To all the Beautiful People
Yesterday, while perusing Cory Booker's Facebook of all things, I stumbled upon a quote that completely turned my day around.
"Those who love you are not fooled my mistakes you have made or dark images you hold about yourself. They remember your beauty when you feel ugly; your wholeness when you are broken; your innocence when you feel guilty; and your purpose when you are confused."
On Friday, a colleague told me that I was "a beautiful person." It was a compliment, but it seemed strange. Did I believe that? I've been struggling with depression for some time now. The hardest things that I've been working to learn are self love and self compassion. Most of the time, I don't believe my colleague.
The quote I found has made me re-think. How curious that others can help us appreciate ourselves! The same colleague also told me that sharing ourselves with others is one of the blessings in this world. How incredible!
I want to share myself with others. I appreciate the blessings of others sharing themselves with me. There are many beautiful people in this world, and sometimes it just takes a little sharing to realize that.

The burden of proof is on women and gay people and nonwhite Americans to justify their lives, to explain to those who have never felt this sort of powerlessness or discrimination that it’s very much real.

Taking Root
I'm delinquent! But enjoy:
So far away, he's clutched my intangible goal - Made it real as breathing in and out. When love is returned it can hold you places, Root you in deeply as it gives you wings to fly free. Yesterday I felt the wall erect between here and home, As I basked in my newest security; inhale, exhale deeply. Change rattles even the strongest of hearts as menacingly As a storm shakes the branches of the Redwoods. Have I fallen? Or will the years grow around me? I believed I was planting seeds to keep me grounded in this life, Perhaps I've dug a hole from which I cannot spring free - Warm and safe but blinded, tunnel-visioned, to the beyond.
