Opposites attract, right?🤭
I don't know if anyone has asked this before, but I must ask!!!
I've just started playing the demo and learning more about many of the characters- is Dr. Drayne inspired by Jonathan Crane from DC? He's my favourite character ever and I can't help but notice how similar they are!!
Love the game so much so far :-) it's so incredible!!!
He's not based on Jonathan Crane! The actual answer is much more silly. He's based on nerdy British comedian David Mitchell (of "are we the baddies" fame), and the absurd idea of "what if he were not a tremendous nerd," which is where Lord Luridus comes from.
All characters in Vampire Therapist are punchlines first before they become characters!
Only this time it’s not a joke, and they actually do share the same voice actor!
You may know Cyrus Nemati as the voice of Sam Walls, Dr. Drayne, Edmund Kean, and Andromachos, but did you know he also voices Maxi (with the help of some audio processing)? The more you know✨
Vampire Therapist as fragrantica perfume notes🧛
(Intern had to resist the urge to include the blood note for every character)
(Intern also needs a fragrance that smells like Dr. Drayne… for science reasons)
We think they might like Vampire Therapist. 🤔
If you liked Vampire Therapist too, please leave a review on Steam! We’re a small indie company, so every review means the world to us!🙏 🖤
1 minute of Sam being our favorite horse-lovin' himbo 🐴
How do vampire eyes work? Sam’s eyes are the classic red, while Andy’s are yellow, Dwayne’s are blue, mevh has multicolored eyes? Do they have the same eyes they had while alive or how do they get their eye color?
Oh! This is a great question. Superficially, aesthetics have a lot to do with it. We work within a simple art style and try to magnify everything: Andromachos has a very clear "hunting cat" aesthetic, so we lean into it and give him the yellow eyes. We like to let art breathe and then deconstruct it afterward, which is where the writing comes in and we have to answer excellent and uncomfortable questions like "why is it like that". 😁
But we say in our world that vampires are not soulless, so perhaps the eyes are still the clearest window to the soul, even more after death: Andromachos will always be the hunting beast. Sam will always have the hungry frontier spirit. Meddy will always go in her wild and lonely ways.
Isabella is for the perfectionist art girlies ONLY. 💅
Did you know that Isabella d'Este is a real historical figure? We read over 20,000 translated letters (available here) to perfect her character (we wanted to live up to her standards). If you're a history nerd like we are — or just like powerful women — play Vampire Therapist to learn more about her! 🦇
How do we feel about vampire therapist OCs? Any tips or pointers you'd like to give? :p
Oh gosh, we just found the "questions" section of Tumblr! This might be a little late, but...
We love Vampire Therapist OCs! One of the nice things about our world is that any historical era or character can always fit in, and our central thesis is that humans have not changed in the last several thousand years (evolution takes time!).
One of our favorite tricks is just reading material from the time. Learn how people speak, what they care about, what they believe in (or must pretend to believe in). Every human, mortal or not, wishes to be perceived a certain way, and the best way to know what that desired perception is is simply to look it up. :)
Hi!
I was replaying the game recently and something stuck with me that I glossed over originally, and I was wondering if you could help out. In his first session, Drayne mentions a familiar. I was curious if, in Vampire Therapist, the lore of the familiars is different than in usual vampire lore, or is it more or less the same?
Also, out of curiosity, was there ever a point in the game's development where you gave any thought to Drayne's first name, or was he always just existing as doctor Drayne in your mind?
Thanks in advance, I loved Vampire Therapist with my whole heart, it's one of my favorite games ever and I can't wait for Better Than Us to come out (and Vampire Therapist 2, hopefully).
Cheers!!
Thank you for the kind words! We can say with certainty that Vampire Therapist 2 is our next game after Better Than Us, so that should inspire a little joy. :) We've also got a smaller VT thing in the works.
So our familiars are pretty similar to what exists in other vampire lore. Crimson is theoretically a familiar. I know we can be oddly selective about our vampire lore, but we try to give everything a biological or sociological purpose, and if we can't find one, we make fun of it. For instance, the "a vampire must be invited in" trope, we don't use — it runs counter to the entire purpose of the vampire of the Creature That Takes — it sins *for* us so we don't have to.
The "familiar" in our case is literal: it can mean anyone who is aware of a vampire's nature, and since they are still alive with this knowledge, they become "familiar". Basically, in order for a mortal to live with the vampiric secret, there needs to be *some* sort of arrangement … either a blood pact or some other intimate deal.
Dr. Drayne still doesn't have a first name, but he will soon! We often don't have our names set until quite late, as the characters' purposes become fleshed out and they earn their names.
Crawling out of hibernation to post this sexy vampire man!! I was locked tf in until 3 am redrawing his in-game portrait lol I need him biblically
Money Maketh the God
On the 12th of April in the year of some peoples' Lord 2026, Donald Trump, then the duly elected President of the United States posted this AI-generated image of himself.
Despite his denials, this is clearly Trump as Jesus Christ, a popular deity you might have heard of. There are lots of movies about him, if you're not interested in the books.
You might be a little shocked at this image, but Donald Trump is actually following a very rich tradition of the extremely rich depicting themselves as gods or god-adjacents. He is following the ancient Worthington's Law, which states:
It's not a real metaphysical law, but rather a concept from a Gen X sketch show, but the rule seems to be accurate when applied to the ultra-wealthy. And if you're really wealthy, you can join the pantheon of the gods!
This is Albrecht of Brandenburg, who might look a little familiar when compared to the President. Look at those lips!
He was the Archbishop of Mainz and Magdeburg in the early 1500s. He held these archbishoprics at the age of 20, which means that either he was an incredibly deep and theologically wise fellow at a tender age, or that he perhaps did not earn his position legitimately.
Spoiler: it's the latter. Albrecht borrowed the equivalent of $19 million in today's dollars to buy himself his second archbishopric. It doesn't sound like much, but at the time, it was an absolutely absurd amount of money. Albrecht was already from the embarrassingly wealthy Hohenzollern family which has several castles throughout Germany, and buying positions was something of a family business. He and his brother Joachim bribed themselves into positions of high political and moral authority, so naturally, they had to ensure they were seen as worthy.
Once you have so much money and power, it starts to go to your head, and it's not enough to be rich and powerful: you have to become sanctified, otherwise, how are you worth all that money and power? Art can be a tool of divine sanction in politics, as we can see below.
This is Albrecht hanging out with Jesus. It bears noting that while Jesus is having a pretty bad time, Albrecht looks very comfortable and warm in his flowing ecclesiastical robe. And this is no pieta -- Albrecht is looking at Christ's knees and doesn't appear to be too bothered.
This is Albrecht as Saint Jerome, also known as the author of the Vulgate Bible -- the Catholic Bible since the 4th century CE. The suggestion is clear: "I am as much an authority on the Bible as the person who wrote it."
This is a fun one. Albrecht as Saint Martin, known for his poverty, piety, and care for the poor. Being bedecked in gold, pearls, and jewels is a bit of an odd choice, the greedy heart wants what the greedy heart wants.
It's no great revelation to say that history repeats itself, but when it does so explicitly and so absurdly, it's hard not to draw parallels. Albrecht strongly inspired a character in our upcoming game, Better Than Us (wishlist it!). You can see him here!
We're taking a deep dive into the lives of the ultra-rich in Better Than Us, and how they choose to depict themselves is an integral part of the story.
The point is, though: politicians depicting themselves as deities is nothing new. Louis XIV identified directly with Apollo. Roman emperors and Egyptian kings were deified through office. Even in secular portraiture, democratic leaders like George Washington are painted in the same form as Greek and Christian celestial hosts. Donald Trump is merely following in a time-honored tradition of self-deification, only now, artists are not paid to create this kind of propaganda since AI will do the work.
However old the method is, though, it is no more legitimate now than it was in the ancient world. When a mortal depicts themselves as a deity, you can bet that what they really are is a dumbass.
Which is why we're making a game about stealing from them.

Designing "Better Than Us"
Greetings, children of the night! Since the release of Vampire Therapist: Couples Therapy, we've been hard at work on our new revealed project, Better Than Us.
Better Than Us is a social stealth game where you'll spin a web of lies to infiltrate parties full of the wealthiest and worst people on earth. Set in the year 2200, long after the dark powers of extractive capitalism have taken their toll on the planet, you'll play a clever, charming thief with no respect for the "great" minds who have taken over the world with new extractive technology and artificial intelligence.
And trust us: these are villains as complicated as the ones you've come to expect from Little Bat Games. Watching a few people with comically outsized wealth seize control led us to explore times in history where wealth inequality was as extreme as it is now, and what we discovered were some terrifying stories of political, spiritual, and business leaders doing very bad things.
Better Than Us is a tale for our delicate time in human history, so we reached out to academics from top universities to help us untangle complex threads of influence, power, and dirty deeds going back hundreds of years. As with Vampire Therapist, we get a lot of excitement out of discovering that the stories we think are brand new have been told numerous times before. History shows us what's happened: it's up to us to decide if we're going to repeat it.
We took our design inspiration from hyper-luxury hotels in OPEC countries, resplendent with gold and pearl and cobalt blue (cobalt being a precious metal these days), and after studying long-term climate theory, we decided to take them out to sea (that's where some theorists say we'll end up when the waters rise). It helped us land on a unique aesthetic of absurd opulence and to find the comedy in extreme wealth.
This was our first concept of the big reception room where you'll start probing your mega-billionaire targets.
We found video guides like this one instrumental in our design for all the right/wrong reasons! Over the next few months, we'll be revealing more about the cast of characters drawn from history that you'll be interacting with. Yes, Better Than Us is a sci-fi game set in the future, but if we've learned anything from our work on Vampire Therapist, it's that it isn't just war that never changes — it's people, too.
And don't worry, Vampire Therapist fans... we've got a returning character in Isabella d'Este, and you'll get to meet her naughty little boy, Federico!
Just finished the game and dlc , and by gods, I absolutely adore this game. Got it on sale because the title and art interested me, could never of expected I would be teary eyed, staring into the rolling credit screen . I think its helped irl me too. I find myself catching distortions in the way I talk about myself. I reached out to an acquaintance that I judged too harshly before, and they’re actually really nice. I have just a little more caution when it comes to the content I consume.
Anyways just wanted to say this game is awesome, thank you for being cool, and I will 100% buy the sequel as soon as it comes out.
( Also as someone who has struggled with accepting their own kinks , thank you for the healthy representation of consent. AAA games could never)
Thank you so much for the kind words! We were really trying to make it clear that we none of us have taken to the world we've created easily (except for investment bankers), so we're honored the message got through. 💕 And here's to being kink-friendly in the 21st century!
Revolutionary Love
Hey Tumblr! It's been a while since we posted, but we recently released Vampire Therapist: Couples Therapy, an expansion to our critical hit, Vampire Therapist, and thought we should talk about it here!
Vampire Therapist - Couples Therapy on Steam
In Couples Therapy, you'll help a pair of lovers who both didn't survive historical revolutions.
Antoine-François Momoro (we call him Momo) was a key figure in the French revolution, distributing the rebel newspaper, La Pere Duschene. He was instrumental in spreading the message of the revolution, but was something of an egomaniac.
Reza Houshmanzadeh is an original character based on several archetypes from the 1979 Iranian revolution, which was orchestrated by a broad coalition of freedom fighters, many of which had opposing goals.
If you'd like to get into the history of these revolutions, recommended reading is Alexis de Tocqueville's The Ancien Régime and the Revolution and Iran: A Modern History.
But onto the good stuff! After reading about Momo's history, we were amused by his obsession with "reason". When the French Revolution ended, Momo took over Notre Dame cathedral to stage a "Festival of Reason", where his own wife was crowned as goddess in mockery of the recently deposed church authority. With this kind of attitude, we knew we had to make him a bit silly.
This is his portrait, but we had to deviate from it... a little.
While we always love to pay homage to history at Little Bat Games, we value our jokes first, which is why we went with a combination of 18th century French fashion mixed with Peter Jackonsesque Lord of the Rings elves. Obviously not Rings of Power, because that show sucks hard.
Look how smug he is. Isn't he great?
For Reza, we went straight for the source — 1970s Iranian fashion. At the time, Iran was a highly westernized society with few limitations on free expression. United States styles were common, mixed with characteristic Iranian flair.
Bell-bottoms, sideburns, and displayed masculinity were very much the order of the day, and they helped inform Reza's character. Clothes doth make the man, as Homer once said. Not those words exactly.
You can see Reza's evolution into the hunky fellow who needs our love!
He's a little grumpy, but wouldn't you be if your government shot you to death?
If you've played Couples Therapy already, let us know what you think! And if you want to share the love, you can now buy the Vampire Therapist Complete Edition bundle for your friends. 😁It includes the main game and its three free content updates and Couples Therapy at a discounted price.

Hi! I beat Vampire Therapist's main game for the first time last night, and I just wanted to say thank you! It's such a lovely story and the arcs for all the characters were so brilliantly done. And the ending!!!! I was screaming the whole time, I loved it! Few games have made me laugh so hard or made me so genuinely emotional. It's an amazing balance.
Thank you for the kind words! Talking about the Really Difficult Problems isn't easy, so doing it with a laugh is important. If we take ourselves too seriously, how are we going to enjoy the time we've got? <3
What shoes does Sam wear? Trying to find references to draw fan art I realised almost none of the characters have their feet on screen.
Hah! We don't know either, we've never seen them. ☺️ I like to imagine he's always wearing his leather boots and spurs, but since they're not depicted, Air Jordans, high heels, and bunny slippers are all possibilities!
