A Note from Us

          For our campus project, we chose to use the lens of Apollo Vs. Dionysus. We chose this lens because we thought it was a great way to incorporate both myths of human nature and how we experienced these two sides of human nature while going to events for our campus project.To show this we all went to lots of events, some representing Dionysus, the carnivalistic and eccentric side of humans these were the more fun events. As well as the more orderly, professional, or educationally focused events, representing Apollo. We choose this lens to show how Apollo and Dionysus coexist, and are constantly “wrestling” in our minds all the time, even here on Temple’s campus while we are attending student events, one cannot exist without the other. The events that we attended modeled after Dionysus are posted with a grape vine because he is often pictured holding a glass of wine, and the events we went to that were modeled after Apollo are posted with a lyre since he is usually pictured with a lyre in hand.

          We chose to present this in the form of a blog because of its easy accessibility, and it is a great way to show all of the pictures and videos we have from all of the events we attended, as well as showing everything we have to say about them. A blog is also something very current since in today’s generation everything and everyone is on social media. We were able to be modern and make all of our posts unique and decorate our blog in which ever way we wanted.

Temple University Snowboarding/Skiing Club By: Ashleigh Dzomba

Temple University snowboarding/skiing club is one of the best ways to meet new friends and get involved at Temple. The club is going to Vermont and Canada over Christmas break and goes to a trip every year to Colorado over spring break. There’s always multiple social parties as well. This is a great way for people to get involved with things they’re interested in through Temple! There are over 150 members going on the Canada trip alone. I love being involved in this club and can’t wait to meet so many new people! The club is completely student ran as well.

What’s the T - Temple University Media Club Meetings

“What’s the T” is a club containing mostly but isn’t restricted to Temple University Klein College students. It’s a web series where students star in, edit and produce videos containing all the top news and entertainment stories. This is a great way for Klein students to meet others students within the school and within their majors! This is a great club for any Klein student but especially anyone majoring in Journalism or Media Studies and Production. Students gain hand on experience being in this club. Meetings are every Wednesday, usually in the Student Center or in the Charles Library. You can go to one meeting to see if you like it and you might realize it’s something you’re passionate about! I definitely love being a part of this group and attending these meetings. It’s always eventful and exciting and it’s a great way to get involved on campus.

URBN Opportunities Information Session By: Ashleigh Dzomba

UBRN is a portfolio of global consumer brands comprised of Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Free People, NUULY and more. In early November, Julia Ostovsky, the URBN Special Programs Coordinator for College Space held an information session in the Career Center in Mitten Hall. Any students were welcomed to sign up to attend. Julia, a Temple graduate who once held an internship position through URBN, presented information about home office summer internships and discussed full-time opportunities as well! This was an amazing opportunity for ANY student. There are roles and opportunities for anyone studying almost any field. There are Public Relations roles, data and analytics opportunities and even hands-on, mechanical work for someone to pursue. This was a brief but very informational session and I would recommend students of any major to attend! URBN has informational sessions available about once per semester at Temple University.

Sex Trivia with the RAs of 1940 Residence Hall By: Ashleigh Dzomba

On October 2nd, 1940 RAs Olivia, Franki, and Ben hosted the first “Sex Trivia” in the fourth floor lounge of 1940 Residence Hall. This was open to all residents and was an extremely educational event containing lots of fun and interaction! A Kahoot was presented with over fifty residents filled with sex-ed questions that the everyday student may not be aware of! This is a great way to spark an important and sometimes life-changing conversation with students on a what shouldn’t be, a ‘taboo’ topic. In addition, various contraceptives were given away to people who answered questions correctly! This is an energetic, beneficial way to meet people within the residence hall and make new friends! I learned way more than I thought I would during this event and I’m so glad that I attended this with my roommate and suite mates.

Meet the Greeks Open House By: Maggie Dykan

          On November 13th, in the Student Center, Temple’s Panhellenic council held an open house for 2020 recruitment. This event was also for anyone interested in joining Greek life. You could go to this event from anytime between seven and ten p.m. Once I got there, each sorority had a table set up with their Greek letters and tons of sisters standing around waiting to talk to you, and answer any questions you may have had. This event helped me to meet some new people, and now have some familiar faces going into rush this spring. Here all the sisters talked to you about the sorority that they were in and what it was all about, including which philanthropies they are involved with. I am very happy that I went because I gained lots of knowledge on all of the sororities.

Greek De-Stress Night By: Maggie Dykan

          On Wednesday, October 23rd, Temple’s panhellenic council held a de-stressing night for anyone interested in joining Greek life or any current members here at school in the student center. Here you were able to enjoy some tea, doughnuts, play some games, and build your very own face mask all while meeting sorority members and other girls interested in joining one. I went to this with one of my friends and spoke with lots of girls in sororities who talked to me about the sorority that they belong to as well as the entire rushing process. This event was a great way to decompress in the middle of the week. This also calmed a lot of my nerves concerning rushing for a sorority, and got me a lot more excited. If anyone is thinking about joining Greek life I would suggest going to an event like this that the panhellenic council holds. It was so informative and fun.

1940 Grilled Cheese Sundays with Matt by: Ashleigh Dzomba

Looking to make friends? Do you want to get to know more people in your dorm building? As a freshman living in 1940 Residence Hall, ‘Grilled Cheese Sundays’ held by Resident Director Matt are a fantastic way to do so! Almost every Sunday evening in the 1940 lobby, Matt cooks up some free grilled cheese for residents to enjoy while they mingle with one another. I attended a few of these nights, and it ended up being a fun, easy way to meet my neighbors (and save a meal-swipe)! This is such an easy way to socialize considering students don’t even need to leave their building. Many RAs also attend these, so it is also a fun way to meet them and become comfortable with everyone!

Temple University Swinging Voices & Jazz Band Number 4 By: Natalie Voiro

If you enjoy listening to people sing as much as I do, then you should go check out Temple’s Swinging Voices & Jazz Band Number 4, especially if you like to indulge in some jazz music. I didn’t think I liked jazz music until I experienced this performance. It’s a mellow and cool genre of music. The Singing Voices had some powerful and astonishing voices, also accompanied by the jazz band, which added some more spice. I genuinely enjoyed myself while attending this performance. It also encouraged me to think about trying to join this singing group. I’ve always liked to sing but never really gained the confidence to take my abilities further.

Campus IBC Student Recreation Center Power Yoga Session By: Natalie Voiro

As the end of the semester came around, I started to become very stressed and overwhelmed. I’m assuming many other students feel the same as I do around the end of the semester because that’s when the school work begins to ramp up. I decided to attend a yoga session at the IBC Recreation Center on Temple’s campus. The music that was played, the different yoga positions that were involved, the atmosphere and environment of this yoga class were very relaxing and helpful. It soothed my stressful and overwhelmed state of mind. This session was free, which is also a plus! All you need is your student ID to get into the Rec Center and you need to show up 30 minutes early to reserve a spot in the session by receiving a ticket.

Intramural Basketball By: Maggie Dykan

          This winter I joined a low competition, co-ed, intramural basketball team. We played five games so far and won two of them, we are hoping to make it to the playoffs. This has been a great way for me to make new friends and continue to play a sport I love but without a huge commitment. Intramural is very laid back and some people on my team have never even played basketball prior to this. We don’t even have practices.  Anyone can join! It is a lot of fun, and is a great way to stay active while being social.

Temple’s Food Trucks By: Maggie Dykan

          One of the best and most unique parts of Temple’s campus is the fact that it is surrounded by food trucks with some of the most delicious food and the nicest people! One Saturday morning, some of my friends and I walked to get some great breakfast sandwiches and hung out by some of the food trucks on Norris street. We even decided to treat ourselves to some dessert when we were done with our breakfast sandwiches from the crepe truck. It was a super fun and flavorful time. All of these food trucks are accessible to anyone and if I were you I would definitely go grab a bite!

PRSSA Meetings By: Maggie Dykan

          Being a Public Relations major I wanted to get as involved as I could and use up all of the public relations resources that Temple offers me. Part of this included me joining me PRSSA, Temple’s Public Relations Student Society of America. In this club, we have general body meetings as well as smaller committee meetings. Upon joining you get to pick the committee of your choosing. There is a public relations committee (which I am on) , a fundraising committee, an advertising committee, etc. At the general body meetings we discuss things like certain PR related events that will be happening around campus, plan certain PRSSA events, as well as hearing from an occasional guest speaker who is in the field. In my committee meetings we have workshops learning lots of different PR skills and have lots of workshops on things such as writing press releases and pitching workshops. All of the meetings are held in the Student Center, and are only about 45 minutes long. PRSSA has been a great way for me to meet new friends while bettering my PR skills at the same time.

Foundations of Study Abroad Info Session By: Natalie Voiro

I don’t know about you, but “Travel to Italy” has been on my bucket list for a long time! I could check that off my bucket list, by taking the opportunity to study abroad! I attended the Foundations of Study Abroad Info Session to learn more about studying abroad. It’s one thing to say you want to travel around the world somewhere, but it’s another thing to know how to do so and how to finance that! With the help of this info session, I learned that there is various ways that you can earn scholarships to study abroad. A quote that I took away from this info session is that “There is money out there for you, you just have to find it!”. Also, I found out that you could possibly fulfill credits for your major, so it’s the best of both worlds! You get to experience new cultures, instead of staying in boring, old Philadelphia for a semester. You can even take it as a summer vacation during one of the summer study abroad sessions! There’s a place for you to partake in studying abroad!

Temple University Women’s Club Lacrosse By: Natalie Voiro

This year I transferred to Temple as a sophomore. I attended Virginia Commonwealth University my freshman year of college and played for their D1 lacrosse program. I didn’t want to completely stop playing lacrosse when I came to Temple so I decided to try out for the Women’s Club Lacrosse team here and I made the team! This was the perfect way to continue my lacrosse career and also meet new people! Since joining the team, I realized that club lacrosse is way more laid back than a division 1, 2, or 3 team. I found that I enjoyed playing at this level of lacrosse more than at a division 1 level. Club lacrosse isn’t as time consuming, so you have more free time to dedicate to school work and enjoy quality time with friends. Also, playing lacrosse at a higher and more competitive level can negatively effect a player mentally and physically. I have more energy, more confidence, and I don’t feel as much pressure playing for club lacrosse. Club lacrosse is a welcoming atmosphere. The team is coached by girls on the team and they make sure to play everyone fairly and equally. This team is one big group of friends who also spend time outside of lacrosse together. So if you’re ever feeling lost or alone or you just want to exercise and play a sport that you like to play, but you don’t want to or can’t play for any division 1 team here, then think about coming out for the Temple Club Lacrosse team and you’ll find a place there! I’m sure many other people have went through situations similar to mine so just know that Temple has more to offer to you! You can meet new people, make friends, memories, have fun, and play!

Temple Football Game By: Natalie Voiro

On Saturday, October 12th, our Temple fans, students, alumni, staff, family and friends came together for parents weekend to watch the Owls face the Memphis Tigers at Lincoln Financial Field. It’s unique and cool that our Temple Owls play where our City’s Philadelphia Eagles play. The atmosphere of The Linc hightens the excitement of the game. No matter who you are or what age, if you are a Temple football fan, then you are apart of the Owl family! It doesn’t matter if you know the person around you in the stands or not because they’ll be sure to turn to you and give you a high-five when the Owls make a good play or score a touchdown. We show our spirit and pride by wearing our school colors, cherry and white, all the while chanting one of our traditional Alma Maters “T for Temple U” to hype up all of our owls, whether you’re in the stands or on the field. As a first-year transfer student here at Temple University, this was a fun, exciting and new experience for me. The university I attended before did not have a football team so this was also my first time experiencing a college football game, specifically for my own school, which was cool! This game was a special event that I was able to share with my family on parents weekend and it made me feel proud and happy to be an owl!

Temple Football Tailgate By: Maggie Dykan

          On Saturday, September 14th, our Temple Owls faced off the the Maryland Terrapins and Temple students from everywhere as well as alumni hopped on the subway and headed down to Lincoln Financial Field to tailgate this big game! Any excuse to gather together and show our school pride Temple students will take, and tailgating football games is a perfect example of a super exciting Temple tradition. Everyone puts on a shirt with their cherry and white to show their school spirit. You can even host your very own tailgate with all of your friends and family.  As a freshman here at Temple, this was a really fun and easy way for me to socialize and meet new people and make friends.
