Day Four Sentence
“Just wait until you tell her about your gender,” Gillian added.
Day Three Sentence
“You told me Grandpa Jake always said the kids are alright.”
The two of them got shushed; their biology class was screening Ferngully. That didn’t stop Alx from finishing their thought.
“We’re kids. We’re alright.”
Day Two* Sentence
After several years of being called a cop, then two decades of being the only person at local shows who could ask for a senior discount at the movies, Grandpa became more than an honorific. It became a moniker.
Missed yesterday's sentence, but with good reason:
Day One's Sentence

“Palm trees have to go.”
Welcome to Living Out My Sentence, a blog dedicated to the snail's-pace life of writing in progress!
Every day (or almost every day), I will post a single sentence or two from the very first draft of my novel. Some might be the sentence I think sounds the best. Some might be a single word. Others might be the one I find to be the funniest. Maybe the one I post sucks, but it doesn't suck as much as the others.
All of it is part of the process, and it's not always gonna be something profound or amazing. But there's something joyful in that kind of frustration. A little about me: I'm a trans nonbinary writer (they/she) with an MFA in Fiction from the University of New Hampshire. My work has been found with Hobart After Dark, Cotton Xenomorph, The Wondrous Real Magazine, Jellyfish Review, Ligeia Magazine, and others. My master's thesis was my first novel manuscript, and I'm still working to find a home for it, preferably with a small press. My work tends to fit into speculative fiction, with some of that work featuring werewolves in love, ghosts, Medusa, bottomless pits in the middle of Ellensburg Washington, incubi trying to help a helpless kid get with his crush, and more.
Join me, will ya?
