Girl Scouts® branch out with the Go for Bold™ Money Tree

To practice their money skills, girls can leap on over to the Go for Bold Money Tree to get the pretend cash they’ll need for playing Girl Scout Cookie Sale®.  

Supplies:

Artificial potted tree/plant or construction paper to create your own tree

Girl Scout Cookie money template 

Directions:  

Set up your rally station with either an artificial potted tree, or create one of your own on the wall with construction paper.  

Print out the money template and cut out the cash. Fold the money in half (to hide its value), and attach it like leaves to the tree branches.  

Teach girls how to make change by inviting them to play a game. Let them take turns pulling money off the tree and using it to purchase pretend cookies at another girl’s cookie booth. Girls will learn how much each cookie variety costs, as well as how to make change for their customers!

There’s no better way to kick off a Girl Scouts® Cookie Games™ rally than with an inspiring cheer. Download this plug-and-play script that welcomes girls to the rally and sets the scene for a fun day of learning.

The script focuses on Girl Scout Cookie Season basics and can be customized for your council. Add topics of interest to pump up the fun and get your Girl Scouts excited. You can even pass them the mic and invite top sellers to introduce this year’s mascot—the brave and bold clouded leopard!

On the Hunt for Selfies

Set up photo opportunities at your Girl Scouts® Cookie Games™ rally to inspire girl engagement.

Girls love to engage in scavenger hunts at rallies. Put a new twist on the traditional game by making it a selfie scavenger hunt!

As the rally begins, challenge girls to find unique photo stations or booths positioned around the rally. Throughout the event, girls can take selfies at the designated photo op spots. At the close of the rally, girls can show off all the pictures they took during the day and receive a small prize or rally patch as a reward.  

Need some photo station inspiration? Here are a few simple ways to create selfie-worthy backdrops:

Shower curtains make fabulous backdrops. There are all sorts of themed designs online that are easy to hang using the following ideas.  

Set up a photo backdrop stand and use it to hang your backdrop. (Search the internet for “photo backdrop stand” to discover several affordable, portable stands.)

Set up a backdrop in a doorway or window using an adjustable curtain rod.

Prop a poster on an easel.

Tape wrapping paper, a plastic tablecloth or other backdrop to a wall.

Designate an area with a blanket or floor rug (this can be in addition to your backdrop).

TIP: To display girls’ photos in real time, set up a screen that shows social media posts with specific hashtags and invite participants to be Girl Scout Cookie all-stars. Encourage older girls and/or volunteers to post their pictures throughout the rally for their time in the spotlight!

Accessorize in true troop fashion

Collect for the troops, or a different cause, in military style with these customizable dog tags. One side will showcase your chosen Girl Scouts Gift of Caring cause, and the other side will display your goal. 

Supplies: 

Blank dog tags (with rolled edges)

Sheets of sticker paper

Dog tag clip art stickers

Markers

Safety pins or ribbon

Instructions:

Print the dog tag clip art onto the sticker paper sheets.  

Decorate the stickers with markers and fill in your Girl Scouts Gift of Caring cause and package goal where prompted.  

Place the Gift of Caring goal sticker on the front of the dog tag and the package goal sticker on the back. Use the other stickers for extra dog tags or decorations as you'd like.  

TIP: Transform it to a necklace with some ribbon or use a safety pin to attach it to girls' Bold Medal ribbons.

Showcase the NEW Girl Scout S'mores® packages

Shine the spotlight on the new Girl Scout S'mores® packaging at this year's booth sales! The cookies will stand proudly in this DIY cookie package display, making it easy for customers to find their newest favorite in the Girl Scout Cookie lineup.  

Supplies:

Shoebox

Girl Scout S'mores clip art

Scissors

Glue

Markers

Directions:

Make a flap on one of the ends of an empty shoebox. Make two cuts at the top, about an inch in from either side. Cut 2/3 of the way down and fold the middle down to create the flap.  

Print the Girl Scout S'mores clip art and cut it out. Glue them to the outside of the shoebox to cover it with fun decorations. Use markers and other decorations to really make your showcase pop!

Arrange packages of Girl Scout S'mores in the box on their sides, so that the top label faces out to the customers. Display it with pride at your cookie booth and watch the cookies fly right out of the box!

Stop customers in their tracks with Stop Sign Danglers

Supplies:

Octagon-shaped tiles (available at most hardware stores)

Paper clips

Ribbon

Permanent markers

Hot glue gun (for pre-cookie rally prep)

Directions:

Before the rally begins, an adult should hot glue paper clips to the back of the tiles, leaving ¼ inch above the tile for the ribbon to go through.  

Decorate the tiles with permanent markers. Choose one of the suggested messages or put your creativity cap on and write one of your own!

Thread the ribbon through the end of the paper clip and tie the ends together.  

Once it’s all done, you can hang it on your backpack, bag or purse to let customers know that you’re selling their all-time favorite cookies!

Give your cookie customers a sign!

These high-flying signs will tell your cookie customers exactly where to find you.

Supplies:

White Mylar balloons (round and/or star shaped)

Permanent markers

Ribbon

Helium

Optional: glitter, foam stickers or other decorations

Optional: dowel rods

Instructions:

Decorate the flat, unfilled Mylar balloons with permanent markers. Write custom cookie messages, draw original doodles or anything else you like! You can also use glitter, foam stickers or other materials to decorate your balloons.  

Once you have completed your designs, have an adult fill the balloon with helium.  

When the balloon is full, tie the ribbon around the bottom of the balloon to finish it.

Optional: For a unique balloon display, you could also tie a thin dowel rod to the balloon instead of the ribbon.

Get social with Go for Bold™ Message Boards

Spread the word about the upcoming season by hosting a selfie station with custom Girl Scout Cookie messages.

Supplies:

Selfie station backdrop  

Smartphone or camera

Sample message boards

Directions:

Set up a selfie station at your rally with a bold backdrop and props. Showcase the quote bubble white board from the Girl Rewards program to help girls craft cookie messages to post on social media*.

Invite girls to write out their own Girl Scout Cookie Season statement or use one of these sample messages to pose for a photo op. (Display the sample message boards at your event to provide girls with ideas).

Girls who are old enough to engage with their customers on social media can post their selfie at the start of the cookie season to promote Girl Scout Cookies® to their whole network*.

COUNCILS: Send out post-rally reminders to girls at the start of cookie season, reminding them to post their photo messages that they created at the rally!

*Please review current or updated Girl Scouts® safety resources before posting on social media. Girls should also follow Girl Scouts guidelines when sharing their Digital Cookie® site with friends and family.

Celebrate her bold spirit with Empowerment Platters

Embrace the empowering leadership traits girls develop in the Girl Scout Cookie Program® with a cookie platter that highlights each girl’s unique entrepreneurial strengths.    

Supplies:

Clear plastic plates

Clear contact paper

Platter clip art

Word bank (below)

Scissors

Markers

Directions:

Cut a circle out of contact paper that is about the same size as the bottom of the clear plastic plate.  

Decorate the sticky side of the contact paper circle using clip art, markers or any other decorations you like. Make sure the designs face up. See the word bank for inspiration.

Stick the contact paper to the bottom of the clear plate so the design shows through to the top.  

Decorate the bottom side of the outer rim of the plate with markers, glitter glue, etc. to make the empowerment platter as bold as your Girl Scouts!

Note: Remember to keep all decorations on the bottom of the plate, so that you can keep the top side safe to use as a cookie platter. Clean the top side of the platter with food-safe food surface wipes between uses. Do not submerge in water.

Calling all Girl Scouts® Cookie Captains™!

The Girl Scouts Cookie Program® gives girls great opportunities for service experiences, which also look impressive on college résumés.  

Offer teens the chance to earn official certification as a Girl Scouts Cookie Captain and encourage them to volunteer to guide a young troop or work at a cookie rally for younger girls.

Go mobile with Cookies on the Go

Girl Scout Cookie sales are going way beyond the booth this Go for Bold™ season!  

Inspire girls to come up with creative ways to hit their goals by sharing this video, “Just Like Takeout.” It features a troop that reached their overall goal by setting up a drive-thru cookie booth.  

Encourage girls to brainstorm their own mobile booth strategies with this Cookies on the Go planner. Could they set up shop at a local sporting event? Open a food truck at a popular park? * Just be sure girls plan to get proper approval to sell at their chosen locations, and then watch their ingenuity shine! 

*Remember to clearly mark your car with Girl Scout signage so customers know who you are.

Cookie boss to corner office

The skills teens learn through the Girl Scout Cookie Program® set them up to succeed! As an extra perk, Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can list their Girl Scout experiences on their résumés to highlight their leadership skills.

You can also encourage them to follow the Girl Scout Network™ LinkedIn page for inspiration and support. They can connect with fellow alums, find career-enhancing advice and learn about a world of budding opportunities.  

If your girls don’t have LinkedIn accounts or know how to use it, don’t worry! LinkedIn has partnered with Girl Scouts to provide a list of tips and best practices for getting started. Girls can follow the step-by-step instructions to create profiles as bold as they are.

Boost your sale with selfies

Use the power of selfies to market your sale on social media!

Supplies:

Professional backdrop

Props (such as cookie boxes)

Wardrobe (Girl Scout uniform, Girl Scout branded shirt or business attire)

Smartphone or camera

Directions:  

Encourage girls to experiment with a more professional look by taking photos of one another in front of a business-appropriate backdrop.  

Pro photo tips:  

Use backgrounds such as a solid curtain, blank wall or attractive brick wall. Avoid backgrounds like busy walls and cinderblock walls.  

Well-lit areas with natural light behind the photographer (not behind the subject) will produce the best results.

Think about how girls can frame their shot. Remind them that simple adjustments like turning their shoulders at an angle or tilting their head can make a big difference. 

Encourage them to wear Girl Scout attire or professional attire.

Don’t forget the Girl Scout Cookies®! If girls are old enough to engage with their customers on social media, they can hold boxes of cookies in their photo and set it as their profile picture. That way, they can let everyone in their network of friends and family know it’s Girl Scout Cookie Season!

Phone the orders in with Pitch Practice Cup Phones

Take a step back in time as girls practice their cookie sales pitches with these retro cup phones.

Supplies:

Two paper cups

One 10-foot string

Small screwdriver, drill bit or plastic upholstery needle

Pitch Practice Cup Phone clip art

Pitch script (Tip: Make one here!)

Scissors

Glue

Markers

Directions:

An adult helper or volunteer should prepare the cups by punching a hole in the bottom of the cups. They can be done one at a time, by hand with a small screw driver, drill bit or upholstery needle, or you can stack a few together and run a drill through all of them at once. Note: Make sure the hole won’t be too big that the knot in the string slides through.

Thread each end of the string through the holes in two cups. Tie a knot on both ends of the string and pull the cups to opposite ends.

Decorate the cups with Girl Scout Cookie-themed clip art and other fun stickers.

Use the pitch script to come up with a tried-and-true cookie pitch. Two girls use the cup phones to act out the cookie sale.

TIP: Be sure to hold the string taut and straight, and avoid extending the string around corners for best reception.

Just spotted: A Safety Spots Puppet!

Girls will learn the basics of a safe Girl Scout Cookie Sale® with this clouded leopard paper bag puppet.

Supplies:

Brown paper bags

Safety Spots template

Scissors

Glue stick

Optional: pipe cleaner and tape

Directions:

Print the Safety Spots template and cut out the mascot’s friendly features.

Glue them onto the paper bag to make a puppet.

Optional: Curl the end of a pipe cleaner and tape or glue it onto the back of the puppet to make a tail.

Girls can use the finished craft to learn safe-selling tips.
