I even recently changed my password, as I couldn't remember it. My account is set with two-factor authorization.

How will two-factor authentication work when I log in through iOS or Android apps?

When you have two-factor authentication turned on, you'll need to generate a special one-time-use password in order to log in through your mobile apps. Using either app, you should receive the code via text or through an authenticator app, depending on which method you chose during setup. Don't worry about memorizing that password, by the way. You'll only need it once, and it's really stupid-looking anyway.

Submitting Listenr 2.0 to the App Store THIS WEEK!

So I didn’t quite make my own deadline of getting Listenr 2 in the App store by the end of May.

BUT! I just rolled out a new beta, and I’m feeling pretty confident about it. This initial release is very bare-bones, but it works.

Anyone who wants to try it out and do some final testing so I can uncover any remaining bugs, be my guest. Just send me a Tumblr message with your email address, and I’ll add you to the beta.

Otherwise, look for it on the app store sometime next week *fingers crossed*.

Listenr Version 2 Beta Test

Hey folks.

It has been a LONG time.

While I was in college, I had a hard time prioritizing working on Listenr. I needed to study, get my assignments done, and figure out various ways to support my living expenses.

Now that I’m out of school, I do have a bit of time to devote to Listenr and other side projects.

Since making the app available for free back in 2010, some 25,000+ people have downloaded Listenr. That is pretty remarkable!

I just want you all to know that version 2 is well underway. It’s being redesigned to fit in well with the latest iOS and actually play tracks from external sources like SoundCloud. Hopefully we’ll be able to add some interesting new features to boot.

Anyway, I would like to invite anyone who has downloaded Listenr in the past (especially the ~400 folks who actually paid money for it, hah) to participate in a beta test for the new app over the coming weeks. All you need to do is send us a Tumblr message with your email address, and I’ll add you to one of the 1,000 beta slots so long as some are available.

Once you’re in the beta, you’ll need to download TestFlight from the App Store.

Please send me as much feedback as humanly possible about any bugs you encounter or suggestions for features that you’d absolutely love to see in the app.

The goal is to have a real release in the App Store by May.

I cant download the app :/ the appstore says its bot available anymoore :(

Listenr was removed from the App Store because I did not pay the $100 fee to retain my Apple Developer License. It costs $100 a year to keep an application in the store!

We will renew the Developer License shortly and begin work on a new version of Listenr suitable for iOS 7 and the larger iPhone screen size.

I can't even play a single audio post without the app crashing anymore, is that ever going to change? :(

So sorry. Tumblr recently changed their API in a way that broke the application. Just submitted a patch to the App Store. Hopefully it'll be in your hands in a few days. Hold tight until then.

Is there a version of Listenr you can use on your computer, not on your iPhone/iPod?

Not yet! But with projects like Chameleon, maybe someday.

Now that's what I call a Tumblr Tuesday.

Listenr 1.4 is a bit more than just bugfixes though. Large swaths of the app have been rewritten to take advantage of the new Tumblr API.

The most notable addition in this release is native reblogging support.

Also, a brief note on streaming problems and crashes: up until now, I've been using the wonderful AudioStreamer Class written by Matt Gallagher for audio playback, but I've realized over the past few months that this solution is inadequate for Listenr's needs. I'm now in the process of rewriting the audio streaming portion of the app from scratch and will hopefully be done soon.

One last thing: I'm looking to start translating Listenr into different languages. If any users out there are fluent in another language, I'd love your help. Send an email or Tumblr Message my way.

That's right. I've decided to make the app free for the time being. The plan is to add some super awesome paid features in upcoming releases, but the core functionality of Listenr will remain available pro bono. Much thanks to everyone who supported me by purchasing the app over the last few months. Now on to the new features:

The two big ones this time are Last.fm Scrobbling and Search. Also, all avatars and post metadata is stored locally on your phone, so this should result in a snappier experience.

To enable Last.fm scrobbling, just head on over to the Settings App, and under Listenr, flip the switch to ON. The next time you open the app, you'll be asked once for your credentials. Rest assured, Listenr never stores your Last.fm password.
