The sun is perfect and you woke this morning. You have enough language in your mouth to be understood. You have a name, and someone wants to call it. Five fingers on your hand and someone wants to hold it. If we just start there, every beautiful thing that has and will ever exist is possible. If we start there, everything, for a moment, is right in the world.

Have you ever thought about how much is available to you, to use and take in and enjoy, without needing to own them? Concerts, libraries, parks, a good joke, sunsets, the smell of freshly cut grass, soaking in the sun a lazy afternoon in August, or sharing a cup of coffee with someone you love on a still Sunday morning, watching the world wake up? And have you ever thought about the fact that memories, all your memories, are built on these thingsāthings you donāt need to own. They are like the universeās gift to us all, to enjoy. Like a present to celebrate you being here. How beautiful is that?

Tampon commercial, detergent commercial, maxi pad commercial, windex commercial - youād think all women do is clean and bleed.
Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl (via littlefingeress)
Isnāt it time to acknowledge the ugly side? Iāve grown quite weary of the spunky heroines, brave rape victims, soul-searching fashionistas that stock so many books. I particularly mourn the lack of female villains ā good, potent female villains. Not ill-tempered women who scheme about landing good men and better shoes (as if we had nothing more interesting to war over), not chilly WASP mothers (emotionally distant isnāt necessarily evil), not soapy vixens (merely bitchy doesnāt qualify either). Iām talking violent, wicked women. Scary women. Donāt tell me you donāt know some. The point is, women have spent so many years girl-powering ourselves ā to the point of almost parodic encouragement ā weāve left no room to acknowledge our dark side. Dark sides are important. They should be nurtured like nasty black orchids.

You grow up knowing you arenāt allowed to disappoint, youāre not even allowed to die.

I want to be as motivated and focused in university as Amy Dunne was framing her husband for her murder in Gone Girl
Some show love rarely and mostly in small quiet gestures; sharing an umbrella in the rain, leaving you the last slice of their pizza, throwing their arms around you when you are afraid. Love does not have to be flamboyant or loud to be present.

Aspire not to have more, but to be more.
