Leaning into the soft touch to her cheek, Tasha smiled warmly at her girlfriend, lips pressing to her palm sweetly. “You look way better than Naomi Smalls…” she chuckled, fingers lightly pressing into Maddie’s skin as she tugged her a little closer. “I like your impulses,” the redhead breathed softly, glad that she’d come home to something like this rather than having to keep listening to her patients for the day.
“Oh you could totally be a badass,” the older woman laughed, resting her chin on Maddie’s small shoulder, blue eyes running over their reflection in appreciation. “I missed you too,” she replied gently, and at the question Tasha slumped down a little, sighing somewhat sadly. “It’s nothing, just…patient stuff.” She mumbled, kissing Maddie’s shoulder again as she pulled away from her to put on something more comfortable. She couldn’t exactly talk about the issues; but she didn’t want it to seem like she was pushing Maddie away. “People are sad. Makes me sad.” She shrugged once, unbuttoning her blouse.
“You think so?” Maddie asked with a little giggle. “Her stomach is way flatter than mine. And her legs could kick a hole through the sun.” She bit her lip and tilted her head a little, her nails gently scratching along Tasha’s arms as she was pulled even closer. “Yeah you usually do, don’t you?” Maddie hummed. But when Tasha pulled away, she sighed a little, wondering if maybe she should’ve left it alone. She knew her girlfriend couldn’t really talk about her patients, but she wished she could be some sort of outlet.
“I’m sorry, honey..” Maddie said softly as she sat on the edge of Tasha’s bed. She was often pretty open for her friends, but her friends’ issues were usually things she’d heard before. Tasha, however, heard things that could break someone’s heart every single day. It always seemed like so much for one person. “You help people every day,” she sighed, reaching out to finish Tasha’s buttons and help pull the fabric off her body. “It’s what I love most about you.” Maddie pulled the woman close by her hips and gently kissed her stomach. “How can I make you happy, love? You deserve it too..”

“Milk,” Vincent answered simply, turning back to his cartoons with the kitten sleeping soundly in his lap. Tasha laughed, pulling away from Maddie as she went to go get dressed. Tasha began to unpack her groceries, and once she was finished and Maddie hadn’t returned, the redhead crossed her way to her bedroom to watch the now dark haired woman dress. “So what brought on the big change?” She asked curiously, taking a step inside her bedroom.
Her arms came around Maddie’s bare stomach and pulled her back against her, kissing her shoulder lightly. “You kind of look like a total badass,” the doctor purred in her ear, chuckling darkly as her fingers danced across soft skin. Eyes flickering to the mirror, Tasha took in the contrast of their hair colors, giggling in amusement.
When Maddie was done with her hair, she hung up her robe and changed into underwear and a bra before putting on a pair of Tasha’s sweatpants. And when she heard the woman walk in the room, she smirked a little with a chuckle. “Well,” she started, crossing her arms over her girlfriend’s as the came around her body. “I was talking about how good Naomi Smalls’ long black wig looked, and it was kind of all impulse from there..”
She’d been waiting hours for Tasha’s approval, and her compliments were making Maddie feel warm. “A what?? No no, I don’t know how to be a bad ass. Don’t set me up to disappoint..” Looking at their reflection, she smiled as she reached up to cup Tasha’s cheek gently. “I missed you,” she said softly, stroking the redhead’s skin with her thumb. “Talk to me about today, baby. You looked bothered when I asked about it.”

It took Tasha a moment to adjust to it, but once she really looked Maddie over, she couldn’t help but be more attracted to the girl - it didn’t hurt that she was just wearing a robe. Stepping forward, Tasha took hold of the lapels of her robe, pulling her closer to kiss her softly. “You look beautiful, Maddie.” She offered with a smile, fingers coming up to play with a strand of black hair - it contrasted so beautifully against Maddie’s pale skin.
“Did you have fun, baby?” She called out to her son, not breaking eye contact with her girlfriend as she smirked. Vincent turned around from his place on the couch, finger to his lips, “Shh. ‘Laska’s sleeping.” The boy lisped, petting the top of the kittens head as she purred happily in his lap. Tasha chuckled at that, looking at the slightly discolored water that settled on her finger from Maddie’s hair.
Maddie grinned, sure her cheeks would be pink for the rest of the day. Upon looking in the mirror for the first time, she wasn’t so sure if she liked it. Dark hair reminded her of being called names or waking up to S-L-U-T spraypainted on her locker; of bloody noses and toilet-water soaked textbooks. But now, all she had when she looked around was the people she loved the most, and back then, she never could’ve dreamed of being as happy as she was now.
“Thank you, love..” she hummed, unable to help the laugh at Vincent’s quiet protest. He was her little best friend, and being able to spend so much time with him meant a lot to her. “What do you think she’s dreaming about, mate?” Maddie asked him curiously over her shoulder before turning back to Tasha with a soft giggle. “I’m gonna go get dressed, okay?” she said, heading into her girlfriend’s bedroom to pick out clothes and dry her hair quickly, only to put it into a messy bun.

Tasha had noticed a shift in mood in her girlfriend, and was incredibly thankful for it. It pained her to see the blonde in such a bad state; and there being almost nothing she could do about it. But the days were getting brighter; things were returning back to normal. “A day.” She nodded once in confirmation, but she wasn’t letting that bring her spirits down. “But it just turned into a great day.” She smiled, kissing Maddie softly.
“Oh?” The redhead quirked a brow, setting the ingredients down for the dinner Maddie and Vincent had requested, back turned to her girlfriend. When she turned around again, she was met with what she was sure an illusion - Maddie’s hair was dark as night. Tasha’s jaw fell open a little, completely unsure of what to say. “Wha - …?” It took her a few moments to gather her thoughts. Admittedly, she missed the blonde - it made Maddie look innocent and playful, but the black just…she looked so mature. “You - …” Blinking a few times, Tasha cleared her throat. “I like this very much.”
When Tasha’s face blanket, Maddie’s heart dropped a little. The woman hated it, and blonde-to-black wasn’t exactly something that could be reversed easily. “Oh no,” she breathed out, about to blabber about how bleach could work wonders, but then her girlfriend’s expression changed a bit, and she then realized that maybe the impression she got wasn’t the right one.
“Wait...really..?” Maddie asked, her lips slowly turning into a smile as her cheeks pinkened. She shuffled her feet a little bashfully, tugging the robe tighter. “Well, I mean it is closer to my natural color..” she shrugged, more than happy that her girlfriend didn’t hate it. Not that she needed her approval to change herself, but she still loved that Tasha thought it looked good. “You really like it?”

“Your own hole about what? What’s going on?” Maddie was a quieter version of Isabelle at that age and Isabelle want to help her out of it. She didn’t need to be quite so fiery as Isabelle, but somewhere in the middle was good. “Have you talked to Tasha about any of what I told you to talk to her about?” She doubted it. “It’s not your job,but you’re sweet to do so.”
“Um...well, I just get kind of...dark feeling sometimes. Usually I just spend a week in bed and then I’m fine,” Maddie said with a shrug and a dry chuckle. “I feel better now, it’s not a big deal. Nothing you have to worry about.” Conversations like the one they were having always made her instinctively tug on her sleeves, as if people would remember what was under them and not believe her when she said she was alright. “Sort of. Not everything. That’s kind of what I feel bad about..”

Tasha was relieved to be coming home from work - she’d had enough sad faces for the day, and just wanted to go home to her girlfriend and son. Pushing the door open to her apartment, she was pleasantly surprised to find Maddie standing there in a robe and towel over her head, and her soft lips made Tasha melt into the touch of her girlfriend.
“Hi, baby.” She smiled against her lips, pulling back from the kiss to set her things down on the counter and slide her jacket off. Vincent was watching TV on the couch, Alaska perched in his lap, sleeping. Tasha kissed the top of his head in greeting, turning back to her girlfriend. “It was…a day.” She laughed, making her way back over to the blonde. “How about you?”
Things were starting to feel alright again, and every kiss felt better. “A day?” she asked, pouting a little. Maddie couldn’t imagine having to hear all the things Tasha did, and she often forgot that the woman’s job was so taxing; no wonder she was exhausted at the end of the way, physically and emotionally.
“It was good. We went on a little adventure,” Maddie said, pressing her lips together to hold down a smile. “I did something, and I don’t want you to freak out, okay? If you hate it, blame Vin because he helped.” With a chuckle, she unwrapped the towel on her head, and out fell a head of wet, dark hair. “Spur of the moment.”

It was just Maddie and Vin in the apartment, spending the day inside while the waited for Tasha to come home. The boy was already excited to help make stir-fry, and it was half of all he could talk about. But after watching a couple episodes of drag rage, Maddie made a decision that the young one wholeheartedly supported and the two headed to the store.
A couple hours later, Maddie was stepping out of the shower, wrapping a towel around her hair. She’d heard Tasha come home when she was drying herself off, and she nervously bit her lip, sliding a robe on before walking out to see her girlfriend. “Hi there, pretty lady..” she grinned, kissing Tasha gently. “How was your day?”

“My kids have pretty good self restraint. I remember when my kids were his age, having as much energy as he does, waking up at 6 am on the weekends, before I do. Now, they both have several alarms on their phones just to get them up in the mornings.”
Maddie chuckled, “Thankfully, he likes to sleep in until at least nine. Which is fine, because I always wake up stupid early every morning anyway. We like to make breakfast for his mom when I stay over,” she smiled. “Ugh, the transition to being a teenager is rough, for everyone involved. I stressed my aunt out constantly.”
isabelle-maddox:
“Aw well then I definitely will. Anything for that kid, he’s such a good one. How are things going with his mom by the way? We haven’t talked about it since you called me in the middle of the night.” Isabelle kept an eye on the boys. She could practically feel Colt’s desire to get up and run as he pulled himself up, but immediately fell back down. “Oh you didn’t have to did that. Hes spoiled rotten this month.”
Maddie shrugged, “Things have been okay. I’ve kind of been in a hole of my own for the past couple weeks, and I feel kind of bad about it..” she said, tucking her hair behind her ear. In the distance, Vincent was holding Colton under his arms to help him toddle along, always encouraging him and trying to speed up the process of having someone to chase him. “Of course I did! It’s my job to spoil all the little ones in my life, obviously.”
harrygreene:
Harry nods knowingly, “I entirely agree,” he says, his eyes fixes on hers. “Well, it’s not your fault that it’s expensive. I just think it must be incredibly annoying,” he says with a frown, “Hopefully not many children are actually eating laundry soap, but, people are still quite backwards, even these days. I’m sure if more people were allowed to express themselves, our approaches to gender and sexuality would be quite different. Although, that’s a point from which I should shut up, as a straight cisgender man.”
“Oh, you haven’t seen the tide pod challenge on the internet? Everyone’s eating laundry soap,” Maddie snorted, shaking her head. “Honestly, as a straight cisgender person, you should never shut up. You don’t have to be a certain type of person to point out issues, and frankly it’s a bit refreshing.”
i’m good at stuff & you’re into stuff
isabelle-maddox:
“So he likes makeup then? Maybe he could do mine, I feel like I’ve barely had time to focus on it lately.” Isabelle laughed and watched Colt crawl as fast as he could to keep up with Vincent. “I got some stuff, but mostly I ended up just looking around and getting a lot of belated birthday presents for Colton.”
“He loves it, and honestly, he might cry if you ask him that. He’d be so into that. He’s actually really good at it, which I take advantage of sometimes,” Maddie smirked. She watched Vin be patient with Colt, constantly stopping to give him attention and never going too fast for him to catch up. “I have something for him! You can’t let me forget when we get back.”
lancaster-sheridan:
“My teenaged children did. I just came to chaperone them, because of the stupid mall curfew. Dammit, my kids just wanted to spend their Christmas money that has been burning a hole in their pockets. I just got coffee, because I needed it.”
“Oh wow. I always spent all my Christmas money, like, immediately.” Maddie smiled knowingly, “I’m gonna need coffee if this doesn’t tire this kid out,” she said, gesturing to Vincent who had already joined a little posse of children playing tag.
