The girlies just got picked up and are on their way home 💕

Thank you to everyone who reblogged my original post asking for help and spreading the word! I love the rat community on tumblr and it was so comforting knowing people were so willing to help even after I haven’t been active on here in a while. I’m just happy that the girls now get to live a full and happy life with other ratties and be treated the way they deserve.

I gave away basically all of my rat supplies & cage to the rescue, which did make me a bit sad, but she is low on supplies and needed them and I knew that they would just sit in my closet. Again I would like to plug Wolfstep Hollow Rattery & Rescue who are located in Cincinnati and will be housing the girls! They have a facebook page as well, and on it is a link to their Amazon wishlist and Paypal link for donations. I just wanted to mention it because they are run by someone who loves rats and have been so helpful to me despite being full. If you are ever interested in donating to a small rat rescue, please consider them! I am planning on donating in the future and I figured the least I could do is pass their info along in case anyone was interested in adopting, rescuing or donating. 💕

Okay everyone, I finally named the girls…Cookie (hooded) and Muffin (grey)!

It has been a weird week, but the girls have been coming out of their shells a bit. Cookie is very explorative but I still have not managed to hold her. Muffin WAS shy, but now she has become pretty brave to come up to my hand and climb on it and nibble my fingers. They both have begun nibbling my fingertips and nails lol, when it gets a little too hard I make a squeak sound to try and let them know it “hurts” but they never do it hard! Cookie takes treats from my hand, and they both sort of accept pets but very cautiously lol.

The rescue is coming tomorrow ❤️ I’m feeling a bit sad, but this week has shown me that I just can’t give them what they need in terms of free roaming and getting them out for enrichment. (if you haven’t seen my previous posts, I rescued them from a snake situation with the intention to rehome) I love my dog Peaches so much but she has separation anxiety and will not let me out of her sight to play with them in a different room. The rescue said that Cookie & Muffin will most likely be permanent residents unless a perfect match happens to come up! This makes me happy because they have been through a lot and I know that they will be in the best hands.

I believe they are on a temporary hiatus as they are full, but I think they are still adopting out to vetted adopters. So, if you are in Ohio and looking to rescue or adopt, check them out! The owner has been SO amazing and the fact that they were willing to take in the girls despite being full really just proves how much they care about rats.

They are going to keep me updated on the girls, so I might still post updates here and there (I’m going to miss them) but yeah. I just figured I would update. 🥲

I need tips on how not to get too attached to these girlies 😭 because I’m starting to get sad about having to let them go lol. But the rescue and I have been communicating and making arrangements, so all will be okay! (also I did notice a bit of porphyrin on this one, I’m assuming that it is just “new home” allergies since there haven’t been any other noises or weird actions, but I’m keeping an eye on it)

And as always, if you’re in/around Ohio and want to add to an existing mischief please PM me! The rescue seems amazing but I would love to find a forever home.

A few pictures of the babies! I say babies because I haven’t seen rats this small since my first 5 boys were youngins lol, and when I rescued Shyguy and Goomba they were UNITS. So it’s been about 4 years!

The dark grey hooded one is so far the most curious and adventurous, coming up to the bars to investigate before running away. The light grey one has stayed in that igloo for the most part unless I’m quiet and they think I’ve left the room lol. They seem very sweet, just scared.

Just a reminder that I have not yet confirmed whether boys or girls, but if they are girls I am in need of an adopter in or around Ohio! I’m willing to travel. I will be checking later today if possible, though they are super skittish. I’m only leaning towards thinking they are girls because my boys were very obvious 😭 I will try to get pictures for confirmation, I’m just not sure how that will go lol. (for any confusion please refer to my previous post! I would keep them if I didn’t have a dog and had the finances to do so at this time - they are rescues from a feeding situation)

Rat Rescues or adopters in (or around) Central Ohio!! I need help!

I haven’t used this account in a while since I haven’t owned rats, but I will most likely be acquiring 2 adult male rats that would otherwise be used as live snake food next week. Someone I am acquainted with (not friends) is willing to give me 2 feeders that his snake “won’t eat”. I’m not in a place to own rats again, but I do still have my cage and would be able to temporarily quarantine them with me until I’m able to rehome them. I feel like I have no choice but to take them in knowing that they would be eaten otherwise (again, he feeds LIVE which I don’t want to happen to them).

I have contacted Rattie Tattie in Cincinnati and am awaiting a response (update: I am on a waitlist as they are full), but I wanted to reach out here as well in case they are over capacity or if anyone knows any other Ohio rescues or adopters that would be interested. I would only rehome them to an adopter if you could prove that you know how to take care of rats (pets only) and even better if you own/owned rats before. I would most likely charge a small rehoming fee to ensure they are going to someone who won’t just dump them but if you are adding to an existing mischief I would make that priority. I am willing to travel if needed, within reason! If I’m able to find a rescue, I will also donate my cage and supplies.

I will know more info about their temperaments and condition once I get them (next week or the week after…not quite sure when yet) but until then if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated! ❤️ I would keep them myself if I could but I am not in a place to own rats at the moment and have too many other animals in the house.

UPDATE:

I have the babies! My coworker surprised me by dropping them off at my work yesterday so I frantically ran them home and put them into the cage to adjust before returning to work.

My one issue: they might be GIRLS 🧍‍♂️ and if this is the case, I still am in need of an adopter. If they are boys, I have someone willing to take them in! I haven’t even tried to pick them up again because they’re so nervous (although one of them is more curious than the other and had been coming closer to me) but I will do so soon.

I wanted to mention the possibility of them being girls just in case anyone might have a mischief of girls that they would like to add 2 to! I wish I could confirm right now, but it’s been so long since I’ve had to socialize rats that I’m afraid of making them more scared.

I don’t know how to explain it...and who knows if this even makes sense...but I’ve been playing a ton of Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Sheldon gives me major Pippin energy 🤣 he was one of my starter villagers, and every time I interact with him or see him I’m like, PIPPINNN! If Pip was an AC character, that is who he would be. I can’t really explain but it is a fact. lmao

Merry & Pippin throwback! Back when I lived with my mom, she always kept our house pretty cool in the winter, so when I would greet my rats after work still wearing my scarf, Merry & Pip would often burrow up in it lol. But I mean all of the rats were usually happy to see me either way, whether it was cold or not! 😊 These two were my biggest shoulder buddies!❤️
