Anyone wanna grab some coffee?
“Well neither am I so I wouldn’t worry about it too much,” Azrael smiled lightly, hoping the Leo would relax around her a bit more. It wasn’t like the girl was acting panicked or anything, but Az could tell she didn’t feel very comfortable at the moment. The look in her eye was flighty. And it wasn’t like the angel blamed her…but it still didn’t feel great to know she’d lost Leo’s trust after wanting to help her so badly. At least Nysos had gotten an earful, Az just hoped he’d listen to her about this kind of thing for now on instead of running off and scaring the crap out of people.
Az followed Leo into the cafe, the smell of coffee and baked goods immediately putting her at ease. “Hmm…caramel macchiato. I have an addiction to the stuff,” she laughed lightly before nodding and heading over to find an empty table. She took a seat, watching Leo as the girl took their orders. Just give her some time…Azrael told herself, running a hand through her hair.
She watched the coffee overflow slightly into the ridges of the lid as she headed to the back of the cafĂ©, the last window seat open. The place was pretty crowded, good. She couldn’t stand when every word you said was like an announcement to the whole place. Conversations would blur together and their voices would disappear into the background noise. Truthfully, she was happy they ended up here, talking over coffee was one thing, but a one on one, face to face talk was another. She sighed softly, feeling her muscles finally start to relax. This would be easy, just don’t over think it, this is a casual talk over coffee, nothing more.    But deep down Leo knew there was something more to it. Az was hiding something, maybe hiding was the wrong word, but after everything that happened, she knew there must be more to her story. Too many things had fallen together when they shouldn’t have, and where did he fit into all of it. She was hungry for answers, but she wouldn’t let on, not just yet. This was a casual talk over coffee right?     “Caramel Macchiato,” Her voice was light as she set the cup down in front of Az and took a seat. “You know, this place reminds me of a coffee shop my mom used to take us to get hot chocolate as a kid, I don’t know, there’s just something about it.” She shifted in her seat and crossed her legs, taking a sip, “I wasn’t always this girl, I mean,” she paused and licked her lips,” The Leo you know.” She didn’t know why she started off with this, but the words kept coming, “I used to be a small town girl, from Pacific Grove, north of here. I used to live in a beach house, and the sea was my backyard.” She smiled as the thought rolled through her mind like camera film, “It was good then, easy, you know? That was before I started setting fires, and therapy and before the divorce, but that’s life right?” She set her cup down, tapping her nails softly on the side of it, “So, Where are you from exactly? I feel like I don’t know anything about you.” She kept her tone cheery, but she was fighting for a world of truth just beyond her reach.Â
