Life was a fucking mess. Literal chaos everywhere Derek turned and, if he was being honest with himself, it started back as a teenager. Paigeâs death had played a pivotal part of the shift. After she died, it had slowly started to unravel. The only good thing since had been Melanie. And heâd selfishy used her to hold himself together until the fire happened and he broke fully. Heâd tucked tail and run, gripping to Laura.Â

Mel had a whirlwind of a past couple of days. From starting another school year with her students to her ex showing up randomly after just disappearing one night. Both causing a mixture of emotions inside of her. She wasnât expecting to see him ever again; and yet here he was back where they had been all those years ago. As she sat contemplating everything with wine and any comfort food she could find, as well as the best romcom on Netflix. She was managing to let her worries fly away as she watched the screen contently, acting like she didnât know what was about to come, even though sheâd watched the film a thousand times. If someone was to see her that moment theyâd have probably called her sad or lonely which wasnât exactly far from the truth really. As she picked up her glass to press it against her lips once again she was stopped by a thud at the door. Immediately she froze. She wasnât expecting anyone. It was followed by nothing more but it wasnât silence. There was somebody out there. She placed down her glass and wrapped her cardigan around her body, making her way towards the door. Flicking the porch lights on as she approached it. Cracking open the door ever so slowly, a frown lacing her features as her eyes met Derek. What was he doing here? she didnât have much time to think before his emotions got the better of him, his eyes welling up and concern filled her features. Before she had time to speak he staggered forward slightly before dropping down to his knees and Mel instantly shot towards him. Was he hurt? he didnât physically look it. but she could feel the pain radiating off him. As he apologised to her she shook her head moving down onto her own knees she moved her hands to cup his face, caressing it softly with her thumb. Her eyes glazing over as they met his. ââItâs okay...ââ her words were a mere whisper. ââLets get you inside...and get you a drink.ââ her words were still soft as she guided him back to his feet, it proved very difficult but somehow she managed. After fighting with his swaying body she finally got him towards the couch pushing him down softly so he was comfortable. ââStay here.ââ her voice was still soft as she rushed off to fetch him some water and something cool for his head as he seemed to be sweating, which to her knowledge she thought was because of the alcohol. She placed the water down on the table as she returned and kneeled before him, patting his forehead with a cold cloth a couple of times. ââYouâre okay Derek....iâm hereââ those werent words that sheâd said in a very long time and yet she still meant every single one of them. ââIâm here.ââ she repeated her eyes meeting his trying to search for something to tell her what had happened that had caused him to find her once more.
