Willow. The name echoed through his mind as he committed it to memory. âThe please is mine, Willow.â He raised a brow, watching her actions. âWhat brings you here today?âÂ
A perfectly manicured nail pointed towards the steaming beverage she was currently nursing. âThey make a damn good cup of coffee, I just canât deny it.â Laughing softly as she motioned towards the man, âAnd what about you?â
lipxhollowayâ:
Lip was exhausted, he worked long and late hours. He was taking care of his mom and more than ever being dragged into pack drama. He needed coffee and was seemingly in a world of his own when he could sense someone looking at him. âHello?â he asked, looking towards the other. âDo we know each other?â
Willow had to stifle a laugh as the man sat down. He was clearly frazzled, one didnât need to be a siren to see it, though his response was rather endearing. âNo we donât, Iâm sorry, I just so happened to be looking in your direction when you sat down.â She could sense his exhaustion but didnât want to pry. âAre you okay?â

Daryn shrugged his shoulders, sitting back and watching as he often did. âI am a gentleman, i do my best.â He smiled gently, tilting his head. âI donât believe we have met. I am Daryn. I am here often. Although I donât believe we have met officially.âÂ
Willowâs smile was warm as she took in the sight of the man. He had a kind face, a sweet smile and a relaxed demeanor. Not at all threatening. âWillowâ Swirling her spoon in her coffee, mixing the froth of the cappuccino into the hot milk to soften the surface before taking a sip, she thought of all the times theyâd passed each other. âNo I donât believe we have, itâs a pleasure to meet you.â

The light was fading fast, and the more shadows he took on, the more intimidating he knew he looked. Most people he sort of towered over, but the natural build heâd kept up over the years of hunting (and the years of running) had sort of left him a bit of an aggressive figure. Yet his emotions held much more weight to them than he liked to think, heavy on his features and deep-set in his eyes. Comparing it to her, so thin, so lithe, all wide eyes and soft features, in the oncoming moonlight it didnât help the case much either. Yet her words were strong, had the tang of attitude to it that actually got a huff out of him. Close to amusement, but not quite reaching the surface. Too many layers for that, too much armor to penetrate through. â Youâre no a bother at all, maâam, â Alexis assures her, a hand coming out, trying to ease up, to soften just a bit. â Free country. Donât let me stop you from your uh⊠â As quick as he had it, he lost it, out of practice with general small talk and niceties. â Nighttime stroll. â She could be out here for a million other reasons, or she might even live just on the other side of the lake where the prettier, more expensive lakehouses were. It only concerned him if it started screaming. â I just live here. â With that, he turns back to look at the lake, the lavender deepening into the violet with the coming evening. â Itâs really not safe for anyone to be out here after sundown. â Itâs as much as heâll give; he doesnât know who heâs talking to. Familiar, but only just enough that he knows her from town. Only in passing, just like everybody else. â The forest gets⊠Dark, at night. â Itâs more warning, more implication - I know what happens in those trees, and Iâve spent the last two years trying to avoid getting back into it. Try your best to do the same.
âMaâam?âÂ
Willow raised a brow, an amused expression crossing her features. The siren took half a step closer to the man, not wanting to scare him off, rather wanting to drink in his features more. Too cast in shadow where he stood. âYouâd be right, I rather enjoy this time of evening. Everything just feels so peaceful, donât you think?â A small smile tugged at her lips. She much preferred the quiet of the night.Â
âDonât you worry that handsome face of yours, Iâm well versed in the things that go bump in the night. Iâm rather adept at handling myself.â She shot him a wink, her smile getting wider. It wasnât the monsters in the forest that frightened her. It was the demon she left behind, the devil that haunted her nightmares. Following his gaze back to the lake, she was yet again taken aback by its beauty.Â
âHow long have you lived in Holloway?â She asked, keeping her gaze trained on the lake lest heâd rather not make small talk. She found herself somewhat intrigued by him, the emotions he was letting out making her more and more curious. It didnât help that he was doing the whole tall, dark and brooding bit so damn well. âIâve noticed you in passing, but never really had the chance to introduce myself. Iâm Willow.â

She had been busy sketching whilst enjoying a copious amount of coffee that she was no doubt regret later. That was if Vampires could feel the effects, could they? Was it just like the normal human amount wouldnât affect her and a lot more would eventually? Had she even gotten close to that? The questions ran through her mind continuously and she considered texting the vampire that had become her âmentorâ of sorts since stumbling upon her feeding on a jogger in Paris just a few months ago, but the older vampire had made it clear that her constant texts were nothing short of annoying and made some not so thinly veiled âthreatsâ to end her if she kept them on.Â
Lifting her head to take another sip of coffee, she was distracted from her sketches from the woman nearby her. Realising the woman had noticed her, she offered an apologetic smile, âSorry I donât mean to stare I just, I love your whole look. Iââ she sighed, realising that she was no better then a cis white man trying to hit on a woman, âI sound creepy, I work in fashion, you have just a look theyâd die for. Iâm not hitting on you, I promise.â
Willow couldnât help but laugh at the beautiful blonde talking to her. Taking absolutely no offense to her staring, or her words. âPlease, itâs okay, thatâs the kindest thing Iâve heard all year.â The fact that they were only 31 days into the year was entirely irrelevant. She was sweet, and it was a nice reprieve - meeting someone who wasnât so lost in their own world that they didnât notice her at all. The siren motioned to the waitress, requesting a refill for her new found friend, and a cappuccino for herself.Â
Willow had been living in Holloway for a year now, and hadnât really gelled with any of the locals. Mostly keeping her head down and away from any kind of spotlight, too afraid to grow roots and make this place a home. A fear that had started to ebb of late, slowly replaced with a need to feel like she belonged. Waving a hand over the other girls pad, she smiled as she asked; âWhat are you drawing?â

Daryn barely drank coffee. He had grown up without it and had never got the taste for it. But he now had the habit of sitting with one and watching the world pass by, a notebook open to take notes. He had been watching the room when he had noticed the Siren and when he had noticed someone go to sit down beside her. He dove in before the stranger had a chance to sit down, a coffee in his hand. He moved so swiftly hoping no one would notice. âIs this seat taken?â He asked politely.Â
The movement of a stranger caught her eye, until he was completely dismissed by another. He had familiar features, Willow had noticed him around the cafe on occasion though theyâd never spoken before. She had to bite back a smile as she watched the other man walk away, rather thankful for the interference if she were being honest. âNo, please, by all means.â A graceful hand waved over the empty space, inviting him to join her. âI appreciate you coming to my aid...â
OPEN STARTER:Â @hollowstarters LOCATION: Lavender Haze TIME: Late Afternoon/Early Evening
Willow wasnât one for hitting the town, generally avoiding any sort of social scenes. It had been a year since moving to Holloway and she was yet to settle in, make any kind of life for herself. Always too afraid her past would catch up, that sheâd have to take her go bag and run... again. Yet there was something so alluring about trying. She was so tired of being alone, of constantly looking over her shoulder. For most, the effort of sitting at the counter stool, sipping a coffee in public wasnât much of anything to care about - but for Willow, it was a big step.
The cappuccino was as thoroughly enjoyable as the atmosphere, especially this time of day. The majority of the town already home from work and focusing on their evening activities, it was a much more relaxed time. Not so many emotions to overwhelm the empathic side of her abilities. Most sirens relished in others feelings, but for Willow, it had just become exhausting.Â
She was just about to take her first sip when a movement beside her caught the sirenâs attention...

The lake at twilight is one of the prettier, more peaceful sights in Holloway. As it does above, the water turns a brilliant shade of purple during these hours, a washed-out lavender to reflect the sky, ripples turning it the blackness promised on the horizon. Heâd spent the majority of his day in town, running errands and shopping, his list only as long as it was because of his neglect of it in the last few weeks or so. Being a ânormalâ sort of human is still a bit odd to him, even after two years. It shows more when heâs interacting with other people. His reclusive nature has brought the stares, the whispers, the seeing him in the aisles of the local market and skipping over it entirely to go somewhere else. No one knew anything about him beyond his name and his face - he made sure of that when he settled in - but he was still treated like a monster. It was never his favorite part to play, but in the end, this was, in a way, simply his penance.
He wasnât expecting having to interact with people on the lake. When he hears the footsteps, thereâs no hesitation in his pseudo-greeting, clear and definitively him. â Shouldnât be out here. â It is, as most every time Alexis speaks, a warning. Not threatening, exactly, but telling of whatâs around these parts. He knows it all. Thatâs when he finally turns, looking over his shoulder. His eyes narrow. â Havenât I told you before ? â Heâs not old, at least not enough to start losing his eyesight, but he tries his best to not mingle with townsfolk as much as possible. Memorable faces are few and far-between for him, especially these days.
Willow often found herself at the lake. There was beauty in itâs peace, and solace in its solitude. She often found herself here late at night, loving the purple sky, the colours it reflected upon the earth around her. The way the deep hue lit up the surface of the lake and made her feel like beauty was not just in the eye of the beholder, but a purely tangible thing. Like she could reach out and touch it. Despite the glitz and glamour she had grown up with, she had never known a world as pure until moving to Holloway.
She spent most of her days away from the eyes of others. A part of her was still running, running from a past that haunted her nightmares - and part of her was hiding, lest anyone discovered who she truly was. An empath, a siren - who took on others emotions as much as if they were her own. It was moments like this, in the peace of the night that made her grateful for the solitude.
That was, until the deep cadence of another sounded up ahead. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust in the dark, recovering quickly from the shock. She was so used to the lake being void of any other souls at this time, Willow hadnât even noticed him there. She took no notice of his warning, not sensing any immediate danger from him.
It took a moment before he turned towards her, and she was able to make out his features in the low light of the moon. He was ruggishly handsome, but there was something in his eyes that made her heart ache for him. A void, or sadness, she wasnât sure. It wasnât her place to know. âIf the next words out of your mouth are that itâs too dangerous for a girl like me, you can save your breath.â Her words were firm, yet her tone was soft. The ghost of a smile tugging at her lips as she stepped closer towards him, so close now that she could see the moonlight reflect from his eyes. âOr is it that Iâm bothering you?â
