All of a sudden two decades have passed and you still have not kissed anyone with tongue, or kissed anyone at all for that matter, or had a 3 AM conversation with someone who would rather look into your eyes for ten minutes straight than talk. You have never worn a loverās sweater or āforgottenā it at home in your bedroom just so you would have an excuse to see them again. You have never even stood face-to-face with someone who makes your hands shake so hard it feels like theyāre both having a separate anxiety attack. This causes you much guilt and self-blame and sadness but above all, an overwhelming curiosity. Are you really that ugly, that unwanted, that uninteresting, that boring, that no one, absolutely no one, has ever looked at you like the only thing on earth? The answer is no. The better answer is that someone out there, somewhere in the world, is āwondering what itās like to meet someone like you,ā and they have two decades worth of love stored in their veins like a shoot-āem-up drug, and theyāre just about ready to inject it into someone elseās bloodstream. All you have to do is roll up your sleeves and wait for it to happen. At times you felt so lonely you could stand at the edge of a cliff with nothing beneath you but air and grass and a long, long way down, and youād still feel emptier than that canyon itself. Maybe you even danced with yourself alone in your room a few times, arms outstretched around a ghost, pretending someone elseās hands were on your waist, someone elseās eyes boring into yours. Or maybe you fell temporarily in love with strangers on public transportation, fell in love with anybody who so much as accidentally brushed your hand on the way past. For you, falling in love with dozens of people a day was a coping mechanism for not having anyone to love you in return. But people are not eggs and falling in love with a dozen of them does not mean your shell will remain uncracked. One day youāre going to hit the point where youāre so desperate for human contact that youāre going to snap in half and all your love will bleed out like egg yolk. But someone out there is eating a bowl of Ramen noodles right now, or putting on slippers, or settling into bed. They are doing all the normal things that youāve done in your own life. They are just like you. They have cellulite and extra fat in all the wrong places and goals and fears and doubts and bad handwriting. The truth is that they are just like you, and being just like you, theyāre looking for a lover too. Theyāre what you might call a soulmate. They think theyāre all alone in feeling the way they do, but youāre really both two halves of a whole. And one day youāll meet them, bump into them on the street, and your two halves will be put together, and youāll make one.

I had plans with 3 different people today. And each person cancelled or was too busy making plans with other people to spend any time with me. Iām a fucking person too! Iām so tired of being taken for granted.
Look, Iām not tying to belittle anyone elseās experience, but I think we need to talk about what social anxiety really is. Itās not sometimes skipping out on your plans because you are tired of being around people and need a break or preferring reading all night to going to a party.
Social anxiety is sitting in class with a runny nose, because you are too scared of the judgement you think youāll receive by getting up to blow your nose in the middle of class. And then realizing how dumb you are being, but not being able to just fucking stand up and move to the tissues. To know that not a single person cares if you blow your nose, but be petrified that someone would judge you anyway for doing so.
Itās messing up every meeting that you have, because you are too scared of what people will think of you, potential rejection, or how they will judge you. So you remain silent, and then freak out that you are being weird, so your heart beats so fast that you canāt think, and respond with words that donāt make any sense. So you just end up declining every invitation, until you have ruined where you could be.
Itās calling my mom three times a day to run through all of the failed interactions that are repeating in my head, to make sure I am just overreacting. To spend all of my energy reminding myself that no one remembers that stupid thing I said in class when I couldnāt think straight, and that no one spends their time hating me for weird things that I said three weeks ago.
Itās being a 21 year-old college student who spends every weekend night alone, because I spend every moment trying to fade into the background and not stand up, until I have single-highhandedly erased any presence I thought that I once had.
Social anxiety is so debilitating, and takes up all of my energy to make it through a day, and it hurts, when I see people make light out of it, or when someone tells me to just try harder and relax. I spend all of my time trying to relax, and just breath, and this is where Iām at. Iām not sure what Iām trying to get to here, maybe Iāve just had too much whiskey tonight, but just remember what it is like for people with social anxiety, before just telling them to snap out of it. Because that helps nothing and no one.
you fool! it was all a ruse, i deceived you! iām a sham!
Why donāt people realize Iām hurt when Iām second choice. Pushing plans with me the second something better comes along really hurts me. Iām better than second choice, so why doesnāt anyone else agree
wait⦠if youĀ have social anxiety⦠and iĀ have social anxietyā¦
then whoās going to order the food?
Iām trash. Just absolute garbage
What is so wrong with me that no one ever wants to spend time together? I feel like Iām a fun person, Iām nice, and all around not completely horrible. So why am I always alone after my friends cancel our plans?
But how weird would it be if my anxiety wasnāt there yelling at me and reminding me why Iām dumb, stupid, weird, all the god damn time. Can you even imagine not having to replay every conversation in your head to criticize every conversation that you engage in? What would that honestly be like?
sometimes i want to pull my hair out because i want to see just ONE female character i can relate to in terms of their romantic/sex life
i want to see a girl in her mid twenties who has never been kissed
i want to see a girl who is confused because she has literally no experience
a girl that has panic attacks when she thinks of sex and cant stop thinking about what kissing is like while also being terrified of it
a girl who cant figure out her sexuality because sheās never gotten to try
a girl who self destructs because shes terrified of how bigger her baggage gets with age
iām sick of seeing woman in tv and movies who date and have sex and still have relationship hangups, not because that doesnt exist but because i cant relate to those women
i want to turn on the tv and see a 25 year old woman who has never been with anyone, was genuinely not looked at for a long time and has become terrified of attention, whoās anxiety cheats them out of dating, who greets every birthday with this feeling of dread in the pit of their stomach because theyāre getting older and older and it feels weirder and more wrong with every passing year
i know iām not the only woman like this, but with the way the media is, itās maybe the most alienating baggage i carry. everywhere i look, itās weird that this is my experience. i feel ashamed and i feel scared that i one day have to tell a person to their face that iām am adult who has never had a first kiss. its terrifying and consuming and confusing and awful. you start to believe it isnt meant for you - not just sex, or intimacy, but fucking love itself. because you dont turn on the tv and see people like you. āunlucky in loveā means slightly clumsy and loud on dates and fear of commitment. its a quirky girl who probably has had sex with multiple people and just ~cant figure it out~!!!!!
i want a girl who feels so alone because she literally always has been
thatās what i wanna see
You think I don't know that I worry more than I should? Please don't tell me to stop freaking out, or that I worry to much. Anything you make fun of me for, I promise I've yelled at myself for much worse.
For people with social anxiety, EVERY message they send feels like aĀ ārisky message,ā not just the ones with heavy emotional content. Every conversation feels like a chance to say something wrong and destroy a perfectly lovely friendship. Silence, while avoiding that problem, is also perilous because waiting too long before breaking the silence, increases the chance that the silence will be taken as a rejection.Ā
SOCIAL ANXIETY FUCKING SUCKS AND EVERYTHING IS MENACING TO ME.
Second semester begins tomorrow, and Iām scared. Everyone is abroad, and Iām here alone. Academically, Iām fine, but all I really want is a group of friends to remind me that I am wanted. My 21st birthday is Thursday, and do you know what Iāll be doing? Sitting alone in my apartment, with a sister trying to be with me only so I can buy her and her friends booze. I thought by now things would be different. But itās my fault that Iām here. No one, stopped me from making friends, if I wanted to, I could have tried harder. And now all I can do is cry about how different I thought college would be.
God fucking damn it. Look dad, just because your day sucked, you don't suddenly have the authority and right to make everyone around you feel like shit. Shame on you.
I wish I could glimpse where I'll be in 5 or 10 years. Just so I can know all of this will be ok. That I'll figure things out, I won't be this lonely, and I'll be happy.
Does anyone want to volunteer to run me over with their car before the semester begins? I would really appreciate it, guys.
