"Avatarian"
Two white guys retconning twenty years of using real Chinese script to use one they made up instead just reads a shade of racist to me
YES WTF??? The show borrowed so many elements from Chinese culture and art and tied it together by paying homage to Chinese culture by having Chinese characters who write in (real!) Chinese -- and then they scrapped all of that for a fake alien language.... now the universe is becoming a weird remix appropriation of Asia rather than this deep care and appreciation for Asian cultures. You used Asia to develop a storyline for yourself and then rewrote it as an exotic, alien culture that doesn't exist. It has merely taken all the "cool," "consumable" parts of Asia and chucked the rest. How is this different from the movie-that-does-not-exist using random squiggly lines in their title card (over the Chinese characters used in the show's title card)?
look how they massacred my boy

[Babel by R. F. Kuang MAJOR spoilers]
so i just finished reading and im like heartbroken. but i want to ask:
Before I got to the explanation, I thought Letty was fully intending to kill Victoire. Victoire, who defied Letty's entire perspective of the world, who struggled more than Letty could possibly (or refused to) comprehend.
But in the explanation, Letty says "I didn't" to mirror Robin's words when he killed Professor Lovell. In a heat of rage, she did intend to shoot Ramy, and then a moment later had to come to terms with what she had done. (Similar to Robin).
But I want to dive into Letty and Ramey's relationship. Letty's infatuation with Ramy is more than "he's a brown man and it was humiliating that he didn't love her back." She was obsessed with arguing with him at every turn, trying to make him feel wrong. She was obsessed with being more capable than everyone else because she is white, and she needed the one person in the group who fought with her the most to fall under her spell. She needed to quell him, because it would reemphasize the power dynamic between them two. So when he refused, when he showed no inkling of feelings towards her, she felt humiliated. It was the sum of her privilege, the way she was raised, the color of her skin, her family's wealth, her status, and her position as an English born person to feel the need to have some sort of control over her nonwhite friends. We see the same relationship with her and Victoire. And with Robin, she assumes he's too meek to ever fight back anyway. She needs that feeling of power over them, especially Remy, who fought with her the most, and when it is not given to her, it festers into a blind rage and she ultimately kills Ramy.
