the misogyny in this fandom shows up in ways that are more subtle than just straight up “I HATE WOMEN”

it shows in the way laurance and garroth are praised and love for being charlatans and casanovas, for having women pine after them but turn around and think it is weird and gross that the same thing happened to aphmau, but with the opposite gender ie male attention rather than female attention.

it comes in the way kim is repeatedly bashed and treated as a useless worthless character because people believe a character like, lets say laurance for the sake of this example, should have taken her place instead. it shows in the way people worry more about dantes honor and character and how nicole is horrible for not saying anything about their child even though dante was the one that left. it shows in the way travis has always been held in a higher esteem than katelyn, both in mcd and in mystreet. it shows in the way michi is universally hated by everyone for the stalking, for the black mail, for the harrasment, but when a character like gene or ein do the same they are forgiven and it is watered down to them just being complex and traumatized characters who deep inside are good people. it shows in how zane is labeled a complex villain in mcd, but ivy is considered evil and horrible and a two dimensional villain.

just stop, pause for a moment and think about the drastic difference this fandom treats male characters, versus female characters.

Also, misoginy can even be seen in which female characters are liked and why.

Lucinda and Sasha are both universally loved, yet they're complexities are entirely ignored. I made a post about this before so I'll just put the screenshots here.

The female characters that are liked aren't seen as complex characters. Rather just hot badasses.

Noone ever talks about their tragedy, their complexities. Their struggles.

The moment we talk about tragedy in mcd characters it's only ever about men. Not about Sasha, Katelyn, Emmalyn or Cadenza.

You CAN hate a female character, you can hate them without even having a reason. But it's this pattern that is so concerning. It's this double standard that's the problem.

It is a little sad to me that, in my opinion, the only reason Kim was the one chosen to go to the lodge was because she was a new enough character they could get away with perma-trapping her with ghost without fandom outrage

I think one of my random obscure but weirdly well received posts was me saying I’ll defend aphmau until I die because self-sacrificial girlies stick together, and I stand by that. I also had some cannibalism shit in the tags because it’s me but

I’m genuine when I say that Aph is a character I defend to my grave and I have to hold myself back every time I see unfounded crit of her.

Even when I see people complain about her harem, I wonder why they’re so okay with the fact that Laur and Garroth are canonically womanisers and have so many women pine after them, but the moment that Aphmau’s male friends, people who she has built these insanely strong bonds with, fall into genuine love with her as a person because of her kindness, there’s a problem.

Every time I see people say ‘she should’ve ended up with Garroth’ or Laur or whatever the fuck I scream and rip my skin off because SHE DIDNT WANT YO. SHE NEVER WANTED TO. And everyone forgets that. It wasn’t until MCD Season 2 that she begins to consider that she could have something romantic with either of them, and even then, she’s having to think about if that’s something she genuinely wants because she’s never considered wanting it before.

She has these options of these two extremely jealous men, and she picks the man who almost died to bring back a man who she cared deeply and fondly for. Like is there criticism to be had of Aarmau? Yes… but the fact that Aphmau ended up with someone who was not those two is not it. She deserved better, she got better.

And there more I can say but the love interest stuff alone… it’s all so Gar & Laur centric I go crazy. But what about her? It’s HER LOVE LIFE

Do you think Laurance saw his Aphmau covered in these black and purple void burns after failing to open the Irene Dimension portal and he remembered the other Aphmau

Do you think since there was no magic in Void Paradox and there was no easy cure, that she would be like this until she died?

Do you think he was scared that she wouldn’t wake up again? That the void burns had already covered too much of her body?

Do you think he was afraid that if she did wake up, she wouldn’t be herself? Like how the other Aphmau woke up with black eyes and inhuman strength, trying to strangle him in his most vulnerable moments?

I understand the people who dislike the style shown for s7, but I cannot understand people saying they won't watch the season if it has that style. Like idk maybe it's just me, but I've watched shows with styles I dislike?? I'm not saying anyone should be forced to watch the show, but bad animation really isn't gonna ruin a piece of media for me
