Nursing Week 11

We are almost done the semester! Thanksgiving is coming up, which starts finals week when we get back. I had my last med surg clinical and my last clinical for maternity at Penn this week as well. It is bittersweet to think that my clinicals are done for this semester! I loved being at Penn, it is a teaching hospital, so my clinical group was able to do a lot, and see a lot of births. I got to administer baby meds, put in catheters, and go to the roof to see the helipad. It was a phenomenal first in-person clinical and I have learned so much! I really liked being in the intensive care nursery, and enjoyed my time with the nurses there as well. Good luck on finals everyone!!

nursing week 8

We are almost at Fall Break! I am very excited to go home and see my family! This week in clinical, I got to see a vaginal birth and administer medications to the baby. I also had the opportunity to footprint the baby and the moms index finger. Before the birth occurred, I straight cathed the mother, which was a first for me. I was very nervous but my clinical  professor walked me through it. It was awesome to be apart of the family’s special day and see how excited the father of the baby was.

nursing week 6!

These past few weeks have flown by! It is now October, and I’ve had a test in every class! It is great to have a little break for right now because three tests in a row is never fun. Cheer is going well and we are progressing well as a team, preparing for nationals. My roommates and I decorated our house for Halloween and we have attended clinical twice so far. I saw a C-Section birth and held some babies in the intensive care nursery. I have learned a lot and am so excited for what’s next!

Second Week

Second week:

As I start my second week of classes and junior year, it is becoming easier to get work done and prioritize what needs to be done when. I make lists to stay organized and know when due dates are nearing. Cheerleading is gearing up for football season, which is exciting since last years season did not occur. I tried the new food places on campus, Freshens for a quick flatbread and then Tenders Lovin’ Chicken for a chicken sandwich. It was good to try new food and have new options on campus for us. Clinical starts this week as well, even though it is virtual for week one, I still hope to connect with my faculty member and friends in my class to have a great semester!

Nursing Week One!

In this first week of my junior year, there’s been a lot of new events happening.  I have learned a lot, bought books, and attended classes in person for the first time in awhile since the COVID pandemic. It is very exciting to start clinicals this semester for med surg and maternity. I was placed at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for one clinical, while one clinical is still online due to the ongoing variant of the COVID pandemic. I am on the cheerleading team and we are attending camp this weekend which is an exciting start to our season. Although it comes with a demanding schedule, it is a great outlet to relieve stress and stay active. I am also an executive board member for Widener University’s Student Nurses Association and we have a couple large events coming up! So far, the first week of class was very eventful and busy!
