Tips for UST Freshies
In my years of stay in UST, I think I can already suggest tips that can help the incoming freshmen of our beloved UST. These are:
Always bring your registration form. - Your registration form is the only proof of your matriculation in the university. Professors will ask you to present it to them. Produce at least three copies of your reg form because some professors ask for their own copy especially the PE profs. Please, never ever lose it. It will be so hard to get another one.
Never be late.- Even though some professors don't attend in the first day, make sure that you arrive at least ten minutes before your class starts. Some professors lock the doors 10 minutes before their class will start. Take it form me, it's true.
Be polite to everyone. - We old students, as some people may call it, hate stubborn freshmen. I think it's reasonable for us to feel that way. We've stayed in the university longer than you and we have every right to demand respect from you. You might bump into someone you don't know and get away without even saying sorry. You might not know that that person may be your prof. Be polite even to the security guards and maintenance staff.
Wear proper attire. - If you don't have your uniform yet, wear something decent. Shorts, sleeveless, slippers and other clothes that expose so much skin are not allowed inside the buildings. The guards might not allow you to enter. Don't even bother to argue about it.
UST Carpark isn't the only place where you can eat/buy food. - Dapitan and P.Noval have the best eateries in Manila. :)))) To be able to enjoy your stay more, try exploring karinderias that offer menus that suit your taste.
Join Organizations - Being in an org is fun. You'll get to meet people form other colleges and it will hone you learship skills. There will be a reqcruitment week where all university-wide orgs will have their booths on Plaza Mayor and will accept membership applications. Being in an org will take so much of your time. Try to balance your priorities. If your aiming to be a Dean's lister, I suggest that you should allot less time for org stuffs.
Bring index cards and yellow paper - Bring different sizes of index cards. If you can bring a bunch, your blockmates will love you. They might even elect you as the class president. :)))) Yellow paper is not much needed on your first day but it will be good if you have some.
Bring 1x1s and 2x2s - Though professors might instruct you to pass your index cards with photo on the next meeting, it's still better to have the photo in advance. It'll be less hassle for you.
Utilize the Library - Though the UST campus has many places where you can study quietly, the Library is the best place to do it. Our Library has numerous facilities for individual and group study.
Have the right Dorm/Condo - There so many good dorms around UST but you might end up in a dorm that's extremely far from your college building. Make sure that you dorm is just a 5-minute walk from your college building.
DO NOT use the elevator - CFAD and Arki students are exempted from this rule but only in their own building, Beato Angelico. Only professors can use the elevators. If you will insist on riding the elevator, you'll just get yourself humiliated.
Beware of the pa-cool people. - In your block, there will always be that loud person that everybody would like to talk to. This person will most likely be the class president and after a few months, all of you will realize that he is a bad example/person/president. Please don't be this person. Ugh.
If you don't know, ask. - Nothing will be more humiliating than acting like you know everything. If don't know the right directions around the campus, feel free to ask old students or security guards. :)))
Enjoy your stay - This is the most important tip I can give you. Never let anyone or anything make you uncomfortable in your stay. Remember to study hard.
Disclaimer: The tips I've posted might not be applicable to all the incoming freshmen. I hope these tips can help. Thanks.
