It’s not. Something I’ve considered but now that you mention it, I would be furious if I was zom-proof and died from some normal disease (or as normal as it gets in the middle of the zombie apocalypse)

Oooooh my god I hate this for all of us but I'm glad I'm not the only one, this has been the WORST STUDY ABROAD EVER!! like it's totally not fair to bring this up to everyone else because this is their home and they probably watched at least a few loved ones die but I miss home!!! I miss home so much and I miss my river and I miss my friends and I miss the birds and I miss getting doughnuts on Saturday!! people keep looking at me funny because I keep tearing up when I see House Sparrows around but they're....they're invasive in the US but they're home to me. they're the sound of the sunrise. they're the sound of the sunrise except the morning choir is so different here and missing so many voices...I'll probably never see or hear a blue jay or a cardinal ever again and it hurts so bad...

If it will make you feel better, Tony fancies singing little tunes every morning (and he’s shockingly good at it actually, his songs are part of my morning schedule) and like. I can ask him to go sing by your tent. Not in it, just generally toward that direction for true ambiance

Tony’s no replacement for a blue jay or cardinal, but there is something to be said about avoiding the void of grief by replacing it with something new

Uh, but in all honesty, I think about home a lot. I’m glad to be here at Abel township, of course! I really am. There’s just. a certain grief that comes with not recognizing your surroundings, being forcefully separated from family and home and everything you’re familiar with, and it’s. I don’t know, it’s rough to adjust to.

I used to have this one crazy plan to make the journey back, but I don’t think I have the mental fortitude to try haha

Hey I’m like… mostly recovered!

Besides, I spent weeks stuck in my tent. I just wanted to, you know, stretch my legs a little, and when I heard the Head of Runners talking about doing some supply runs for the sports bra sizing committee, I volunteered! Convinced Evan that it’d be good for my lungs to get some fresh air. I don’t know if that’s actually true or not, but it sounds right

I’m not properly running anyway (at least not when they’re watching on cams), and they sent another runner with me— Runner um, 6, I think. She’s supposed to be a sort of “body guard” so I’m pretty sure I qualify as a celeb right now

Please be careful and pace yourself if you’re going outside the walls as someone who’s not regularly a runner! I’ve heard they’ve already had three close calls from civilians not knowing their limits (no offense, I’m also a civilian). You know it’s bad when I’ve been called to help out the med tent folks, all I’ve got is a very expired CPR certification from about 6 years before Z-day

I’ve done three runs so far, I’m practically a full fledged runner already! Don’t worry.

Uh, I wish you luck in the med tent though! My tentmate, Tony, told me things were getting rough over there and some blokes are pulling extra long shifts. I’ve got a friend in the kitchens if you ever need an extra cuppa or whatever. Just ask for Laney

bestie you can't just claim the pjs they have to go through distribution when you get back from your run!! if you have enough other stuff to have been worth the run they'll probably let you keep it but don't smuggle it in please you'll get in trouble and I don't want you kicked out you make my shifts less boring

I had to chuck some supplies to get the zoms off my trail too, so I have practically nothing now! I’m gonna have to turn in the pjs and I’ll never see them again! I’m genuinely devastated :(((
