"Did you know," Sirius said, sliding a scrap of parchment toward Remus, "that in Ancient Runes, this specific symbol means 'The handsome man sitting across from you deserves a kiss'?"
Remus glanced at the parchment.
"That’s not a rune, Pads. That’s a doodle of yourself next to a baguette."
"It’s an interpretive dialect," Sirius insisted, leaning over the table until their foreheads touched. "Very rare. Only spoken by descendants of House Black when they’re feeling particularly neglected."
Remus felt the familiar heat rising in his cheeks. He reached out, not to push Sirius away, but to tuck a stray lock of black hair behind his ear. "And what does the baguette represent in this rare dialect?"
"The baguette is a metaphor for the crushing weight of my affection," Sirius whispered, his eyes dropping to Remus’s lips.
"Funny," Remus breathed, closing the small gap between them. "I thought you just liked bread."
"I like you more," Sirius mumble-kissed against him, completely ignoring the fact that Peter was currently trying to reach past them for the marmalade.
