Bona Dea Music & Flashclash - video shoot

So, my label, Bona Dea Music is expanding once again!  I'm happy to report that I am now working with a band that I have had my eye on for a while, personally, professionally and creatively; Flashclash.  Tomorrow they are shooting a video at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit in their rehearsal space 'the telebunker' all day.  They have invited a bunch of fans, friends and fellow creatives to join in the fun, and you know that Detroit has a lot of crazy creative people all working together.  The media has reported that the artistic community of Detroit will be the group that reinvents the city, and I couldn't agree more. We are seeing great creative projects here everyday.  The next step? The world is going to discover what's going on in Detroit and why artists are moving here by the busloads.

I like Flashclash for many reasons, they sound very fresh to me. Also, we share a mutual interest in exciting electronic, pop, dance music and using visual projections created by the artist during concert performances. We like to entertain and we like to surprise!  We also share a love of science. Music and science! You will be seeing a lot more from this band with their new release that is coming out soon on Bona Dea Music.

We set up and took some photos really fast, not letting our brains over think things.  We just let the creativity flow -

A Change Of Scenery

Sometimes I just get the itch to change the scenery.  I like to change my surroundings as much as possible to keep my brain sharp.  So, I hopped on a plane to Arizona with the idea that the best place to take a friend for his birthday was the Grand Canyon.

Getting out of town at the drop of a hat keeps my feeling creative.  I can't work the same way everyday. Often the internet connection is slow and I have to just shut off my computer for a few days.  Or I left my charger and I let my phone die, pushing back the panic that I will miss something, or people will be upset if I they can't reach me.  All the silly thoughts in my head become obvious.  The world will survive if I slip away and am unreachable, I laugh to myself.

Getting ready to launch the new CD.

Well, it has been three years in the making but the release date is coming up within a month now.  We are just finishing up the last mix, which has been a bouncy number called The Great Escape, which we ended up playing with so much, and having so much fun, that at times it seemed as though we lost our way.

The title of the CD is still up for debate but seems to keep coming back to the idea of being in a hurricane, which is what the last three years have felt like; the world whirling around me, while I stand calmly in the middle. There are elements of earth, water, fire and sky in this music as well.  And of course; love.  The greatest mystery of all, love has so many different meanings, many of which are explored here. There is love that leaves you feeling lost, and love that you swear is the only true reality. Also love and regret, love and giving up ones life for someone else, and love that makes you feel so joyously alive.  

The photos for the project have come about in a surprising way. I simply rely on friends to pick up their cameras and start shooting.  This has happened after intense talks about art, music, and life, which lead to the action, and the clicking away of a shutter.  When we look at the photos we are all surprised. This has been the fun part of sharing the creative spirit with each other.   Music inspires art, art in turn inspires the music, books get me thinking, and travels loosens me up to the point where I think that anything is possible.  

I hope you enjoy the new music - it has been a long and thoughtful time coming.
